FROM THE PRINCIPAL A WARM WELCOME TO JIN CHANG This week we are really pleased to welcome nine students and their teacher, Miss Li, from our sister school, the Jin Chang Foreign Language Experimental School, Suzhou. The group left China on Thursday, stopped off in Sydney for some tourist highlights and are now experiencing a school week here at Serpell. Thank you to the generous families who are home staying the students. Later in September, we will have a return group travelling to Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Suzhou for the return experience. On the 1st of August, our Serpell boys’ soccer team played against Templestowe Valley Primary in the Manningham Divisional Final. This followed their recent District Final win against Templestowe Park 2-1. After full time and extra time, the score was still levelled at 0-0. It came down to penalties, where our boys demonstrated great skill and composure to win 4-3. The boys are now scheduled to play in the Regional Finals on the 15 th of August at Mirrabooka Reserve, Blackburn South. Congratulations to all the boys involved for their effort to date, and we wish the team all the best in the Regional Finals. Kris Sais – Coach

DIARY Mixed Teeball Divisional Finals Well done to our boy’s teeball team, who recently defeated Templestowe Vally PS to win the Manningham Division final 28-1. PARENT’S ASSOCIATION NEWS All your fundraising efforts are much appreciated and Juvan, our resident whiz-bang number cruncher (aka “Treasurer”), informed the committee last week that we are currently on track to reach our financial goals to date. Yay to us all!!! Fundraising is a crucial function of the PA, but organising and running community events for the benefit of the parents/carers and kids of our school is just as vital. One such event coming is the Father’s Day breakfast. It’s a great opportunity for the males of the household to mingle and is not to be missed, especially as the kids love it so much! We can only run such events with the help of a team of amazing volunteers so, please lend a hand if you can. Finally, Serpell is participating in the Woolworth’s ‘Earn and Learn’ program and Rebel Sport’s Rewards Program. Please see below for more details, and happy shopping! Yvette Kwei [email protected] WOOLWORTHS PROGRAM

‘EARN

&

LEARN’

We are excited to be participating in the Woolworths ‘Earn & Learn’ program once again. During previous years, we were able to purchase some great educational resources for the kids through our involvement in this program. Collect your stickers at Woolworths, and for every $10 you spend you’ll receive a sticker. Your children can then place them on the special sticker sheet (provided by Woolworths or obtained from the office). Once completed, bring it to school, or you drop them into the Woolworths collection box at the Pines (our school emblem will be hard to miss!). The more stickers we collect, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including Maths and English resources, Art &Craft materials and much more! So please keep those stickers coming in!

FATHER'S DAY IS COMING UP! This year Father's Day breakfast is on Friday, 1st September. More details to come, but in the meantime, if you’d like to help with the set up the day before (Thursday after school), or on the day itself, please contact Lillian [email protected] or 0421 212 323. A Working with Children Check (WWC) is required if helping on the day. If you need to, please apply for WWC at: www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au.
