Aviator User Guide i

Introduction Purpose

Introduction Jeppesen Aviator manages interaction between co-operating Electronic Flight Bag applications FliteDeck Pro (FD Pro), Electronic Flight Folder (EFF), Electronic Document Browser (EDB), and Onboard Performance Tool (OPT). Aviator consists of a dashboard and a data store. The dashboard displays flight-related data and provides access to the installed applications. The data store houses the information that the applications share.

Purpose This user guide describes system requirements, support options, and operational information for Aviator, version 1.1. This guide is designed for pilots and support specialists who currently use or support Aviator. NOTE: The Aviator framework provides a customizable, SDK- driven architecture.

The applications and functionality described in this document may differ from your experience.

Introduction About the Aviator Central Data Store (CDS)

About the Aviator Central Data Store (CDS) The Aviator Central Data Store (CDS) is the central repository for data shared between the installed EFB applications. Each EFB application communicates with the CDS through a plug-in to send and receive information to share with the dashboard and the other applications.

Introduction About the Aviator Central Data Store (CDS)

About Shared Data The data reflected in the Aviator dashboard depends on the applications that you have installed. Table 1 describes the functions that each application provides. TABLE 1: Data shared between Aviator applications

FliteDeck Pro

Aviator links to FliteDeck Pro to display origin, enroute, and destination charts. NOTE: FliteDeck Pro can provide a limited flight plan if you do not have Electronic Flight Folder installed. For more information about the data that FliteDeck Pro sends to Aviator, see Interacting With FliteDeck Pro on page 31.

Deployment and Upgrade Considerations Aviator supports a commercial aviation business model and is released through available Windows distribution models. Only one version of the app can be downloaded to the Windows device at one time. When you upgrade from previous versions of Aviator, saved flights and any userdefined waypoints that are part of the route are preserved. The term upgrade refers to the act of installing a more recent version over a previous version without first uninstalling the previous version.

Introduction Connectivity Considerations

Connectivity Considerations Aviator requires a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular Internet connection to download data updates. The time necessary to download and perform updates depends on the speed of the connection and the size of the data coverage area.
