Students can receive 2 to 4 high school credits based on scores on STAMP, an evaluation of students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking levels in Spanish. Prerequisites: Participation in Spanish immersion program Course description: Students will read texts and watch films from a variety of genres. Projects will include speaking and writing activities so that students are progressing in speaking, listening, reading and writing domains. Prepare and take STAMP (evaluation of Spanish language) April 11 to June 7 The texts and movies will be announced after spring break. Capstone: paper and presentation District adopted materials: Santillana: 8th grade Spanish Language Arts Supplemental resources: Sendas anthology and a selection of movies in Spanish. Differentiation/ accessibility strategies and support (TAG, ELL, SpEd, other): Students will have a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their learning. Exams 9/18/2015
and projects will include several options for completing them successfully and generally include tasks for advanced students to extend their learning. Students will regularly work in groups so that tasks can be completed based on individual strengths. Final proficiencies: Student will meet grade level expectations in the reading, writing, speaking and listening domains as measured by STAMP. Student will read and comprehend grade-level narratives and informational texts. Essential skills to be taught and assessed: Reading and comprehension Write clearly and accurately Listen actively and speak clearly Think critically Personal management and teamwork Use technology Global Literacy Assessment/evaluation/grading policy: Students will demonstrate their understanding of the learning material through daily work, projects and examinations. Grades will be assigned on an A-F scale and will depend on daily work (25%), projects (25%), exams (25%) and participation (25%). Behavioral expectations: Students are expected to follow classroom rules and work cooperatively with their classmates. Persistent failures to comply with the established behavioral expectations will be documented and result in a consequence that may include a teacher-student conference, an incident report sent to the office and/or communication with parents.
