Sales and Inventory Reporting Sales Reporting The EDItX Sales Report format is intended to be used by a retailer, distributor or other intermediary, or by an agent reporting on their behalf, to report sales to a publisher or content owner. Such sales reports are the basis on which payments are made to the publisher, either by the seller or, if the seller is a branch of a larger organization that purchases centrally, by the central "buyer". The format was originally developed for use in the ebook supply chain in North America, but minor adaptations have made it suitable for use internationally in both digital and non-digital book product supply chains. This EDItX format allows ebook sales reports to be sent from distributors or other vendors to the publisher or content owner as standard XML messages, to be used as the basis for payments to the publisher. Version 1.1 of the Sales Report format is suitable for both sales and tax reporting, and has been developed in close collaboration with the Sales Reporting Working Group of BISG’s Supply Chain EDI Committee. BISG is simultaneously publishing XML and ‘flat file’ sales report and sales tax report formats to meet North American book trade requirements. The BISG XML formats are fully compatible subsets of the corresponding EDItX format. The BISG ‘flat file’ formats are consistent with the corresponding BISG XML formats. The differences between the EDItX version and BISG subset of the message format relate to the maintenance (in the EDItX version) of full backwards compatibility with Version 1.0. This includes retention of some data elements that may be required for trading outside North America, but which are omitted from the BISG subset. The BISG subsets of the EDItX format can be found here.
Inventory Reporting The EDItX Inventory Report format is intended to be used by a retailer, distributor or other intermediary managing inventory (on consignment or otherwise) on behalf of the publisher or content owner, or by an agent reporting on their behalf, to report inventory levels to the publisher. Inventory reports may be used to report inventory levels and movements in those markets where various forms of inventory management are practised. The format has been derived from the EDItX Sales Report format 1.0. It is intended that the format be implemented in digital (on a physical carrier such as a CD, or ‘online’ if the seller has been allocated a finite number of licenses to sell), non-digital or mixed book product supply chains, depending upon local market requirements.
