Seasonal Weather in Western North Carolina The weather across the Cherokee County region can be quite varied, so this page should give you an idea of what to expect. The mountains get much cooler at night and are more prone to summer storms in the afternoon.

Summer: June 15 – September 15 Summer turns the bold beauty of the rugged mountains to emerald green. Nighttime temperatures range from 55 to 65 degrees, with daytime temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 degrees in the higher elevations. Temperatures can be in the 90s in the valleys. Afternoon thundershowers are common.
Fall: September 15 – December 15 Fall announces the arrival of the leaf season. A collage of brilliant colors, painting the mountains with red and gold, peak in mid-to late October. Night time temperatures range from 30 to 40 degrees in higher elevations, with possibility of 20 to 30 degrees from November 15th through December 15th. Snow is likely in higher elevations (4000 feet or higher) during this period. Daytime temperatures range from 60 to 70 degrees during late September and 30 to 40 degrees in early December.
Winter: December 15 – March 15 Winter brings the warmth of friends gathering around a cozy fire. Weather conditions can be very severe. Temperatures at night may range from 0 to 20 degrees especially during January and February. March is very unpredictable; it could get quite cold during the first two weeks. Daytime temperatures throughout this period usually range from 20 to 35 degrees. However, temperatures may reach the 50’s. Snow is common throughout this period.
