Meepo: Less Micro than you think

Nakula

This guide is for those of you out there too afraid to try meepo for his infamous need for "perfect micro skills". after observing the hero i could see that what appeared to me complex micro was simply mechanically memorized combinations. and not even difficult combinations at that! in this guide ill touch upon all the skills you need to be a meepo player. Meepo plays like almost no other hero so be warned, he does take practice

Outline

Nakula 18

This guide is meant to serve as a compressed version of all your meepo needs. The aim is to make meepo seem as simple to use as possible, because i truly believe his skill requirement is massively overrated. His skill ceiling however is most definitely one of the higher in the game; this is something everyone can agree on.

Laning Meepo works best in the safe lane with a babysitter/support jungle puller. He can be played mid if your lineup doesnt have better gankers to take up the job, because hitting level 6 fast for him really kick starts things.

While laning you want to play quite passive. Look for last hits, try to keep creep equilibrium at a safe place, and most of all DONT DIE. A nice trick for last hitting is to help wack a few creeps health low. When 2 or more creeps are at about 20% health remaining, poof near them to get 2+ last hits at once. Dont be afraid to use poof for last hits, sometimes its just the only way In my build i suggest getting Poof first and Earthbind second, but this is really player choice. Poof first if you want to immediately get started on double last hitting, and Earthbind if you think you want to be more defensive or want to go for first blood.

Outline Ability and Item Build Laning Level 6

TL;DR: Play it safe. Hit lvl 6 ASAP. Dont die

Lvl 11 + Aghanims Scepter Beyond

Level 6 Now from here on im going to give my personal suggestion for control group binding. I believe this is the simplest way to play meepo.

Tactics

Once you skill Divided We Stand you will have 2 Meepos. Hurray! Now, if you havnt already, bind your first meepo to 1. Select your new meepo and bind him to 2. Now select both meepos and bind them to 3. From the rest of the game on you will only be using these 3 control groups (plus maybe F1-F5 keys only if you feel like it). From here on out i will refer to meepos by their control groups. take 1 and make him go straight for the easy camp. allow 2 to continue laning. why does 1 jungle and not 2? cause 1 has a stout shield and a sages mask, while 2 only has boots. 1 is more suited for jungling. continue wacking creeps low and poofing for multiple last hits in lane with 2, while at the same time soloing easy and medium camps with 1 and healing with tranquils when either meepos are low. If your feeling extra micro'y try to remember to stack the big camp with 1 every chance you get. If a meepo gets too low to stay on the field, send him back to fountain, but always try to keep a meepo somewhere getting exp even if its just easy camp jungling. When meepo is healed poof him back onto the battlefield and continue the above steps TL;DR: primary meepo cntrl grp 1. 2nd meepo grp 2. both grp 3. jungle 1. lane 2.

Lvl 11 + Aghanims Scepter By now you should be soaking up lots of Exp and getting near lvl 11. When you hit 11 take new meepo and add him to group 2, then select all meepos and add to group 3. not take 2 and jungle with them. while laning with 1. continue farming until you get your Aghanims Scepter. Once you get your Scepter add the new meepo to 2, and all to 3. continue jungling with 2 group while now ROAMING with 1. your job now is essentially to find kills. remember, even though you are 4, you cant solo their team. Find heroes that are alone, or setup ganks with team mates. The combo for ganking is as follows with 1 selected press Q and earthbind the enemy, now right click the enemy. press 2 and spam tab followed by W over and over (3 times to be exact, but i know how new players are). now press 3 and right click the enemy. when he starts to move press tab then Q on him. rinse repeat. Now here is where the small bit of micro comes into play. Many times while you are 4-5 meepo surrounding a guy, one will start to get hurt by whatever means. He is the focused meepo. BEFORE the focused meepo gets below half health simply dont panick, select the meepo either by portrait or model, and run him away as far as u can. usually i click as far as possible in my current screens view, then i click the fountain on the minimap. your camera doesnt even need to move in theory. Now while the focused meepo is running away, drag a box around all your other meepos and first right click the chaser of the focused meepo, then calmly Earthbind him, Tab, Earthbind, Tab Earthbind. etc. Once your meepos are nicely surrounding the pursuer and youve just launched yet another earthbind, SPAM that Tab W Tab W and blow him up. TL;DR: Primary meepo cntrl grp 1. All others 2. All together 3. Lane/Jungle till Aghs. after scepter continue jungle with 2, while roaming with 1. When enemy is spotted with roaming meepo Refer to the Basic Meepo Ganking tactic in the tactics section

Beyond Hopefull by now you havnt fed too much and have an Aghs Scepter, and a Mek or blink dagger depending on your skill level. From here on out you are essentially a big fat carry. Before we were ganking/jungling with our meepos. In later game you will be more so pushing/ganking. With your cntrl group 2 meepos push lanes and farm, and build towards your Heart of Tarrasque. Also you can solo Roshan EASY by now, so keep that in mind. Theres not much more to add here. Try to utilize all the tactics in the tactics section you can. Keep roaming with 1 while 2 does the dirty work of pushing/jungling. Thats about that. TL;DR: Win the game

Tactics Here I will outline some of the basic tactics all meepo players need to know. First ill intro by what your hand position for every single tactic should be. Ring finger should be on tab, Middle finger on Q, and Pointer finger on W. Never forget this finger alignment, its the first unspoken step of every single tactic Basic Ganking Tactic: This way already described in greater detail in the Lvl 11 section of the walkthrough if one might be interested. While your control group 2 of 2-4 meepos is jungling you will have your 1 meepo be roaming a lot. When your 1 meepo spots an enemy this is what you do. 1: press 1 (select primary meepo) 2: Earthbind target, then right click attack target 3: press 2 (select all other meepos) 4: spam w,click, tab,w,click, tab,w,click, tab,w,click (easy) 5: press 3 (select all meepos) 6: right click enemy 7: Poof with primary meepo (he hasnt poofed yet) 8: When target starts to move press tab, Earthbind, right click enemy 9: when poofs are off cooldown and youve just landed another earthbind, tab cycle poof spam 10: repeat from step 8 until dead I promise its less complicated than it looks, and when you break it down and practice it on bots a few times, it becomes muscle memory faster than it takes to learn guitar chords for the first time Walk Poofing: Walk poofing is when one of your meepos is walking next to an enemy while other meepos are lagging behind. In most cases during this scenario you would just make the meepo nearest cast earthbind. But what if that meepo is out of mana, or has the mana to earthbind but theres no meepos close enough to follow up? Its easiest done (imho) all within the confines of control group 3 (all meepos selected). best of all its honestly very easy 1: Oh no hes getting away and for whatever reason i cant earthbind! 2: press 3 3: chase next to or in front of the enemy (dont need to attack really) 4: proceed to cycle at a leasurely pace w click, tab, w click, tab. etc 5: use you eyes, if you see your selected on the meepo closest to enemy, skip his poof, tab to next 6: keep right clicking maniacally to chase even during your tab w cycling. it doesn't interrupt a thing 7: now you have all meepos on top of the enemy again. 8: tab cycle earthbind right click at a casual pace Run away: Many times while your group of angry Geomancers are pounding away at a target, one will start to get focused. Before he becomes the weak link in your chain of destruction, do this. 1: select focused meepo before he gets below half health 2: right click as far away as u can within your current screen view towards fountain 3: right click fountain on minimap 4: drag box around remaining meepos 5: tab cycle earthbind pursuer of injured meepo 6: beat him to death or blow him up with Poofs Note: this is practically speaking the only micro you have to do with meepo. everything else hotkey related (such as the basic ganking tactic) is known as macroing. Macroing is easier than microing for most people because it is essentially a mechanical memorizing of buttons. Teleport Gank: This is best done with Boots of Travel, but can be done just as well with a TP scroll if the enemy is attacking your tower. The aim is to travel all you meepos to you teleported spot at the same time, and proceeding to wreck house. 1: press 1 2: tp to creep or tower 3: press 2 4: wait until the tp has about 1 more second of chanelling time 5: spam w click, tab at teleport location 6: press 3 7: before poofs arrive or not, earthbind with your first meepo selected 8: right click enemy 9: tab cycle a few earthbinds 10: when poofs are off cooldown and youve just landed another earthbind tab cycle poof 11: repeat from step 8 until dead Blink Poof Blink Poofing is another part of meepo thats overrated for being "too hard". its god damned easy. its another simple mechanical memorization of keys 1: press 3 2: hover mouse over desired blink location 3: press (without any deviation) Tab,W,Click,Tab,W,Click,Tab,W,Click,Tab,W,Click,Tab,Blink,Click 3a: you press tab,w,click as many times as extra meepos you have. the last italicized tab, blink, click will always be at the end of your combo no matter what. the word blink represents your blink hotkey. mine is space TIP: i like to think of Tab,W,Click as 1 move. After doing one i count in my head "1". then another "2". and count in your head as many extra meepos you have. so if you have 4 meepos do the tab,w,click 4 times and count every time right after the CLICK "1, 2, 3, 4". after those 4 do your final Tab,Blink,Click
