A former housewife who had been a widow since 1967, Madam Bronzini had become the oldest living Frenchwoman in June following the death of Marie-Therese Bardet one week after her 114th birthday. American Besse Cooper, now 116, is the oldest woman in the world, according to the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group (GRG), which validates people aged 110 years or over throughout the world. July 26, 2014; Violet Brown was born on March 10, 1900, in Duanvale, Trelawny Parish, Jamaica, according to a birth record registered on March 29, 1900. She continues to live in Duanvale, Jamaica. She is the first validated Jamaican supercentenarian case, and at this time, is the 7th oldest living validated person in the world. October 15, 2017; Violet Brown died on September 15, 2017 at the age of 117 years, 189 days. She became the oldest living person in the world upon the death of Emma Morano on April 15, 2017. At the time of her death, she was the oldest person ever from the West Indies, the oldest verified person to live in the 21st century and the oldest undisputed black person ever. Brown was born as Violet Moss in Duanvale, Trelawny Parish, Jamaica on March 10, 1900. She was baptized at age 13 at the Trittonvale Baptist Church and remained a member throughout her life, long serving as an organist. She married Augustus Brown and had one daughter with him. In addition, she had six other children, the oldest of whom, Harold Fairweather, died in April 2017 at the age of 97. He is believed to be the oldest person ever with a living parent at the time of his death. Brown spent much of her life cutting sugar cane near her home in the Duanvale district. Her husband Augustus died in 1978. On her 110th birthday, aside from deafness, Violet was reported as being in good overall physical shape. She stated that she didn't feel her age, and attributed her long life to God, respecting her parents, working hard and eating coconut sauce. Her favourite pastimes include going to church, reading books and listening to music. At the age of 113, Brown was still in excellent overall health, with her memory still intact. At age 115, she was still able to walk (with the help of a walker) and could read without any glasses. In an interview this year with The Associated Press, Brown said she was surprised but grateful to have lived so long. "This is what God has given me, so I have to take it," she said.

September 26, 2011; The four photos above were taken on the occasion of Germaine Degueldre's 111th birthday party in Binche. GRG Belgian International Correspondents Messrs. Peter Vermaelen, Bart Versieck, and Anthony Croes-Lacroix met with many of Germaine's relatives, including Granddaughter MarieChristine, Grandson Jacky, and Great Great Grand Daughter ~2 months old. In all, five generations were represented. The Mayor of Binche (Devin) was also present with other representatives from the local town hall. Two Belgian national television networks, one regional network, and several print journalists attended as well. Germaine is a bit deaf since last year, but she is still very alert and in good mental shape. She is the sixth Belgian person to reach the milestone of 111 years. August 2, 2013; Jun Kitamasu was born on March 2, 1900, in Japan. We only learned about her upon the death of Mitsue Nagasaki, the previous oldest person of Hiroshima Prefecture, on June 17, 2013. Unfortunately, we did not have Jun Kitamasu's full birth date until after her own death on July 11, 2013. She was living in the town of Osakikamijima in Hiroshima Prefecture. She lived to 113 years, 131 days old, and at the time of her death, she was the 9th oldest known living verified person.

August 15, 2010; Ethel Lang was born as Ethel Lancaster in Worsbrough, West Riding of Yorkshire, England on May 27, 1900. She married William Lang, the son of an alderman and councillor in 1922 and their daughter Margaret was born in 1923. January 27, 2015; Ethel Lang became the oldest living person in the United Kingdom upon the death of Grace Jones on November 14, 2013. She died on January 15, 2015 at age 114 years, 233 days. At the time of her death, Lang was the second-oldest living person in Europe, one of the last two surviving European people born in 19th century, and the eighth oldest living person in the world. She was also the fourth-oldest British person ever and one of the 100 oldest people ever. Incidentally, she was also the last living British person to have been born during the reign of Queen Victoria.

Her family described her as a "strong and hard working woman" and put her longevity down to "genes and brandy."
