SOUND ABSORPTION TEST REPORT Test Number: A-39759-0228 Test Date: 11/7/2001 For: Armstrong World Industries Inc. 2500 Columbia Avenue Lancaster, PA 17604 Specimen Designation: Armstrong Item 1933 - Encore HumiGuard Plus

Report Issued: 6/3/2003

The test method employed conforms explicitly to the requirements of the American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM C423-00 and ASTM E795-00,. “Standard Test Method for Sound Absorption and Sound Absorption Coefficients by the Reverberation Room Method” and “Standard Practice for Mounting Test Specimens During Sound Absorption Tests.” The Armstrong Acoustics Laboratory is accredited by NVLAP of the Department of Commerce as having the competence to perform this test in accordance with the prescribed test method. A description of the facility and measuring technique is available separately.

Substrate: Mineral fiber Face Finish: Vinyl Latex Paint Back Finish: Standard Nominal Unit Size: 24" x 48" x 1/2" Physical Unit Size 1.213 m x 0.603 m x 13.3 mm or ( 47.750" x 23.750" x 0.525"), information supplied by client. Unit Weight per Area: 3.03 kg/m2, (0.62 lb/ft2) Condition: The sample tested was in an undamaged condition. Sample Size: 5.76 m2, (62.02 ft2) consisting of 8 panels arranged in a 2.40 m x 2.40 m (94.50 in. x 94.50 in.) contiguous array. Conditioning: The test was performed in a test room at 21.4 deg C, (70.6 deg F), and 70.6 % RH. The sample was conditioned at least 20 hours at 21+/-3 deg C, (70+/-5 deg F), and 50+/-5% RH. Specimen Installation: The specimen was mounted using the E-400 mounting technique according to ASTM E795. Limitations of use: The coefficients measured by this test method should be used with caution because not only are the areas encountered in practical usage usually larger than the test specimen, but also the sound field is rarely diffuse. Both of these factors will influence the absorption in practical usage. Regardless of the differences and the necessity for judgment, coefficients measured by this test method have been used successfully by architects and consultants in the acoustical design of architectural spaces. The uncertainty for 95% confidence of the sample Absorption Coefficients are calculated as outlined in section 13.5 (Precision) of ASTM procedure C423-90a. The reproducibility and repeatability are from section 13 of ASTM C423-00a. The Sound Absorption Average (SAA) is the average of coefficients between 200 and 2500 H, expressed to the nearest integral multiple of 0.01. The noise reduction coefficient (NRC) is the average of coefficients at 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz expressed to the nearest integral multiple of 0.05.
