3) Connect scanner with computer

After installing the software suit and sense objects software,plug 3D scanner into computer with USB port,and the driver will be set up automatically.

4. Start Double click the shortcut of 3D Hermes Scanner on the desktop of your computer to start.

IV. How to Use 1. Function 3D Hermes Scanner’s interface is quite user-friendly. It only takes a few seconds to create a unique three dimensional model.

2. Prepare 1) Basic Setting Main operation screen shown as below,this step is to set basic scanning parameters:

Scanning Volume This part is to set the size of scanning object. There are four options, i.e. Object Scan, Full-body Scan, Half-body Scan, and Face Scan. Object Scan (default volume, LWH):50cmx50cmx100cm Full-body Scan (default volume, LWH):100cmx100cmx200cm Half-body Scan (default volume, LWH):80cmx80cmx100cm Face Scan(default volume, LWH):25cmx25cmx25cm b.

Model Color There are two options: one is Full Color, and the other is Single Color. It depends on

the usage and which type of 3D printer you will use to produce your model.

Scanning Precision This step is to set precision of your 3D model. There are totally four options here, i.e. Low density, Middle density, High density and Full HD density. Full HD density represents for 1280x960 resolutions.

We recommend the third option, High Density for the stable usage. Since the fourth choice, Full HD density needs better hardware configuration. Otherwise you will take longer scanning time and keep the sensor moving more slowly.

2) Hardware Setting Main operation screen shown as below, this step is to set basic parameters of 3D scanner.

3D Sensor There are two options, i.e. manually and automatically, and automatically is suggested. If you are connecting more than two sensors simultaneously with your computer, the software will be configured by itself. b.

Additional Function We have prepared two scanning option,that if you have a turntable, you can choose automatically, otherwise you can choose manually. Since we have special Global Tracking technique,if the sensor moves slowly enough,it always can success. c.

Maximum Scanning Distance The distance is from the minimum 35cm to the maximum 300cm. You can drag the center point for this setting (press and hold the left mouse button to move). 100cm is recommended,but the closer the more clear of the final 3D model will be. For example,if one object has the volume of 30cm*30cm*30cm, we suggest the distance is not shorter than 70cm.

3) Environment Setting Main operation screen shown as below, this step is to set the scanning environment parameters.

a. Starting Delay We recommend 3 seconds for this setting. b.

Scanning Mode

 Manually This will need customer holding the scanner to operate manually.  Timing If customer has a turntable and tripod, you could use this mode.  Auto-tracking If this mode is chosen, the scanning object probably needs to turn several rounds to end up. We suggest choosing 180 degree per round. If scanning object is a human being, please remember to start from the back of this person. c. Auto-mending This is basically a hole filling procedure. You can turn off this function as you like.

4) Ready to Start You can press the upper right corner to start scanning at the moment

3. Scan In picture A,you can see the live video getting from the sensor. Just press the Start button at the bottom to begin. If you have set the start delay, the

software will count down for you. The highlighted blue represents for the scanning target area.





See from picture B, we are exclusively taking advantage of Global Tracking technique,so it runs smoothly as you can see, except for moving the sensor too fast and too far away from the scanning object.

The next step is to crop the bottom platform. For example,if you are using a turntable of 10cm height, we suggest you set the bottom position to 10cm, and press “Build Model” to weed out the turntable. We are exclusively adding 3D Marker (suggest size is 10.6cm x 10.6cm) function to this version. Each suite has its own unique marker to define the volume of scanning object, shown in the picture below:

After finishing the bottom position setting,you can press amending button on the right side, in order to have the computer computing by itself automatically.

4. Export After scanning, you can choose to export, or press “show model viewer” at the bottom.

There are t otally four formats for you choose,i.e. STL, OBJ, PLY, and 3DS. please note that for v1.3.2 we support exporting OBJ format with colored texture. STL is single color, while PLY and 3DS are full color. Congratulations!You are completing the whole scanning procedure at the moment.

5. Redo After saving the model file, you can press the upper right corner to redo the scanning again with the setting of last time.

6. Face Scan A. Please reference to the instruction above for the basic setting, hardware setting and environment setting. Marker size is around 8cm. B. Please note that the max scan distance should be around 50cm for hardware setting and choose manually, as shown below.

C. After entering the scanning viewer, please move your head until your face becomes blue.

D. Put the marker in front of your face with your nose pointing at the center of marker.

E. Cover the marker with your finger and take it away after the coordinate system keeps stable.

F. Press “Start” to start scanning.

G. Move your head to right and left, and press “Finish” when facing the camera again.

H. Here shows the face scan result, you can save it with reference to the Export instruction above.

V. Remarks    

Avoid outdoor and IR interference. There is not any radiation. When scanning a human being, please let him/her to keep the post steadily. Please keep the scanner moving steadily and slowly enough, in order to have the computer computing stably.  You can use the professional 3D software to mending your model, for example, Rhino, Maya, Geomagic, Meshlab and etc.  Please assure to have .NET4.5 installed in your computer.
