and rejuvenate yourself for the coming 2 months or more. Food in Samsung is good but not the best, here you will enjoy free lunch and dinner(if you stay till 8 pm). Now comes the important part(The internship).Samsung has a policy of working at least 9 hours every day so your day will generally start at 8.30 am and finish at 5.30 pm since these are the time slots for Samsung bus transportation but you can always change the schedule as per your convenience. You will be assigned a team and project mentor, he/she will give you a work on some ongoing project or something else which you will try to finish in your tenure. You have may to create some presentation in the meantime to demonstrate the ongoing work to your manager and finally you have to show or give a demo to your respective mentor and/or team. Clearly you will learn a lot from this internship and you will be able to understand the working of a top tier company. However the after experience may not be so sweet as you may or may not bag the pre placement offer as the conversion rate is pretty low here in Samsung approximately about 25%. This mainly depends on your manager's review, College CGPA and GSAT. GSAT is an aptitude test conducted by Samsung in the middle of your internship.Out of all, manager's review carry maximum weight in deciding your fate. My advice will be to prepare for the college placements as well.(Always prepare for the worst) 7.7k Views · View Upvoters Your response is private.

tl;dr It's goooood.

1. Chasing Ibises The internship kicked off with all of us checking in at the Ibis Bengaluru Techpark . Housing over 300 interns from the best engineering colleges in India, the Ibis was literally bustling with energy for the entirety of our 7-day stay there.

Our first weekend there, the Dinner Hall at the neighboring Novotel was transformed beyond recognition into an open dance-floor, complete with disco lights, a professional DJ and overenthusiastic "dance moves" that only students of engineering can pull off.

As enjoyable as the DJ night was, the three real highlights of the Ibis week for me were Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Smarter than those who exhausted their appetites with the main course itself, I delayed gratification and waited for the desserts each day. And what amazing desserts they were; just writing about them makes my mouth water. For the official orientation, the gigantic gates of the regal Taj Vivanta were opened to us. All dressed in our new Samsung T-shirts, we got to know each other a little better, made an attempt at learning some basic Korean and entertained everyone in attendance (a little more than intended) by dancing to Oppa Gangnam Style. As you might have expected by now, I continued to cheerfully play the part of a gourmet and went through course after course of the sumptuous lunch, once again saving my praises for the variety on offer in the desserts section. 2. The Office Located in Doddenakundi, SRI-B puts interns and employees alike into two buildings - Orion and Phoenix. I was on the 8th floor in Phoenix, which was definitely the more aesthetically pleasing building of the two. Samsung has a really good AC bus service that picks you up from and drops you to anywhere in Bangalore. Total Mall, opposite the office, offers a good deal for movies, and we went there after work for "X-Men: DoFP", "Edge of Tomorrow", and on the last day for "Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya". While not at the levels of Ibis or Vivanta, the office cafeteria offers more-than-decent free lunches (and dinners, should you stay till then) daily. The 4 permutations thanks to both caterers offering Veg and Non-Veg options ensure that you get to have a tasty meal each day, if you choose wisely. 3. All Play and No Work? You Wish. Interns were placed across a wide variety of teams, and were given live projects that they worked on either in pairs or individually (like me). Each intern was assigned a mentor who introduced them to the tasks-at-hand, and who could be approached for any query whatsoever. Apart from my mentor, my project required me to work closely and interact regularly with a Senior Technical Manager, a Technical Manager and a Lead Engineer, all of whom were knowledgeable and amiable. As an intern, my first pleasant surprise came in the form of the freedom that was accorded to me in the actual implementation of the project. This liberty to explore and tinker without fear facilitated me to make some key suggestions. The problem I had to work on seemed rather challenging at first, and coming up with ways to cleverly break it into solvable parts was as satisfying as the coding. I easily wrote more code at SRI-B in 2 months than I had written in the entire previous year at college. By the end, my code adhered to good programming practices, and would allow anyone joining the team later to build on top of my work. So what did I actually work on? Well, I would tell you but then I would have to kill you. I was sworn to secrecy on several occasions, and learned that it was not just my project's implementation details that were confidential but also the name of the project itself! Apart from your project, make sure you also take the GSAT (Global Samsung Aptitude Test) seriously as it does play a role in the competitive PPO conversion process. Practice some CAT type questions online for 2-3 days before, and answer the test quickly. 4. Closing thoughts I had a great time at Samsung, and grew both as a programmer and as a person. I urge all incoming interns to make the most of their time at SRI-B. This account would be incomplete without offering thanks to the two things that alternatively kept me calm and focused during my internship: Music playlists on YouTube - from Dubstep to Metal, from Jay Z to Coke Studio, from Bollywood to soundtracks of games, I heard it all during the summer. Free (that's beer, not speech) access to Cappuccinos, courtesy the CCD machines on every floor.

As a bonus, here's a quick guide to stuff you should do as an intern. 5. SRI-B Internship Checklist 1. Dance like no one is watching at the DJ night; fool around with the Drum kit and guitars in the music room at Orion. 2. Make new friends, explore Total Mall and watch a movie there

3. Chill at the 4th floor cafeteria in Phoenix; fall in love with coffee

4. Celebrate your first stipend; take in all that Bangalore has to offer; hit some restaurants, pubs and Wonder La. 5. Go watch RCB lose at the Chinnaswamy.

6. Take a bus to Tin Factory, then ride the metro from Baiyappanahalli to MG Road. 7. Eat with your friends in the other building; have grilled sandwiches for breakfast at Nature's Nest; Pick a good place for your team lunch.

8. Gain five kilograms; hit the office gym if you feel guilty. 9. Go to the ideas room on the 8th floor of Phoenix. Sit on the sofa, let your head fall backwards and take in the absolutely stunning panoramic view. 10. Work.

Full disclosure: I was given a Pre-Placement offer by SRI-B in July 2014. 15.7k Views · View Upvoters · Answer requested by Sreecharan Sankaranarayanan Your response is private.

Sai Teja Gorantla, former Intern at Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore Answered Oct 2 2017

Too Long do read! Hello guys! I am Sai Teja Gorantla, presently fourth year undergraduate in the department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. This write-up is about my internship, followed by pre-placement offer procedure.I have interned at Samsung R&D Institute,Bangalore (Hardware Profile) in 2017. I hope this will be a constructive insight for you.Let’s get started As we begin the semester with new thoughts and positive energy, comes the internship season.I am reminiscing about the time when I was indulged in preparing resume, technical, aptitude stuff and taking advice from seniors and surfing through links having the word internship.I was both confident and a bit nervous about the intern season. I was targeting for a core R&D profile in a decent industry. Preparation I was in confusion initially whether to opt for coding profile or core profile. Eventhough I gave very few attempts initially in coding companies without any preparation, later I realised my interest lies in core field. Preparation is similar to all electronics core profiles. So I sorted out my possibilities and began working in this domain. That’s the high time I had to brush up all the courses related to more of electronics stuff. Be thorough with Electronics Basics,Semiconductor Basics and Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics( try to read timing analysis if time permits) courses.Along with the aforementioned core things, had taken lot of online aptitude tests to improve my accuracy and pace which are more important for getting screened into next rounds of selection process and it is better to look upon internship procedures of companies and prepare accordingly. It is always a good notion to get the resume reviewed by seniors as preparing one-page resume is somewhat time taking with lots of editing and formatting. Always be prepared and ready for everything during the season and more importantly be focussed and confident. Selection Procedure Samsung comes in the very first or second week of the intern season. No resume shortlisting as such, everyone was allowed to give the test. The first round of test consisted of 60 aptitude questions to be solved in 60 minutes. They were divided into Numerical,Logical Reasoning and English. Each of them having 20 questions. You need to have enough practice to solve those accurately in the required amount of time,it had no negative marking so guessed the remaining. The technical test was conducted immediately after the aptitude test. Now choice was given to opt for either coding profile or core profile. In the coding profile 3 questions were given from trees, linkedlists etc.Core profile had 25 questions to be solved in 45 minutes ranging from analog electronics, digital electronics, basics of CMOS and few network analysis problems, and of course no negative marking here too.The questions in the technical test were quite tricky and error-prone.After this, panel was expected to conduct GD(more of technical) for shortlisted candidates, but they didn’t and announced selected candidates for core profile based on resume and performance in the test. Internship The most awaited internship begins in the mid-may but scorching summer was not experienced because of Bangalore, words can’t describe this city, it has to be felt.Temperatures, weather, places and many more things made summer stay there awesome.Coming into main section, basically the electronics core division is known as SSIR(Samsung Semiconductor India R&D).At the beginning, fun filled induction program was spread over a day or two in the accommodated hotel. After induction, mentors were introduced and projects were assigned in a group mostly based on resume.Moving onto the project I was assigned in the System LSI domain and CMOS Image Sensor sub-domain.Apart from this domain there were other domains like Memory Solutions, SOC, FPGA, ASIC, Library IP etc. My job was to design CMOS Active Pixel Sensor Noise Model and also its Noise reduction mechanism known as CDS(Correlated Double Sampling) based on realistic sensor parameters and Pixel Architecture.Major part of the project involved Signal Processing and Semiconductor Physics. Finally on an end note interns day was celebrated in which there were cultural activities, best project presentation and goodies. Weekends were exuberant and intriguing.Bangalore has lot to offer and don’t leave a chance to miss.Notable places ranging from amusement parks, huge malls, historical monuments, trekking, go-karting, hill stations and many more in and around the city worth a try. Final Thoughts Pre-Placement Offer selection process was slightly rigorous. It consisted of mentor’s review of performance in the project and mentor’s interview separately.Final Technical and HR interviews were taken by panel at the end of second last week.Documentation of the work done during the intern, in the last week concluded the internship. In case of any queries, feel free to message. All The Best Guys…! “STAY CONFIDENT AND FOCUSSED,GLORY FOLLOWS” 858 Views · View Upvoters

I was a summer intern at Samsung Research India, Bangalore during May-July 2013. Samsung recruits a lot of interns every year. This year they had about 100 interns from all IITs. I had a nice experience at Samsung. Though, my other friends had some different opinions about it. I had quite an interesting project to work on and a really friendly Mentor(and Manager) to help me. Work load was okay. Most of the times I found myself engaged in doing something. I had a really friendly mentor. He was quite helpful and engaged in my project. Depending upon the kind of project and mentor you get, your experience may differ from mine. Some of friends had really boring projects and other had really busy mentors. So, they weren't happy with their experiences. The work environment is okay. But it may not seem that attractive to many as compared to US based companies. You have to put in a minimum amount time each day (about ~9 hours per Day) irrespective of whether you have anything to do or not. Falling short of which, more than 3 times a month, will cost you salary (I was as surprised as you are). You can work only at office. You are not allowed to take your work home and work at a time you like. There aren't any recreational facilities where you could go to relax. In fact, you can't even use online social networks (like Facebook, Twitter, etc.) during office hours. So, basically they want you to only work at office. But, overall I had a good experience working there. I would recommend it to others and I may even join it next year. It is good company for someone who is just starting his career as you get good opportunities to learn and gain experience. 8.4k Views · View Upvoters

Lakshay Bansal, Bangalore's climate makes up for everything else. Answered Sep 28 2015 · Upvoted by Arjun Sharma, former Intern at Samsung R&D Institute - Bangalore (2017) · Author has 76 answers and 95.9k answer views

Here's something I wrote after my intern there this year: "Will Keep those two months close to heart" "Getup! It's 7, the bus leaves at 8" Frightened I woke, stared at the date A tear trickled down my eye Had been three days since goodbye. I sat up on my bed, started thinking of the time The two months that I cherish, wouldn't give up for all dime Be it experiences I had, or the people whom I met It was something great, as good as one can get. The preparations, the packing, the first offer mail The induction, the welcome, the stay at hotel The early office timings, the staying up till late The confusion of two fellas swiping the same gate!

The mysingle chats with friends and foes The 'Idea Room' coffee to think how it goes The minor laptop bugs, the silly 'Report Call' When tired, motivated by great posters on the wall!

Just 12 pm and like horses set loose, had Between BillionSmiles and Kadamba to choose And after eating out full, "bhukkhad" style The coke stepped in to help the bile!

The managers to judge, the mentors to guide The tough strict internet rules to abide The project, the test, the final interview How quickly time passed, we had no clue.

With all that tension and burden to kill We had the 4th floor cafe to chill And when even that (took a dive) didn't make us drive In came the saviour, (the) Srib-Live!

The team lunch outing, the intern day show The fire mock drill, forcefully had to go. You saw, you smiled, to show that you care She looked, she smiled, that in-lift stare. The cup, the tee, the pen, the bag Or be it the cool Starred ID's swag The love that we felt showered upon Is now being missed, that it's gone... The 9 hr policy that once looked tough It was this one that gave enough Enough time to gel and make new friends And learn about the Samsung trends.. The good, the bad whatever may be It gradually became (another) home for me. A home, from which though had to part I'll hold the two months close to heart! Always'll keep those two months close to heart...

So answering the question : yes, it was good. Atleast for me. Maybe it's because I was in one of the best teams there or maybe because it was my first work experience. But, yeah I was satisfied after the two month stay. So if you've been offered an intern there be happy. Yes they hire many, maybe too many interns but excess isn't bad especially when it's of smart people around. If you're a Northerner like myself, then be ready some cool Bangalore climate. Maybe some part of the above said stuff was a bit exaggerated as I was missing 'the cool city'.

Note: I didn't get a PPO but most of the fellow interns in my team did. Maybe it had something to do with me telling them in HR interview that I'd not be leaving Delhi permanently. 5.4k Views · View Upvoters
