A day in the life of a Senior Support Worker
As a Senior Support Worker I am responsible for directing, supporting and managing the support workers in the staff team and ensuring they are completing their specific tasks for which I am responsible as a senior. I am also whilst on shift, enabling individuals to realise their hopes, dreams and aspirations. I am here to work as part of a team and to promote the aims and values of the company. I begin my shift by arriving 10 minutes early to receive a handover from the previous designated responsible person (DRP). I also ensure I read the communication book. Once the rest of the staff arrive on shift I can pass any relevant information on to them. I allocate the various tasks for the shift and ensure that any service user on 1-1 has a staff member allocated to them. Throughout the shift I am constantly aware of my own and others health and safety. It is my responsibility to document any concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. To follow all reasonable management instructions, promoting a high quality of service and to work in partnership with colleagues, appropriate family, friends and other professionals. I am aware that during the course of my shift I actively engage with and follow individual support plans, making changes and updating as needed. I may be required to support individuals to attend health appointments, of which I will document on my return. To access the community for personal shopping or to meet up with family. At the end of my shift I will pass on to the next DRP any relevant information from my shift, complete a handover sheet and ensure 1-1 ,medication all signed correctly and daily diaries are all completed.
