Notes. In pronouncing the names of the letters, the is may be pronounced either as long English is, so that φ would sound like “fie,” or else as long English es, so that φ would sound like “fee.” The es are pronounced like English long as, so η is pronounced “Ayta” and ω is called “omayga.” Note that many Greek capitals look identical to English capitals, although not always the one you’d expect. For instance, capital η is H and capital ρ is P.
