ALICIA A. SHIELDS, DO Obstetrics & Gynecology Abington Primary Women’s Healthcare Group Alicia A. Shields, DO earned her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Biology with a minor in Psychology at Juniata College in 2009. She was inducted into the Juniata College Honor Society, the Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society, and the Tri Beta National Honor Society. In 2013, she became of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lankenau Medical Center. Dr. Shields has researched and presented work on various topics of obstetrics and gynecology, such as: morbidity and mortality conference presentations, hyperemesis, amniotic fluid embolism, management of acute menorrhagia, post-partum utilization of routine blood work, laparoscopic surgical training, and increasing emergency preparedness. In 2017, she traveled to a regional hospital in Zacapa, Guatemala and participated in a week long service trip during which she performed multiple hysterectomies and lectured to local ob/gyn residents focusing on total abdominal hysterectomies. Dr. Shields has served as a volunteer in many capacities. In 2009 she was a Volunteer Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity where she helped organize service trips to the Southern U.S., and also participated in building homes for low income families. She then worked as a tour guide, a recruiter, and an advocate for prospective students of Juniata College as well as the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Shields also functioned as an Advocacy Participant with D.O. Day on the Hill in Washington, DC, where she met with political representatives to discuss issues relevant to medical students and active physicians. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Shields enjoys golfing, spin classes, skiing, traveling, and running half marathons. Dr. Alicia A.
