MINISTRY OF HEALTH ANNOUNCEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018 Government of Uganda has received financing from the World Bank and Global Financing Facility in Support of Every Woman Every Child (GFF) for implementation of the Uganda Reproductive Maternal and Child Health Services Improvement Project. Part of the financing is to be used to support training of health workers in key disciplines in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent health tenable in Uganda. The Ministry of Health now wishes to announce availability of scholarships for pre-service and in-service training at various levels (Masters, Bachelors, Diplomas & Certificates) in local institutions starting academic year 2017/2018 categorized as follows: TABLE 1: AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS AND ELIGIBLE TRAINING INSTITUTIONS AND CANDIDATES AREA FOR TRAINING

Master of Medicine in Makerere University and Mbarara University of 3 year 15 Health workers currently working Anaesthesia Science and Technology in Public & PNFPs health facilities Certificate in Theatre Lacor, Kitovu, Rubaga, and Ishaka Adventists 2.5 years 80 Direct from O-level and eligibly techniques theatre assistants training Schools. admitted to a Theatre techniques accredited Health Training Institution Diploma in Paediatric Jinja School of Nursing 1.5 years 15 Nurses and Midwives in Public & Nursing PNFP health facilities. Fellowship in Neonatology Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, 2 years 5 Health workers working in Public Makerere University & PNFPs health facilities Diploma in Clinical Nutrition Uganda Allied Health Institute and Management 2 years 10 Health workers working in Public Sciences-Mulago (Formerly Paramedical Training & PNFPs health facilities schools). Applicants from the following hard to reach/ hard to stay districts will be given priority: Kotido, Abim, Kaabong, Moroto, Napak, Nakapiripit, Pader, Lamwo, Kitgum, Amuru, Nwoya, Gulu, Adjumani, Kalangala, Mukono including Koome Islands, Buvuma, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko, Kisoro, Kanungu, Mayuge including Islands of Malongwe Sub-County, Bukwo, Bugiri, Namayingo including Sigulu islands, Amolator, Amuria, Zombo, Nebbi, Koboko, Buliisa, Katakwi, Kaberamaido, Yumbe, Moyo, Sembabule, Kabale, Rakai, Maracha, Isingiro, Buyende, and Kiruhura. Eligibility Criteria Applicants wishing to apply for the scholarships should be: a. Working in the hard to reach districts as defined above by the Ministry of Public Service b. Working at Public or Private Not for Profit (PNFP) health facility not less than 2 years and should be on a pay roll. c. Willing to be go back to the current district of work or be or be deployed in hard to reach areas after completion of training. d. Willing to sign a bonding agreement of the Ministry of Public Service and work for a period equivalent to the time spent on training under this scholarship scheme. e. Having an admission letter from a recognized local training institution. NOTE: • The scholarships are available to Ugandan Nationals only. Applicants should attach a copy of the National Identification Card/ National Identification Number or Passport. • An applicant should not be a beneficiary of another scholarship • Applicants working in upcountry health facilities will be given a high consideration. • Female candidates are encouraged to apply • The scholarships will cover tuition and a stipend only. • Additional information can be obtained from the Ministry of Health Web Site; http://health.go.ug/mohweb. Application Process Applications should be addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health for attention of the Assistant Commissioner Human Resource Management, P. O. Box 7272, Kampala. Serving Officers on the Government of Uganda public service payroll or those working with Private Not for Profit (PNFP) Health Facilities should route their applications through their immediate supervisors. Successful candidates will be required to apply for official study leave from their employers. Hand written or typed applications should be submitted individually with self-identification to Registry 2 Office at Ministry of Health Headquarters by 28 August 2017.
