Answer Key When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine Literary Analysis Answers will vary. Sample answers are given. Row 1 Lilia treats Mr. Pirzada with courtesy. She worries about his family’s safety. She becomes very aware of her Indian heritage. Row 2 Lilia is confused by what her father tells her about India’s Partition and Mr. Pirzada’s identity. She wants to be both Indian and American. She learns about Indian history. Row 3 Lilia cherishes the candy Mr. Pirzada brings her. She wants to save the candy and eat it. She throws the candy out. Row 4 Lilia thinks of Mr. Pirzada as just another Indian friend of her family’s. Lilia is upset that she told Mr. Pirzada “don’t worry” about her own welfare, not his family’s. She becomes concerned for other people. The theme the author is trying to communicate is that family and heritage are both important to a person.
