CITY OF AZUSA APPRENTICE ELECTRICAL TEST TECHNICIAN ELECTRICAL TEST TECHNICIAN DEFINITION Under immediate supervision, performs electrical and mechanical work in connection with the installation, testing and repair of electric meters, instruments and related equipment; performs related duties as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Apprentice Electrical Test Technician: This is the trainee class in the Electrical Test Technician class series and incumbents learn the electric meter testing trade. The apprenticeship programs for incumbents is as follows: First six months- Under direct supervision of the Senior Electrical Test Technician, cleans, tests and repairs single phase meters and assists in the field testing of electric meters. Second six months- May conduct field tests and install single phase self contained meters up to 240 volts without direct supervision. Third six months- Under direct supervision of the Senior Electrical Test Technician, cleans, tests and repairs polyphase meters and current transformers. Fourth six months - May install and field test polyphase meters and wire current transformers without direct supervision. Fifth six months- Under general supervision, installs and field tests polyphase primary metering equipment; tests and installs single phase and polyphase meters without direct supervision. Electrical Test Technician: This is the journey level class in the Electrical Test Technician class series. Advancement to this level requires the successful completion of an apprenticeship program and an evaluation by management that the incumbent has obtained the practical knowledge and skills to perform all the duties required of the journey level class. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These functions may not be present in all positions in this class. When a position is to be filled, the essential functions will be noted in the announcement of position availability. Apprentice Electrical Test Technician Participates in the above described apprenticeship program. Works with line crew, as a Line Mechanic Helper restoring electric services during and after normal hours of work. Electrical Test Technician Installs, changes, and checks polyphase meters, demand meters, reactive VAR meters and instrument transformers; performs routine field tests on watt-hour meter installations; inspects consumer's meters and installation of proper wiring; assists in investigating consumer current diversion or meter tampering.

Apprentice Electrical Test Technician=Electrical Test Technician Class Specification ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (con't.) Tests, repairs, and adjusts protective relays, meters, clocks, recorders, and instruments located in substations and pumping stations; tests, repairs and calibrates solid state equipment; performs load surveys by timing watt-hour meters. Runs high voltage tests on equipment and other necessary tests. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS These are position functions which may be changed, deleted or reassigned to accommodate an individual with a disability. QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include graduation from high school or equivalent and Apprentice Electrical Test Technician: one year of experience in working with electric meters or equivalent to one year of course work/studies in the electrical field. Electrical Test Technician: three years of progressively responsible experience in the installation, maintenance and testing of electric meters and other related instruments. Knowledge and Skill Levels Apprentice Electrical Test Technician: Working knowledge of basic electricity; electric test equipment; operation of hand tools and equipment. Skill in the operation of a personal computer. Electrical Test Technician: Considerable knowledge of theory, methods and procedures in the installation, maintenance, testing and calibration of electric meters, testing instruments and equipment; occupational hazards and standard safety precautions. Ability Level Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; maintain records; perform calculations in electrical in electrical load survey; maintain and calibrate test instruments in accordance with established standards; maintain effective working relationships; perform heavy manual tasks under varied weather conditions; work independently; follow oral and written instructions; observe proper safety precautions and procedures; care for tools and equipment; learn and perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled tasks in the shop and in the field; work safely around energized conductors; operate a personal computer and utilize a variety of software programs; perform a variety of tests on meters. Special Requirements Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license within six months of employment and a satisfactory driving record.
