a. English Placement Test (EPT) You must take this examination unless exempt before enrollment at SFSU or you will be disenrolled. (Consult Bulletin for a list of exemptions.) b. Lower Division English 114 (or equivalent) English 214 (or equivalent) c. Upper Division You must take the Junior English Proficiency Essay Test (JEPET) after completing at least 48 units and passing English 114/214. If you do not pass JEPET, you must take English 414. NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS OF ENGLISH may be eligible to use SFSU Composition Program for Multilingual Student (CMS) classes as substitutes for these requirements. Eligibility for all SFSU CMS classes is based on results of the English as a Second Language Placement Test (ESLPT). ENTRY LEVEL MATHEMATICS EXAMINATION (ELM)

UPPER DIVISION UNITS: 40 units minimum SFSU courses numbered 300-699 are upper division. They may be in your major, G.E., electives, or in a minor, if you choose to complete one. Community College courses are always lower division courses. Total (40 units minimum)

CREDIT/NO CREDIT No more than 30% of units taken at SFSU may be taken using the Credit (CR) grading option. Consult major department for specific limits in your major.

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS (Units taken at SFSU) Total (30 MINIMUM): These must include: ____ 24 Upper Division (including 9 in G.E.) ____ 12 in major (lower or upper division) (Courses taken through Open University do not count as residence units.)

MAJOR/ MINOR All students must have a major. Minors are optional. Consult the Bulletin and an advisor in your major or minor.

MAXIMUM UNITS IN ONE SUBJECT If you exceed 60 units in one discipline (same course prefix), a minimum of 60 units outside that discipline is required to get a B.A. or B.S.

DOUBLE COUNTING No more than 12 units may be used to fulfill a requirement in both the major and in G E. (Some majors have their own limits.) Units earned will be credited only once. There is no limitation on units double-counted between a minor and GE. MINIMUM SEMESTER UNITS: 120 units for a B.A.
