August 2017

Welcome Back! Hello again, Florida HOSA! I’ve missed you all very much. As the school bells start ringing again, I know you are all missing sleeping in and the warm Florida sun, but no worries! We have so much planned for you this 2017-2018 HOSA year! So let’s crack open those texts books and make a difference in this world as Future Health Professionals. For those of you who don’t know, I will be serving as your Florida HOSA State President. During my young HOSA years, I balanced my leadership roles and in my free time, I enjoyed photography, writing, and the outdoors. Not much has changed except that within this past year, serving as a Florida HOSA State Officer, I grew a lot as a leader through my experiences with each one of you; I anticipate pushing the limits even further this year. But that’s enough about past me. I am currently in my pre-requisites for Nursing school at Florida International University and my anticipated career path ranges from Nurse Corps to Pediatric Jackie Anorga Oncology. However, that is for future Jackie to figure out. State President Right now, I am enjoying every second of life, just like Patch Adam’s said: “Being happy is the best cure of all diseases.” So, how about we make the best of this crazy thing called life?

Hey there, Florida HOSA! Welcome Back!

August 2017 Page 2

Florida HOSA, welcome back to a new school year of endless opportunity! As you experience the end of being a member in one chapter and the beginning of the next, always remember the lasting relationships that you made in HOSA. I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve Florida HOSA this year as a State Officer and could not be more delighted. Currently, I am a senior at Timber Creek High School in Orlando and a Region 10 HOSA member. I became involved in HOSA through the Project Lead the Way Biomedical Program as my advisor introduced the opportunities and potential growth I could experience through joining this organization. Now I would like to maximize your growth as a member of HOSA and as a person. I am beyond excited to serve as your Florida HOSA State Northern Vice-President, Secondary in this 2017 - 2018 HOSA year. For this upcoming year, I hope to be a leader that empowers you. Seek Evangelina Wong opportunity, pursue it, and be the best you! Go with an expectation of State Northern VP, Sec. greatness and you are bound to find it. I want to meet each and every one of you. As a HOSA family, we will share in each other’s successes, as well as our challenges. We will help each other stand and continue to walk forward together in pursuit of our future health careers.

“I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse.”

Welcome back, Florida HOSA! I hope you are all as stoked as your State Team is to introduce you to the 2017-2018 academic and HOSA year! I’m ecstatic and honored to be serving you all for another year. This will mark my sixth year in this incredible organization and I would find it hard to express how Suzane Nazir State Northern VP, PS/C remarkable my experiences have been thus far. I’m currently a Public Health and Cell/Molecular Biology student at the University of South Florida (the largest Postsecondary/

- Florence Nightingale

Collegiate chapter in the state - GO BULLS!!) to ultimately reach my goal of attending medical school. In my last term as State Officer for this wonderful association, I aspire to increase connectivity amongst respective regions. I believe that through communication, members and advisors will be able to share ideas and methods with each other across the state thus allowing them to improve old techniques and/or strengthen their own. This will foster an environment where members will ultimately be able to reap more from this organization. With that being said, while you are enjoying the last few days of your summer vacation, be mindful of the opportunities that present themselves this year. And as always, bear in mind the impact you can have on those around you. I look forward to meeting you all at various future conferences. Let’s make it a great year!

Welcome back, my fellow HOSA members! The time has come again - textbooks are being opened, pencils are in hand, and school bus engines are revving. It’s going to be an amazing year! I am honored to be your State Southern Vice-President, Secondary. I’m Hope, and I bring the hope to HOSA. I’m a freshman at the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!) majoring in nursing, hopeful to become a travel nurse. I’m originally from Weston, which is a small town near Fort Lauderdale, where I spent my days enjoying the life of a typical Floridian. I attended Cypress Bay High School, where I was the VP of Publicity in my HOSA chapter. Not only was I involved in HOSA, but also volunteered twice a week at my local hospital, Cleveland Clinic Florida. As a State Officer, I hope to be a leader, but also your friend. It is very rewarding to be able to engage with our incredible HOSA members and advisors. I hope to serve you to the best of my ability and have the members of HOSA thrive with success! All in all, I hope everyone is ready for an amazing year filled with Hope Bruner opportunities and countless memories! State Southern VP, Sec.

“If you think you  can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.” - Henry Ford

Welcome back, Florida HOSA! I’m sure you are all wishing that you were still at the beach, kicking it back with all your friends, but it is now time to

begin setting ten alarms to wake up by 6 a.m. and hitting the books. August is not just the beginning of the new school year, it’s also the beginning of the 2017-2018 HOSA year! I hope you make the best of your opportunities this year through Florida HOSA and I can’t wait to hear all about it throughout the year. I am entering my Junior year of college at Nova Southeastern University as an Athletic Training Major. Competing in Sports Medicine in HOSA the past 4 years has really given me the edge in my classes and I use my knowledge and skills everyday on athletes to get them ready to compete at a high level. I aspire to become an orthopedic surgeon and someday

work with professional athletes. HOSA has impacted me in ways that I would have never expected when I first joined; it has been a life changing experience and is something that I want everyone to experience. That is why I became a State Officer, to help make Florida HOSA the best it can be and make it a great life changing experience for each one of you! Please feel free to come up to me and ask any HOSA questions you have or to just talk to me about your HOSA experience. I want to get to know all of our Florida HOSA members because each member is special and has a unique HOSA story. I look forward to a sensational year serving you and making this the best HOSA year yet!
