Bachelor in Aquaculture Management Study place Bodø Responsible faculty Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture Study programme director Rolv Kristiansen E-mail address [email protected] Language of instruction Norwegian Admission requirements General competence for admission to higher education in Norway. Programme evaluation Students take an active part in the evaluation of the courses in the program through mid-term and final evaluation. It is also conducted dialogue meetings between students and study responsible every semester. Assessment methods Letter A-F for all subjects except for EK 209 Work placement in Norway and EK205 Work placement abroad which is "passed or not passed" according to a written report. Costs Maximum NOK 2000 (mostly for field trips) General description and profile of the programme This full-time programme includes lectures and various forms of exercises mainly in the laboratories. In the last semester the students will do field practise in Norway or abroad. Some handicaps may limit the laboratory exercises and field practical work. Course contents: The course will focus on fish and seafood as one of Norways most important export articles. Through the course the students will learn about some of Norways most important marine products both from wild fish/shellfish and common farmed species. The chemical composition and muscle structure of marine raw material. Quality deterioration during storage. Freshness grading. Microorganism and microbial decomposition of marine raw material and products. The effect of temperature on decomposition and rancidity. Chilling and freezing. Salting, smoking, drying, canning, MAP and sous vide products. Product development and product leadership will be an important part of the course, where the student will learn how to use terms and ways to explain practical problems within product development, with fish products as natural examples. Offered as a free-standing course: Priority for students having this course as an obligatory part of their study program. Other students can follow the class if there is free capacity. I addition there will be 3 whole day seminars in product development. Students appoint a representative with special responsibility to ensure dialogue between the students and the course coordinator / lecturer, or the Head of Studies / administration, if necessary. In addition to this evaluation process, a final evaluation using an electronic questionnaire will be conducted. Course contents: An introduction to the history of thinking, with particular emphasis on the development of ontology, epistemology, ethics and politics will be given. The introduction is concentrated on a few key historical periods, especially ancient times, the scientific revolution and the enlightenment. The topics will be discussed in both a historical and systematic perspective. At the centre of the curriculum are thinkers such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Galileo, Descartes, Hobbes, Hume, Kant, Darwin and Popper. Learning outcomes: Examen Philosophicum will provide students with an introduction to the common frame of reference Western ideas and philosophy of history represents. The course also provides a basis for further study in various disciplines. Students should through work with curriculum develop theoretical knowledge, analytical skills and the ability of critical reflection on social issues in a historical perspective. Questions about scientific thinking and working methods are also central to the course. In other words, students familiarize themselves with the basic questions related to human cognition, and to moral and political practice. These main topics will through examples and discussions be linked to current social issues. Learning activities and teaching methods: The teaching consists of both lectures and seminars. At seminars, students are encouraged actively to participate in the discussions on the topics first presented in lectures. The seminars also function as exam preparation. Studieplaner Prerequisites: None Recommended previous knowledge: None Learning activities and teaching methods: 3 x 3 class hours with combined lectures and solving of problems, 8 weeks. Lectures and problems are integrated, so the students will solve problems in the lecture classes. Exercises are mandatory, and 4 (5) exercises must be accepted. Details about the exercises will be given at the first lecture. 2 class hours in 13 weeks, plus additional 3 x 3 class hours the last week with summary/theoretical problems. 4 x 3 class hours with mandatorial laboratory exercises. Studieplaner Course evaluation: Every course is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system. Course contents: The thesis is a supervised independent piece of work that may either be theoretically based or based on the students' own results. The form for approval of the topic must be delivered to the Faculty by 15th September for the autumn semester / 20th January for the spring semester. Specific supervision for writing the bachelor's thesis is given on the Learning Management System Fronter. This will also clarify the formal requirements of the thesis. Learning outcomes: On successful completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes:

Recommended previous knowledge: Internal course on writing reports. Mode of delivery: Face-to-face. Learning activities and teaching methods: Seminars. Assessment methods and criteria: In addition to the approval of the project by 15th September/20th January (special form), the thesis must be conducted under supervision.
