Bat Technician, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Opening Date: 10/11/17 Closing Date: 10/18/17, 5 pm Eastern Time Salary: $10.00/hr Job Type: Temporary, Full Time Location: Clemson, Pickens County, South Carolina Start Date: January 2018 Job Responsibilities: Assists the bat biologist in prepping for and conducting hibernacula counts and White-nose syndrome (WNS) testing while adhering to WNS decontamination protocols. Assists in prepping for and conducting 2018 summer bat monitoring through netting, harp trap, and guano sampling. Assists in providing outreach to NWCOs with updates on the spread of WNS as well as on NLEB and any other new bat species listing. Also assists with other outreach related duties. Enters data collected into a database/excel spreadsheet and exports to Heritage Trust (HT) database. Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work or an associate degree in the technical sciences. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience conducting field work. Bat monitoring experience highly desirable. Ability to enter caves and mines to count hibernating bats. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to work in all types of weather and terrain. Ability to work independently, follow protocols and direction from manager, and work with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
