I had a very disappointing experience with Sixt's Miami Airport unit recently. It seems to echo the other negative reviews I've seen (at Yelp) regarding the company's aggressive and I would even say dishonest attempts to upsell unnecessary insurance and Sun Pass toll transponders. As a result, I will never rent from this company again.

In going to pick up my pre-booked car a few weeks ago, I was repeatedly told by the Sixt representative that I had pay extra to have the electronic toll transponder (which allows one to be billed automatically in going through tolls), because "it is necessary on all Florida highways." I knew from repeated, recent experience that this was simply not true, and after some discussion refused that option.

Even worse, that same agent kept offering me the options of either "complete" or "basic" insurance coverage, even though I kept insisting I did not want any coverage (since my rental car is covered by my own insurance company). After she printed out my rental agreement, I noticed that she'd nevertheless assigned basic coverage nearly doubling my bill by $200. If I hadn't checked and reversed that charge, I would have been stuck with it.

I travel a great deal and generally give agents the benefit of the doubt in travel situations, knowing that hotel, airline and car rental representatives can make mistakes - as can I. In fact, I have lodged complaints perhaps twice (at most) before in over 20 years of professional and personal travel and have taken time to praise such agents over a dozen times But it seemed clear that Sixt was trying to take advantage of visitors from abroad and/or jet-lagged customers by tacking on the extra charges they would be too ignorant or tired to question.

I might add that the lines at the Sixt counter at Miami Airport are often quite long and it is impossible to reach the office there by phone to get questions answered. Finally, there were some minor maintenance issues, such as no windshield wiper fluid in the car I rented.

I had a related experience with Sixt in Miami Beach. I rented on line for two days but returned the car after one day. They charged me for both days rental, because, apparently, in the small print of their Terms and Conditions, they state that on-line rentals do not qualify for refunds for early returns.

I'm sure that is a perfectly legitimate term, although I guess they would have charged me more if I kept it for an extra day. It's also legitimate for me never to rent from Sixt again.

Hi i have just come back from a cruise only to find a email saying i have not returned the car and the car has been reported stolen. The reference number is not the one on my paper work, it's now been four days and i have sent a number of emails with copy of my paper work and still not sorted . How can i take a car on a cruise ship? ? Maybe i put it my suitcase !!!!!.

This place is disgusting. The only reason I gave them A star, is because the car was fine. My husband picked up the car and was never asked to do a once over with an agent (like most places do), and he, being on vacation was excited to get out of there so he didn't do a thorough exterior inspection. We had the car for 3 days- he drove from Miami airport to our condo, parked overnight in the garage, then we drove to key largo (clearly at slow speeds) without any incidence, then drove back to the condo garage overnight. The next day, we drove to the airport. That was it. No trouble, the garage was secure and spacious, no chance of anything besides normal road wear. We get to the airport and the attendant starts circling the tiniest flecks of paint missing. I took photos because she seemed shady and was taking hundreds of photos of 4 small places. We get a bill for $700. For labor, parts, and time of the car being out of service. Also in the photos is a dent that was NOT reviewed by us when we dropped the car off, and with the lighting it is hard to see what is even present in the picture. The whole situation is shady and disgusting. We are responsible adults who had nothing but a short amount of smooth driving and we come away with a bill for $700? I've rented across the country and have NEVER, EVER had this horrible of an experience. Reading other reviews I feel validated because they mention questionable damage, noticeable touch up paint, and agents "knowing what they were looking for." Pathetic. I will not stop spreading the word on how horrible the company is. I am outraged.

I rented a car in Miami I had booked online. Upon arriving to pick it up, the agent said I could not pay cash, only credit card (even if I left a deposit using my credit card). It seemed strange but I went with it. Very good car, but oh surprise when the same day I receive my invoice online my bank notified me that they blocked my credit card due to credit fraud. I only used my card during this trip to the USA to pay the rental car with Sixt. Someone who stole my credit information tried to make more than 12 purchases for a dollar and finally tried to make two purchases for more than USD 2000. Fortunately the card had already been blocked. What was the response of the company: "there is no indication that we failed in our responsibility." Quite a bland response. Never using them again.

Its not just the car rental, I have had numerous bad experiences in restaurants, hotels and other places. People in Miami are just not friendly.

They gave me a compact hatchback even though I booked a full size car and told me that it is in the same category. When I call I was given a run around. This is really a fraud: knowingly substituting contractually agreed to product with an inferior one . I will never again rent a car from them

We booked a luxury convertable directly from their website for 4 days(24th to 28th dec). We planed to rent BMW 4 series. As soon we get the car we realize it was a disaster. the condition of car couldn't be worse. So, my husband asked for an exchange and we got Audi A5 convertible. this one was nice. but the customer service we got was horrible. the guy at the counter kept pushing us for unnecessary insurance even after telling we are covered. that guy even asked my husband what kind of car he drives back home. when he replied toyota that guy gave him a look that we dint deserve to drive a luxury convertible. what the hell.. is this the way Sixt wanna treat their customers. make then feel inferior???

on top of this mess, when we returned the car exactly in 4 days within the timeline without any damage and were told we'll get electronic receipt later. we were in hurry to catch our flight back to seattle so we trusted and left. but only to feel cheated later. next day we receive a notification that we haven't returned the car and let them know if we wanna extend our rental. we called them and explained that we already have returned the car but to our surprise we still got charged for extra 2 days and no one's responding to our email and calls. I disputed the amount now just before writing this review i hope it get resolved quickly. we are never gonna trust Sixt again. It was just a bad experience.

I also had a terrible experience with Sixt Renal cars. I flew into Miami airport around 7pm and finally reached the rental car center around 7:45. I saw multiple reviews stated that long lines were a common occurrence with Sixt so I didn't think much of it when I arrived. But ONE hour later when the line had not moved one inch and the same two people were still at the front counter, I knew something wasn't right. I was tired a from traveling all day and so I ended up getting quotes from other rental car companies in the Rental Car Center ( I ended up using Budget which gave me the best price compared with Sixt) and the Budget company said that the Sixt line wasn't moving because THEY RAN OUT OF CARS because they overbooked themselves. I will never ever use this company again.
