OVERVIEW As educators, we are not satisfied with simply teaching students to repeat facts back to us (parrots can do that). We want much more. We want our students to look at the world, weigh what they see, and arrive at the truth—rather than simply having it presented to them. In other words, we want them to think critically. But teaching critical thinking is not easy. For starters, there is not even strong consensus on what critical thinking is. Beyond that, there are questions about where it is appropriate, how to integrate it, how to advance it, and how to measure it. Infusing Critical Thinking into Your Courses is a new Magna Online Course that surveys the scholarship on critical thinking and provides a clear path to integrate it into your teaching.

BENEFITS This Magna Online Course surveys the scholarship on critical thinking and provides a clear path to integrate it into your learning. Led by Linda B. Nilson, Ph.D., founding director of the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation at Clemson University, this program tackles critical thinking in four stages: Building critical thinking into course design Teaching students to think critically Assessing student learning with objective measures Assessing learning through constructed responses

LEARNING GOALS Thoughtfully chosen readings and exercises will further help you understand critical thinking and hone your approach to teaching it.
