Call for Participant Discussion published by Julie de Chantal on Friday, February 10, 2017 I am currently organizing a panel on Black women and transnational activism for the 2018 meeting of the AHA. Alison M. Parker (College at Brockport, SUNY) will be presenting on Mary Church Terrell’s use of international events as well as political and and diplomatic relations between the U.S. and other nations to try to advocate for equality and full citizenship rights for African Americans and other people of color. Julie de Chantal (University of Massachusetts Amherst) will present on Boston Black female activists' leverage of their transnational connections and the use of rhetoric of decolonization in the civil rights movement in the city from 1950 to 1970. Erik McDuffie (University of Illinois) will chair the panel. We are looking for a commentator and one more presenter for our panel. The 2018 AHA will be held January 4-7 in Washington D.C. The theme of the conference will be "Race, Ethnicity, and Nationalism in Global Perspective.” If you are interested in joining our panel, send an abstract and short cv to
