Carnival Sales Managers Meet in New Orleans Conference is an opportunity to show recovery progress New Orleans— About 125 executives and business development managers from Carnival Cruise Lines will be meeting in New Orleans this week, Sept. 24-26, for their quarterly sales conference and to get updates on the recovery of the city. Carnival, the Port of New Orleans, the New Orleans Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the Louisiana Office of Tourism have planned events that will show the Carnival sales managers the progress that Louisiana’s tourism infrastructure has made since Hurricane Katrina. “The business development managers are going to get a taste of the Louisiana way of life, the food, music and culture, and they are going to realize that New Orleans is coming back stronger than ever as a world-class tourist destination,” said Gary LaGrange, President and CEO of the Port. “We feel confident that once they see how far New Orleans has come, they will be able to assure more of the traveling public that the time is right for cruising from New Orleans.” The business development managers will get a chance to see how Carnival passengers can enjoy themselves by visiting a local plantation. A reception at a mansion on St. Charles Avenue will include live, local music from the Latin band Otra and a Jazz combo. They will have many opportunities to soak up the sights, sounds and cuisine of New Orleans. They will also get a tour of the Erato Street Cruise Terminal, a new $37 million terminal and parking garage that was completed in October 2006. The terminal recently won the 2007 American Association of Port Authorities’ Facilities Engineering Award . A number of speakers have also been invited to address the group. U.S. Attorney Jim Letten will update the group on crime fighting efforts in New Orleans at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25th at the Monteleone Hotel. Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu will address the group about the resurgence of the tourism industry at the Erato Street Cruise Terminal on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 6:45 p.m. Mayor C. Ray Nagin will discuss the city’s recovery with the group at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26th at the Monteleone Hotel. Lt. Governor Landrieu traveled to Miami in April 2007 with port officials to encourage Carnival executives to homeport ships in Louisiana. The Lt. Governor said, "Carnival Cruise Lines is one of our valuable partners, and we are committed to building up the cruise industry in Louisiana. Before the storms, cruise business accounted for $241 million in spending in Louisiana and New Orleans was one of the nation's top 10 cruise ports." -- MORE --

Carnival Cruise Lines and the Port of New Orleans recently announced a new two-year contract retroactive to Oct. 2006, with the option to renew the deal for an additional two-year-period, which could keep the world’s largest cruise line sailing regularly from the Crescent City through 2010. NOTE TO REPORTERS & EDITORS: Please contact Chris Bonura, 504-606-5807 to gain admission to the speeches for the Carnival visit mentioned in this press release.
