In addition to his editorial responsibilities, he was instrumental in developing MyGolfSpy's data-driven testing methodologies and continues to sift through our data to find the insights that can help improve your game. Most of all Tony believes in performance over hype and #PowerToThePlayer.

5 YEARS AGO I watched my handicap soar with the Amp Cell Irons. Long irons are good but have jacked up lofts. Short Irons will kill your game, especially chipping around the green. Hot faces put little spin on the ball and you will blow these past the hole or leave em very short due to fear of blowing them past. Chipping was always the best part of my game but became the worst with these. They also are cheaply made and face wears very fast. Completely Chinese made. I dumped mine yesterday, Thank God, for a set of American Made Callaway Razr X Tours. Had demoed a set first to see if my collapse was me or Amps. Amps!!!! I am back! Amps are so cheap and mass produced that you can buy a new set on line for $300 and they are this years release!

3 YEARS AGO Try not chipping with a bag set. Most people own completely different wedges. This is funny. I play amp cell. But I use TM wedges. And the combo has lowered my HC.

5 YEARS AGO Went to local demo days today to decide between Ping G25 and Titleist AP1. The pro said try the Cobra AMP cell. Incredible! Longer, straiter, and Higher than the ping or tilteist. I did not have 1 bad shot. The could hear the guy standing behind me commenting on how well I was hitting the ball and asked what I was hitting. I cant wait to get custom fit for a set of these!

5 YEARS AGO Went to the golf shop on the 5th to get fitted for new irons. Had no idea what brand I would leave with after the fitting. Completely an open mind. Hit irons from five different companies during and after the fitting. Walked away with the new Amp Cell. I can’t remember making such a solid hit that I could feel from the head all the way to the grip. Distance and direction were better than I can remember. Can’t wait to play this week when they get here. A benefit of Florida.

5 YEARS AGO I have the 2008 S9 II irons. I have to say they are the best irons I have ever owned. Just last October I went ahead and bought the RBZ. I hit then for 3 months and sold them yesterday. They were ok but not as good as the S9s. I don’t know what is it with the Cobra’s but the 4 iron is so easy to hit…(to tell the truth every S9 is easy to hit). I have my eyes set on the AMP Cell, as soon as I get the chance to try them I’m sure I’ll fall for them.

5 YEARS AGO Also forgot to mention, more toe and heel relief. All irons are less wide than the AMP ’12, especially in the 7-pw irons. I don’t know why the cavity back on those irons are so big, one thing I dont like. The new grips are also better and the sound of the face is more crisp and higher pitch.

5 YEARS AGO I tried the new AMp cell Irons at Dicks and Wow!. I noticed a different at the set up and striking the balls crisp. I couldn’t atribute anything clearly to the different but the 7 cell seemed to bounce and launch the ball hot off the face. At least hotter and seemed more forgiving. I put it next to the 7 amp and I noticed a little off set in the 7 CELL. I’m completely ok with it, my strikes where straighter and higher, granted into a net. I tried hitting the old 7 amp, and I had more mishits off the mat. I like my AMPs from ’12 but so far from what I’ve seen – the new Cells seem more forgiving, hotter and better turf/mat interaction. BTW- not enough swings to make a definite conclusion.

5 YEARS AGO OK _ I commented on the AMP Pro thread a few minutes/hour ago and I thought MGS had done something on the plain old AMP irons? Guess not? I did read a review at the other major club site and it was extremely positive – so I was curious? I did see this when it posted but had not hit the AMP irons yet. I was not happy with the inconsistency of the recent purchase of a set of JPX 800 with KBS Tour 90 over the summer. Mostly the bottom end of the set to be honest. Anyway i was leaning towards a set of G20’s and knew that as soon as I bought the 20’s the G25’s would appear. Looks like that will now happen at the PGA show in January and be available sometime by March. So I thought – OK – I have 3 to 5 months to kill – So I bought a set of plain old AMP irons yesterday and picked them up today after having the lie adjusted 2+ and 1/2² in length and played till dark 15 holes. Please go hit these if you are looking at GI irons. They feel great are easy to hit and the long irons GO! I have never hit a 4 iron like this. And the bottom of the set 8-U is solid. But will take a few more swings to get them dialed in – probably tomorrow! Went with the stock TT 90 shafts – Launch is high – but after all – isn’t that what we want? Throwing darts at pins? Anyway – I can’t imagine these AMPS Cells feeling better or performing better than the plain old AMP’s? But I will certainly be looking at them to see if that is the case when they become available for demo in February or March? And as far as being tiny crap – Sorry – These almost feel forged to me? I am pretty happy if you can’t tell with the AMPS and the JPX 800 will be on the Bay Saturday. I still love the R12 MIzzy wedges and now I can put the 52 back in the bag with the 56 and 60 as the AMP 4 iron is going to kick the TM 3 Rescue out of the bag? Cheers

6 YEARS AGO Played for 50 years. Never was a Cobra fan till this year. I have Razr and R11 irons as well as the Amp, and by far and away the Amp is a better feeling club and really easy to hit. Love them as well as the ZL Encore driver. Very excited about these new irons and the new Cobra adjustable woods. Will definately consider purchasing them when they are available. Choice of colour is a bonus.

6 YEARS AGO I smell some Titleist Rage on this Page…

6 YEARS AGO Thank our lucky stars we have such diverse designs to choose from! I’d get bored pretty quick if everyone played the same equipment, or drove the same car or lived in identicle buildings. It’s a good thing to have such incredible choices…no? (“,)

6 YEARS AGO These are cool. Looking at the close up pictures reminds me of Spider-man! I want one, but I got my Adams A12 Pro. Will not hit anything else. Good review, nice pictures, and thanks for the hard work. Some are just not appreciative of the time and effort.

6 YEARS AGO Wow there are a lot of haters for these clubs. Raise your hand if you have hit them?? anyone… no. Dont knock something till you tried it. Side note.. putting things in all caps makes you sound like an asshole

6 YEARS AGO Amen Brother !

6 YEARS AGO To those who are downing Cobra AMP- I recently sold my AP2 set and went to the currant Cobra Amp out in market. LOVE them and they sound just as flush as my AP2, or the set set of Taylormade r9 tp, or the set of Cleveland CG blades, or the ping eye 2’s i played back in school. I’ve been playing for 24years (since I was 9) and currently play 3 times a week and practice for an hour everyday at lunch. Sure my friends laugh at my silver shoes, white pants, and loud shirts, but one thing that any real golfer knows it’s the final score is all that counts . To all golfers looking to get better – hit as many clubs as you can before you buy and try every kind and shape of irons and driver. Don’t be a hacker like these morons downing everything on here. Go check out the pro’s bag- not everything in them is blades and above all get fitted for the right shaft. It will make the most difference! Your worst day at golf is always better then the best day at work…..

6 YEARS AGO WOULDN’T PLAY THESE ON A BET. I CAN JUST IMAGINE THE LAFFS I’D GET FROM ANYOPNE THAT KNOWS HOW TO PLAY THE GAME. THESE ARE WELL SUITED FOR THE 6 TIMES A YEAR HACKER, NOT FOR ANY SERIOUS PLAYER . I WONDER IF A CLOWN HAT AND FUNNY SHOES ARE INCVLUDED IN EACXH SET BOUGHT.

5 YEARS AGO So insecure that you worry about people laughing at you. What are you a 13yo girl?

6 YEARS AGO Well Dave case not closed, not one set of Cobra irons that I have hit sound “tinny” as you say, and as far as manufacturing ROFL you do realize all irons are made in the same place don’t you? This years Amp irons are the best irons I have ever hit, they sound and feel solid are better than most irons out there (imo) and the prices are not over the top to cover advertising. Instead of trying and failing to bash these irons wait until you can actually try them.

6 YEARS AGO It’s got a pretty foo-foo design- yipee! Makes me want to go right out and buy it! Not really…

6 YEARS AGO CRAP CRAP TINY SOUNDING CRAP Ill bet my life savings thats what they will feel like, CHEAP MANUFACTURING, case closed.

6 YEARS AGO Looks good. But is it good?

6 YEARS AGO Great was all set to buy me some Amp irons and now these come out, guess I will have to hit them to see how they differ from the Amp 2012 model which I love and to be able to get the new irons in orange too sweet Lord what shall I do? lol

6 YEARS AGO Like the new look, the white will be difficult to keep white , need a thinner top line .Cobra (PUMA) is setting the pace for others to follow.LED FOLLOW OR MAKE YOUR OWN PATH!! YES it’s a step in the right direction and can’t wait to see more!!

6 YEARS AGO Not a huge fan of the white badge even with the colors but other than that I think the club looks pretty good. Definitely has a modern but still very “Cobra” look to it.

6 YEARS AGO From a looks perspective, these destroy the RBZ. This is where these sticks compete, right?

6 YEARS AGO They look cool, and will attract a different kind of market. But im still waiting for Cobra to make a players cavity iron, something inbetween S3 pro’s and Amp Forged.

6 YEARS AGO The S3 pro come with the option of cavity backs 7- pw I have a set and its prefect for the extra forgiveness, if only for peace of mind.
