What is a Hornbook, Treatise, or Study Aid? A hornbook, which is typically one volume, is a scholarly work that summarizes a specific area of law and is geared towards law students. The Legal Information Center keeps past exams, and items your professor puts on reserve, on ARES. Items are placed there voluntarily by professors for the purposes of providing students with access to past exams or for the use of class materials for use throughout the semester, and not all professors place items on ARES. Check with your professor to see if they placed any old exams or other materials on ARES. For help with using ARES, check with the front desk or reference desk at the library.
