as we graduate from one of the world’s preeminent centers of legal education, we feel proud of what we have achieved here and what NYU School of Law has accomplished. Even during our brief tenure, we have seen what great strides have taken place: high-level visits from abroad, including various heads of state; frequent events that bring together alumni and students to address the current salient issues affecting the law and society; as well as the expansion of our Law School campus with the completion of 22 Washington Square North and Wilf Hall.
In 2004, NYU School of Law’s graduating students formalized an important tradition of giving back to our school by creating a class graduation gift. This annual tradition is now our responsibility. NYU School of Law has a significantly smaller endowment than our peer institutions. While a portion of the operating expenses of the Law School are covered by tuition and fees, the rest of the expenses must be covered by charitable giving. Vital programs such as LRAP, PILC grants and financial aid, as well as day-to-day expenses such as library maintenance, student journals and faculty salaries, depend on the support of our donors. If our goal is to lead other top-tier schools, we must show our support to the programs that make this institution great.
