Presenter’s Notes Cooking Jeopardy Purpose: • To enhance knowledge of food safety, making food for baby, cooking terms and cooking tips. • To encourage group participation.

Activity contents: • 20 question/answer cards • 1 erasable marker • 1 Jeopardy board (generic board provided to all Healthy Baby programs May 2015) How to use the activity: 1. Use each of the four color coded categories to focus on: o

Cooking Terms

o

Cooking Tips

o

Food Safety

o

Making Food for Baby

2. Use an erasable marker to write each category on the laminate cards at the top of each column. Choose 5 questions from each category. Place the questions inside the pockets of each column.

Presenter’s Notes (continued) 3.

Encourage one participant to choose a category and point value. Read the question aloud to the group.

4.

Example: Food Safety for 10 points. What will tell if your food is safely cooked?

5.

Game ends when there are no more cards in the pockets or time permitting.

6.

Tally points to determine winner.

Other Information: • For larger groups (10 or more) you can divide the room into teams. If working in a team, any team member can answer the question. If one team incorrectly answers, the other team can answer and get the points. The team that did not score in the previous round chooses the next category and point value. • For smaller groups, all questions can be answered as a group. If working as a group, any member can answer. Point scoring does not need to be used. For Key Messages: •

Ask participants what they learned that was surprising or that they will remember.

Other ways to use the activity: • Each of the cooking categories can be used by itself or as a “nugget”. One or more questions can be discussed as time and interest allows.
