My favorite thing about working for myself is the flexibility. If I chose to work a 9-5 type of job I’m sure I’d

Everyone's definition of "healthy eating" is different. To me, I just focus on being a normal eater.

adapt, but I work much better when I’m not being told when / what to do. All that to say, no 2 weeks really

Someone who eats everything and has no food

look alike for me so I thought i’d pop in with another Day in the Life post.

7:15am: Woke-up when Andrew was leaving for work. I slept horribly. In the past 2 weeks I started having back pain. It got bad enough that I saw my OB and she’s referred me to a prenatal chiropractor. I spent most of the night tossing – turning – leaning on a heating pad – stretching my back in pigeon pose. Walking for more than 15 minutes at one time is out of the question right now. I was meeting a friend for breakfast soon, so I spent 30 minutes easing into my day. Currently my morning routine involves a bible study (my bible study = listen to a sermon podcast while writing down my own notes. I’ve never been a fan of bible studies that ask you questions and you write out your response…it always felt forced like homework. That’s not how I learn. So I figured out something that works for me.) My morning routines are constantly evolving. Sometimes I have clients early in the morning, but lately I haven’t been choosing to scheduling anyone then.

On the way to breakfast I dropped off a package at USPS. I’m selling some of my past bridesmaid dresses on Poshmark and had to ship one to its new owner. Have you ever sold anything with them? I found it super easy.

8:30am: Meet my friend Emily for breakfast at Morningstar. I’m on a biscuit kick and Emily let me pick the place. So Morningstar (again) it was!

10:15am: After breakfast I went and moved in the pool for a bit. I feel zero back or knee pain in the pool and I love being in the water. The pool is one of those infinity pools with a current you can turn on and swim against. Sometimes I rotate between freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke…there is a mirror on the bottom of the pool and I love being able to watch my pregnant belly in the water :) Sometimes I just put on a podcast and tread water (the pool is in a private area, so I can put on music or a podcast…which is great!). Sometimes I just float.

Being in the pool really eased the back pain. Andrew’s thought was that the swimming allowed my back to decompress. I’m looking forward to the chiropractor appt to see her thoughts on everything. Last night I was even able to stand to make dinner, which hasn’t happened in a couple weeks. 11am: Lunch. ICE COLD orange juice + peanut noodle filled spring rolls + soy sauce.

12:15pm: Headed to the office. I had back to back clients that afternoon and even though I wasn’t hungry right then, I knew I wouldn’t have a relaxing break for a snack, so I stopped by Menchie’s for some froyo.

1pm-6pm: Clients! It was a rainy, overcast day and my office felt so cozy.

In other news. I have a pimple on my left cheek that I “tried to make better.” (lol that never works.) But now I know what it’d be like to have a mole on my face! I don’t think I would mind it. I’ve always been a person who finds freckles super attractive on people and wouldn’t mind having more!

6:20pm: HOME. Andrew offered to cook us omelets for dinner, but I wasn’t feeling eggs. So I just had him preheat the oven for me while I was on my drive home and I made us salads with crunchy chickpeas, a grain mix of farro + oats + barley, grapes, goat cheese, and a homemade olive oil + mustard vinaigrette. Over the past 3 years I’ve experimented a lot with diet drinks and if I want to drink them / why I want to drink them. In my ED I choose them out of a fear for calorie containing drinks, so I took a break from them for a bit and challenged myself with other drinks that contained calories / energy. Now I drink bubbly diet drinks when I want them and I drink juice / lattes / regular soda when I want those things…and neither feel like a big deal. I crave different drinks at different times and it works!

6:45pm: Eat dinner with Andrew. Talk about our days. 7:30pm-9pm: Andrew worked on a project outside (paining the garage ceiling) while he did a workout in the garage (quite the multi-tasker hehe) and I worked some more on blog / private practice stuff. I’ve always preferred working in the evenings rather than working in the mornings. I like easing into my mornings and don’t like having to jump on my computer first thing. 9pm: Shower + chocolate milk snack…

9:30pm: Private practice work…billing, insurance filing, organizing, writing notes. Typed up this blog post.

11:45pm-ish: Had another snack, then off to bed. I haven’t been sleeping well recently in pregnancy so I haven’t been excited about / making an effort to go to bed earlier. That was my Wednesday! Today I’m dropping Maggie off for a temperament test at a local dog boarding / daycare facility. She usually stays with my parents when we go out of town, but I want to make sure we have a Plan B set up for when baby girl gets here just in case. I’ve also got a dentist appointment, a monthly call with all of these really great ladies and some afternoon / evening clients. Happy Thursday everybody!

Kylie, awesome post! I liked your reframing of the zit into the mole ;) I will use that from now on. I may even fully commit and color over it with some brown eye-liner. ;) Can I ask what sermons you listen to? I like Tim Keller, but I think I have listened to most of them already. I like to listen to sermons when I do some slow yoga or walk my dog. I normally do SheReadsTruth in the morning, which is great because you can just click on the bible references instead of looking every one up by hand. I am totally going to recreate your grain/crispy chickpea/salad dinner – thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Alisha! I usually just listen to sermon podcasts from local churches that I like…since I can’t attend them all on Sunday lol. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/ecclesia-houston-weekend-podcastand-liturgy/id667216110?mt=2&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 (our church) https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/houstons-first-baptistchurch/id260758635 https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/bayou-city-fellowshipsermon/id471812715

I also think freckles are super adorable, I’ve always been so jealous of people who get all freckle-y in the sun!

So sorry to hear about your back! I kept up my chiropractic adjustments all throughout my pregnancy and had no back issues whatsoever so I highly recommend it. I hope it helps for you!

What a lovely day! I find people’s routines so interesting. I’m the opposite and love getting everything done in the morning because I feel like I can’t really relax if I have work later / somewhere I have to be. Would you mind sharing what sermon podcast you listen to?

Oh, awesome!! I will totally check them out, especially after your next post on stillness! I really related to stranger, enemy, friend – and just like you described, when I confront the enemy, I freak out and go back to stranger. Sigh. Time to push through to get to friend. Thank you for your helpful and thoughtful posts, as always.
