MARCH 2012

B u i l d i n g S u p p o r t f o r Is r a e l f r o m C o a s t t o C o a s t

Dear CUFI Supporters

March was an historic month for Christians United for Israel. While we were visiting Israel, we officially surpassed the one million member mark. We had the pleasure of announcing this achievement at an event in Jerusalem with Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who congratulated us on this “unbelievable number.”

One million members. That makes us by far the largest pro-Israel organization in America. We certainly have much to be proud of. But at the same time, we clearly have much work left to do. The fact remains that there are millions of potentially pro-Israel Christians in America who are not yet CUFI members and who therefore aren’t effectively making their voices heard on behalf of Israel. That’s exactly why we’ve continued to press forward full steam ahead. In the month of March, we held 43 pro-Israel events in towns and cities across America. These events helped bring in new members, as well as educate our existing members on how to stand with Israel in their churches, communities and before their leaders. While growing our numbers in absolute terms, we’ve also sought to grow more diverse through our African American outreach and our CUFI Espanol program. As you’ll see, these efforts also bore fruit in March. In fact, two of our largest events this month were held at African-American churches.

On March 11th, Archbishop LeRoy Bailey, Jr, welcomed over 2,500 guests to a Night to Honor Israel at the First Cathedral Church in Bloomfield Connecticut. Pastor John Hagee and Senator Joseph Lieberman shared the stage as keynote speakers. And on March 25, Pastor Ron Hill hosted a Night to Honor Israel at his Love and Unity Christian Fellowship Church in Compton, California. He was joined on the stage by Rev. Dr. DeeDee Coleman, Pastor of the Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, and David Siegel, Consul General of Israel to the Southwestern United States. Together, we can have more months like March! With your continued help, we can keep going from strength to strength! Given the times in which we live, we have no alternative.

plans to attend the CUFI Washington Summit July 16 – 18 this year. After attending the event Stephanie from Fitzgerald, GA wrote, “I have been interested in these events since I joined CUFI in 2009. I am so happy that I went to the meeting on Tuesday and became familiar with other people in Georgia who are excited about standing with Israel. Just listening to Victor tell of Israel’s story made me want to find ways I could help Jewish people. CUFI has taught me so much about the conflicts Israel has endured and how other nations have stood by silently and watched them be persecuted and accused falsely. I want to help change the feelings of loneliness and distrust Jewish people have lived with for so long. Thank you to CUFI for organizing and informing Christians about the propaganda against the Jewish nation of Israel. Thank you for helping us understand what we can do to help Israel. I want to stand with CUFI and show the world that the Jewish people are to be respected and honored. The Jewish nation needs help from Christians around the world and I want to help CUFI get that support for these worthy people who God loves so much.”

Gospel recording artist, JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise led the attendees with song and filled the church with celebration along with special guest and 2011 Grammy Award Nominee, Neshama Carlebach.

Archbishop LeRoy Bailey, Jr., lead pastor at The First Cathedral and a 2011 recipient of the Anti-Defamation League’s Greater Hartford Torch of Liberty Award, served as the event’s master of ceremonies. Speaking of the Jewish people, Bailey said “You are our friends. Our fathers taught us this when we were children. We love and thank God for choosing you to light our lamp of faith in the Lord we have chosen.” During his remarks, Senator Joseph Lieberman discussed the importance of Christians and Jews working together in support of Israel, and the impact CUFI’s efforts were having in Washington. “Senators Bob Casey, Lindsey Graham and I introduced a bipartisan resolution last month that explicitly rules out a strategy of containment for Iran and reaffirms that the U.S. has a vital national interest in preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclearweapons capability. We then gained the critical support of CUFI which sent out an Action Alert to its national members encouraging them to

Senator Lieberman also said that “I think God said, “I need a force to stand against the enemies of Israel and He rose up Pastor John Hagee and Christians United For Israel!” – Senator Joseph Lieberman Thoughts from people who attended this historic event:

This evening reminded me of all that is good and just in this great country. We stood as one, indifferent to race or religion, unified for one common goal, supported by the force of G-d. One could feel the energy. Last night should be the kind of news that the media should report on. The Night to Honor Israel was something that I will remember forever. The love and support for Israel that I felt in that room was awe inspiring. It was evident that the Jewish people are not alone, that through the hard work and faith of the founders of CUFI that we are indeed being supported. For the first time in my life, as a Jew, I knew in my heart that we were not alone. -Barbara from Stamford, CT

My experience tonight that I received was information about a nation that so many people came out to support God’s Chosen people. It was people from all walks of life. I loved it! -Theresa from East Hartford, CT It was an honor and privilege to partake in the glorious night of honor to Israel at Connecticut’s first CUFI event. The Christians and Jews united in worship was the most inspirational and spiritual fulfillment in my experience. The glory of God was in that place. I look forward very much for the next CUFI event nearby. -Manuel from Waterbury, CT As a Jew and Israeli, I have often felt alone, hated, and abandoned by the surrounding world...for the first time I witnessed proof to the contrary. -Jerome from Ledard, CT

It was just a honor for me and my wife to be present in the same building with such a group of wonderful people who love the Lord and the Jewish people as a Christian I want to be part of that blessing that God promised to us about doing all that we can to help out the nation of Israel. -Jeremiahs from East Haven, CT It was a very awesome experience. I wanted to shout louder and longer in support of Israel. I was especially excited because I got to actually see in person, a Pastor that I so very much appreciate and has inspired me in God’s Word since 1994. I have been enlightened more about the State of Israel through the teachings of Pastor John Hagee, and encouraged mightily to be more in support for God’s Chosen People. I am very honored to always support the Nation of Israel and hope to be more actively involved spreading good and encouraging, and truthful news about how great and beneficial it is for any nation to be in support of the Apple of God’s Eye, the Nation of Israel. This gathering, I believe, was very informative to many who may only hear negative information and/or propaganda about Israel. -Mildred from Saratoga Springs, NY.

March 13, 2012 Pastors’ and Ministry Leaders’ Luncheon Meeting in Detroit, MI The CUFI Pastors’ and Leaders’ Luncheon in Detroit, MI on Tuesday, March 13 was one of the most emotional and moving of luncheon meetings to date for Pastor Mike Stevens. Attendees wept and cried during the very significant pro-Israel presentation given. One attendee in particular wept as she asked after the presentation what more she could do to help the Jewish community and CUFI. Approximately 20 Pastors and church leaders participated in the unusually warm winter day in Detroit. As a local Detroit resident, CUFI on Campus Eastern Coordinator, David Walker joined the event and shared concerning the college campus scene.

The host pastor, Pastor Marlin Reid, was “wowed” by the information and revelation shared concerning the Biblical mandate to stand with and support Israel. Pastor Reid is considered a national evangelist that speaks in large Christian crowds all over the country. Being in the largest Muslim area in the U.S., Pastor Reid committed to doing more than just praying for the Jewish community locally… he asked to be considered for both the scholarship opportunity to attend the 2012 D.C. Summit as well as the Israel Familiarization trip in December led by Pastor Stevens. Others made the commitment to attend the 2012 D.C. Summit.

March 13, 2012 Pastors’ and Ministry Leaders’ Luncheon Meeting in Vineyard Haven, MA

We gathered at Martha’s Vineyard Bible Church in Vineyard Haven, MA for their very first Christians United For Israel event in the community. An afternoon gathering of 15 pastors and leaders carried over into an evening event with over 50 attendees from local churches in the area. CUFI City Director, Chris DeMello wrote the following report:

“My parents came to the CUFI luncheon, as my mom is interested in what I’m doing and she is very active in her faith. My dad is more of a rational mind and questions spiritual and biblical things. He has always responded to my facts about Israel with arguments such as Israel not being innocent in it all and with empathy for the Palestinians. Also at the luncheon was the elder from my church, who has always been hard on, and unforgiving of Israel. After the event, much to my surprise, I got a call from the elder wanting to talk about seeing how many people we could get to go to D.C. and to see if we could get the church to help pay to make that happen! Later that night I spoke with my mom to make sure they made it home safe and she told me that she was talking with my dad to see what he thought of your message. To our great surprise, my dad said he could see himself going to D.C.. HE PAID HIS REGISTRATION LAST WEEK!!!” Shelia from East Falmouth, MA wrote, “I believe

this was a pivotal moment for Cape Cod, beginning with this important meeting.”

March 14, 2012 CUFI Español Night to Honor Israel Event in Garland, TX Wednesday evening was a historical night for Garland, TX as we celebrated the first Hispanic night to Honor Israel in that city. One hundred and seventy-five Church of God in Christ leaders--Bishops, Senior Pastors and executive church ministers, filled the moderate size conference room to hear about the unique and unprecedented relationship between Israel and the AfricanAmerican community. A very passionate and strong motivation was given to why Israel and the Jewish community must be fully

Overview of CUFI’s March Events supported by the Christian African-American church. Pastors and leaders expressed an extreme gratefulness and appreciation for the “connection” made when hearing the personal testimony of the African-American Outreach Coordinator, Pastor Michael A. Stevens, and his love for Israel and the Jewish people.

Because of the great familiarity between Pastor Stevens and his denominational colleagues, the event wonderfully turned into very passionate driven presentation where valuable connections were formed. Many pastors could easily identify with Pastor Stevens as the pro-Israel story resonated with them and their Biblical understanding and background.

Days later, the host pastor called Pastor Stevens to inform him that many, many people were still talking about the success of the event. Since the luncheon, several invitations by other attending pastors have opened doors for CUFI to return to the St. Louis area for additional pro-Israel teachings and presentations.

March 22, 2012 CUFI on Campus Standing With Israel Event in Nashville, TN

The threats to Israel on America’s campuses and universities are nationwide… and right next door. That is the message that CUFI’s top student leaders from Vanderbilt University, University of Tennessee Knoxville and the University of Tennessee Chattanooga brought to 40 concerned community members at this recent Standing with Israel event focused on CUFI on Campus. National Campus Coordinator Jeremiah Nasiatka spoke on the importance of supporting Israel, and the war of delegitimization and demonization that Israel is facing on university campuses across America. Each of the student leaders also shared their personal experiences and left the audience inspired and ready to help the local chapters prepare for several large events this spring including a Night to Honor Israel at Vanderbilt University and a city-wide pro-Israel rally in Nashville.

March 22, 2012 CUFI on Campus Standing With Israel Event at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI Michigan State University co-hosted along with Hillel the film “Iranium” viewing and discussion.” The event had been scheduled many weeks in advance.

Unfortunately, Michigan State’s basketball team had placed in the NCAA March Madness competition and ended up having a big game on the same night as the showing.

This unavoidable conflict resulted in having only nine people show up for the screening. After showing the movie, the chapter decided to reschedule the showing and discussion for a later date in the near future. After hosting close to 100 students at its kick-off event a few months earlier, the chapter is confident it can pull in a stronger audience on a date that doesn’t interfere with a popular college basketball night.

In a region often associated with anti-Israel sentiment, interest in learning about Israel, the Middle East and CUFI and attendance of

the presentation on the Jewish homeland was overwhelmingly positive. CUFI has become a staple and familiar presence over the last several years at the conference, one of the largest ministry conferences in the U.S.

Brooks called the event “one of the most powerful and important” annual events in the area. March 25, 2012 Night to Honor Israel Event in Compton, CA

On Sunday evening, March 25, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nations largest pro-Israel organization, hosted a Night to Honor Israel at the Love and Unity Christian Fellowship Church in Compton, CA. This significant event was led by CUFI’s AfricanAmerican Outreach Coordinator, Pastor Michael A. Stevens. For the first time, CUFI’s Night To Honor Israel was organized and conducted by the African-American Outreach Department. “What made this event even more significant was the fact that it was held in Compton, which was once the murder capital of America. Compton has also been regarded as one of the leading and influential African-American communities in the nation,” said Stevens. Dr. Ron Hill, Senior Pastor, served as the master of ceremonies of this memorable event for the African-American church and community. He was joined on the stage by Rev. Dr. DeeDee Coleman, Pastor of the Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, and David Siegel, Consul General of Israel to the Southwestern United States. Much planning and collaboration for the successful Night To Honor Israel event was accomplished several weeks prior with the local Jewish rabbis and leaders.

Approximately 300 people, mainly from the African-American community, came out to show their love and support for the Jewish community as well as learn about continued efforts in building Jewish advocacy. Pastors, ministry leaders and laypersons alike celebrated their passion for standing with Israel and the Jewish community. Stevens expressed,, “Our efforts have received an

He adds, “Though we’re seen singing and ushering in the celebration and solidarity events, there’s so much more we as African-American church leaders and members can do to express our love and commitment to the Jewish community,” said Stevens.

March 26, 2012 CUFI Standing With Israel Event in Tacoma, WA

Over 600 people, some from as far as four hours away, attended CUFI’s first event in Tacoma, WA. The Standing with Israel meeting was hosted by El Shaddai Ministries, a Christian congregation with an incredibly deep teaching of the Hebraic roots of the Christian faith and an unwavering love for the Jewish State and people. The event served to prepare for the city’s first Night to Honor Israel on August 27 with Pastor John Hagee, hosted by El Shaddai Ministries. In addition to the Standing With Israel Middle East update presented by CUFI Western Regional Coordinator, Randy Neal, the evening also included an overview of CUFI On Campus by Portland State University CUFI On Campus chapter President Josh Ahrens, that gave an inspiring challenge to battle the local anti-Israel BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) campaign in the Pacific Northwest. The entire audience responded enthusiastically to the challenge that whenever a store is targeted for carrying Israeli goods to generously patronize that merchant and thank them for carrying those products. Dozens of attendees raised their hands when asked by Pastor Mark Biltz who would join him in Washington, D.C. this July for CUFI’s seventh annual D.C. Summit, including several colleges.

March 27, 2012 CUFI on Campus Standing With Israel University of California Berkeley

For the first time, CUFI On Campus was able to hold an event within the campus Christian community at UC Berkeley. Western Region Campus Organizer John Winchester successfully orchestrated an event with the leadership of two campus ministries, where he charged them from the Scriptures that Christians should support Israel, and challenged the attendees to be “watchmen” on their campus for Israel. Attendees then spontaneously lead in a prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.

March 27, 2012 Pastors’ and Ministry Leaders’ Luncheon Meeting in Georgetown, DE It was a beautiful day in Georgetown for our Pastors’ Breakfast and Middle East Briefing at Crossroad Community Church. The event brought in leaders from as far away as Philadelphia! After the event, the pastors from Crossroad met with CUFI Eastern Regional Director, Victor Styrsky, and began planning their 1st Annual Night to Honor Israel on May 22 this year followed by our CUFI Israel Sunday on May 20. Their church currently has three weekend services and they are looking at expanding their sanctuary to make room for their growing congregation!

March 28, 2012 CUFI Standing With Israel Event in Seattle, WA

People from near and far braved tumultuous weather to attend a CUFI Standing with Israel Middle East presentation by CUFI Western Regional Coordinator Randy Neal.

The special presentation, “Facts vs. Fiction,” addressed several false allegations commonly used to delegitimize and demonize the Jewish State and people.

Audience members expressed heartfelt appreciation for respectfully confronting the inaccurate, misleading, but often accepted use of terms such as apartheid, refugees, occupation and other words applied cast Israel in a negative and untruthful context.

Linda from Seattle, WA said that “the Standing with Israel event was an excellent way to get a brief and accurate account on what is going on in Israel and the Middle East and how it relates to the U.S. and the rest of the world. I was touched and grateful to know there are so many wonderful people out there standing with us to defend our very important friend in the Middle East, the State of Israel.” Tony from Auburn, WA said “we came to the event already being relatively informed about Biblical, historical and current events in Israel. The speaker provided so much more information that I felt even better prepared to support Israel. I feel that there was a great message that offered concrete ways we could all get involved in making a difference and fighting anti-Semitism.”

March 28, 2012 CUFI on Campus Iranium Screening at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX

Over 70 people crowded into a room designed for 50 to see the powerful documentary, Iranium, at the University of North Texas. Despite the tight quarters, you could’ve heard a pin drop as the film spoke about the threats a nuclear Iran poses to not only Israel, but also the United States. Following the film, National Campus Coordinator Jeremiah Nasiatka, hosted by the CUFI on Campus chapter at the University of North Texas, introduced the audience of students and local community members to CUFI and to the urgent task of

speaking out on behalf of Israel. This event not only strengthened the existing UNT CUFI on Campus chapter, but also opened doors to a potential CUFI on Campus chapter at UT Arlington, as well as several pastors who indicated that they wanted to show Iranium in their churches.

March 28, 2012 CUFI on Campus Standing With Israel Event at Hunter College in New York, NY

Christian Zionism in New York City!! Students at Hunter College were very intrigued to hear CUFI African American Outreach Coordinator Pastor Michael Stevens and Campus Field Organizer Eastern Region, David Walker speak about the tenants of Christian Zionism and the necessity to have pro-Israel support on campus. After the presentation students asked questions that contributed to a healthy discussion regarding the present conditions on campus and how to deal with the aggressors of SJP and the MSA. Students were very interested in starting a CUFI on Campus chapter that in return will contribute to the education and training of pro-Israel Christian Student Leaders. This is the first CUFI Campus event on held at Hunter College campus.

March 28, 2012 CUFI Standing With Israel Event in Washington, D.C.

Students from American University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Regent University and Taylor University attended a “Standing with Israel” lecture at the Rayburn House on Capitol Hill by CUFI Eastern Regional Coordinator, Pastor Victor Styrsky. Several pastors from the area were in the audience of approximately 40 along with other pro-Israel leaders from the community. The college students are working toward bringing a large group of students from the area to the 7th Annual CUFI Washington Summit on July 16-18.

March 29, 2012 CUFI On Campus Standing With Israel California State University Bakersfield

Members of the community in Bakersfield, CA including two Synagogues (Temple Beth El and Congregation B’Nai Jacob) and two Churches (Canyon Hills and Calvary Bible), as well as students from CSU Bakersfield, gathered together at the university’s auditorium to hear CUFI On Campus Western Region Campus Organizer John Winchester give a Middle East Briefing and challenge Israel’s portrayal on campuses around the country. The evening was full of excitement as more than 130 people attended the event, including the Imam from the local Muslim Community Center. The event was organized in response to an anti-Israel speaker brought to the campus by the administration just one month prior. The university’s administration refused to be balanced in their portrayal of Israel in the Middle East, so the community turned to CUFI.

Overview of CUFI’s March Events March 31, 2012 CUFI Español Pastors’ and Ministry Leaders’ Luncheon Meeting in Baytown, TX

Over 30 Pastors and leaders from Baytown, TX got together for the first ever CUFI Pastors’ event in this great city. The event was organized by Fountain Bay Fellowship. CUFI National Hispanic Coordinator, Pastor Carlos Ortiz, was the keynote speaker for the luncheon. The attendees were very excited to have the opportunity to watch a video of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s participation at the 2011 CUFI’s Washington Summit. Baytown is already organizing the First Night to Honor Israel for later this year. b y A ri M orgenstern

Christians United for Israel Crosses Million-Member Mark

In a strong show of support for Israel, Christians United for Israel (CUFI) just crossed the million member mark.

CUFI founder and chairman John Hagee announced the milestone at event in Jerusalem featuring Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Six years ago Prime Minister Netanyahu asked me if we could unite Christians in support of Israel. I told him I didn’t know. Having reached 1 million members, I think the answer is clear. America’s Christians are uniting in support of Israel,” Hagee said.

During his remarks, Netanyahu thanked the group for their support and congratulated CUFI on enlisting 1 million members.

“We are witnessing a dramatic transformation in the relationship between Christians and Jews, who are focusing now on the common values and the common future we both share,” Netanyahu said.

After delivering remarks, CUFI executive director David Brog noted, “With Iran steadily progressing towards a nuclear weapon, and Palestinian terrorists once again reminding the world that they are more concerned with destroying Israel than making peace, I believe that the news of our having crossed the million member threshold could not have come at a more critical juncture. Our first million members is a solid start, but we’ve only just begun.”

One Million Members congressman, to make contribution when necessary.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, left, meeting with Pastor John Hagee, right.

The news will be announced Sunday evening in Jerusalem, when the Prime Minister of Israel will address several hundred new members of Christians United for Israel – the Christian lobby known as CUFI. Pastor John Hagee, the founder leader of the group, will be there, celebrating this achievement. And it is an achievement, no doubt. Just two years ago, the 500,000 mark was passed, with some fanfare. Now it has doubled.

I covered the launch of CUFI just a few years ago, and it is now by far the largest proIsrael organization in the US. Like it or hate it – as some still do - ignoring it is no longer an option. Not for Israel’s government (this was never really in doubt: Israel will take whatever support it can get), not for other pro-Israel lobbies (as Nathan Guttman aptly put it: “the shofar-blowing, hora-dancing Christian evangelicals are now an integral part of the pro-Israel advocacy scene”), not for Congressional legislators. One million members mean that many Congressmen and women have a lot of CUFI members in their districts, ready to take action. Have something to say about this? Join the debate at Rosner’s Domain on Facebook

CUFI has members in all 50 states, it hold dozens of events every month in every corner of the US. In Washington, its annual conference attracts more than 5,000 participants. It is powerful and growing stronger, even though a word of caution is advised: A member of CUFI only has to sign on and give an active email address – no dues involved. But the leaders of CUFI say that such emails are what make CUFI’s potential impact. Behind the active emails there are active supporters, ready to send a letter, to attend a rally, to call a

True, most of it, if not all, are of the Republican electorate and legislative arm. The Republican Jewish Coalition has just released a statement on the “growing Israel gap” between Republican and Democrats (78% of Republicans sympathize with Israel compared to 53% of Democrats – this is a problem I’ve written about quite a lot in the past), and the power of CUFI is yet another sign of the strong support for Israel among America’s right wing voters. That many Jews in American don’t feel comfortable with Evangelical support for Israel is also not exactly new. Some of them do not like CUFI’s embrace because of theological fears, others because of political differences.

When CUFI was established, Hagee’s second in command, David Brog, explained to me in a long interview why Christian Evangelicals support Israel (read it here) but readily acknowledged that “it is very hard for Jews to believe that Christians have suddenly embraced philo-Semitism in an honest and sincere way”. As for politics, this might be an even more challenging barrier.  Most Jews in America – including many staunchly pro-Israel Jews – still support President Barack Obama. And Hagee doesn’t always make it easy for them to see him as an ally in defending Israel. Last summer, in CUFI’s Washington gathering, the pastor insisted that “President Obama is not pro-Israel”. My book covers with some detail an exchange of verbal fire between Pastor Hagee and Rabbi Eric Yoffie, then leader of the American Jewish Reform movement. Yoffie wanted Jews to stop cooperating with the Hagee organization: Mr Hagee’s uneasy relations with American Jews were an accident waiting to happen. They never felt comfortable with his support for Israel, never really accepted him as part of the “camp”. We cannot cooperate with the Christian Zionists, said Rabbi Yoffie, because theirs is not “unconditional support for the Jewish

state”, but rather support for a certain political agenda — one that is unacceptable to Rabbi Yoffie. But Hagee, time and again, denies such allegations. My support for Israel, he told me when I interviewed him in San Antonio when CUFI was still more a dream than reality, is not conditioned on Israel’s policies:

What would his Christian lobby do in such a case? How would it react? Hagee has a prepared response to that question as well. No, he would not help advance decisions that would speed up an evacuation [of settlements], yet he would not stand in their way. In any event, he would never dream of actively opposing the Israeli government. He cites the example of an Israeli hospital that began performing abortions. What did Hagee do? He simply transferred his support to another institution. That is how he will act if settlements and territories are evacuated. He can always help orphanages, hospitals and needy communities in Israel. He will find the right worthy cause and his support for Israel will continue. Bottom line: Israel cannot afford to be picky with friends. It needs them. That some of these friends have views that not all Israelis support is obvious, and natural. With so many of them on board, ready to be actively supportive makes it even more important for Israel to show appreciation for their efforts. Prime Minister Netanyahu will do just that Sunday evening. Reprinted with the permission of The Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles

Christians United for Israel

Third Jerusalem Summit Christian United for Israel’s third Jerusalem Summit was blessed of God in every way. The hundreds of Christians from around the world who traveled with us were additionally blessed by bringing comfort to the Jewish people.

The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu came to the Inbal hotel on Sunday, March 18th and spoke to over 800 CUFI members. The Prime Minister told us “Thank you for standing up for Israel. We are witnessing a dramatic transformation in the relationship between Christians and Jews, who are focusing now on the common values and the common future we both share.” The Prime Minister congratulated us on surpassing one million members. On the morning of Monday, March 19th we gathered at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem, to commemorate the six million Jewish people that were murdered in the Holocaust. Our CUFI members held a moment of silence for the men, women, and children who were killed by the Nazi regime. As we sat in silence overlooking the hills of Jerusalem our hearts mourned for our Jewish brothers and sisters who never lived to see their homeland. On Monday afternoon we held a solidarity rally through the streets of downtown Jerusalem. All 800 CUFI members with American and Israeli flags walked in unison down Ben Yehuda Street demonstrating our support of Israel and the Jewish people. We were accompanied by drummers singing Israeli songs. People came out of their stores, apartments, and even dentist offices to watch our march. They told us our support inspired and comforted them during these difficult days.
