Dear Friends in Christ, As we begin this new year of 2009, we take into it the dreams and prayers of all those in ministry who wait to see God moving in their lives and areas of service. Having this diary to lead us week by week allows us to carry out the privilege and responsibility of praying for other people; people we don’t even know. Such is the power of prayer that we are called to bring each other in the body of Christ before Him. God is only too willing to hear and respond to our prayer, so when we bring people, ministries and countries before Him He is waiting to bring about the answers required in each circumstance. Our theme for this year is ‘One thing: win the world for Jesus’. What does this mean for you, in your setting? What does it mean for this Territory? As we listen to God and respond to Him each day, He will work out this vision in us. Let’s begin with our world and then include the rest of the world. Join with Carolyn and me as we take on this vision – One thing – Win the World for Jesus. We pray with you, trusting God for His working in our lives. May you be richly blessed as you serve Him in prayer with the aid of this diary. Jim and Carolyn Knaggs Commissioners Territorial Leaders "When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I'll listen. "When you come looking for me, you'll find me. "Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed." GOD's Decree.” Jeremiah 29:12-14

Dear Friends, A new year dawns, with it the hope and prayer that all ministries within this territory and around The Salvation Army world would be effective. The corps, centres and ministries within this territory and across the world have aspects of prayer and praise for our prayer response. Keep in your prayers the people who work day by day to minister to others in Jesus’ name; in whatever ministry they have been placed. Each needs to be held in prayer to accomplish what God would have them do, to further His Kingdom. I hope in using this diary that you will not only be blessed, but will feel a part of the larger army and the many forms of ministry that are being carried out in God’s name through The Salvation Army. Throughout these pages are snippets from Commissioner James Knaggs’ book “One Day”, a book that deserves to be read by us all. It contains a vision for the future of this great territory, and so a section from the book is included in every week. In ‘Applauding this Dream’ the General writes:

“Let the prayers of all Salvationists uphold those working to achieve every aspect of the vision. I firmly believe that one day it will truly come, and this sooner than we might expect if God is given his way among us. Work on, pray on, keeping your faith high in the power of the Lord.” Blessings,

Shaw Clifton, General.

Despite the shortage of officers in the Territory, we thank God for the expansion we are experiencing in the evangelical work of The Salvation Army. “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth – you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.” 2 Chronicles 6:14 Vision 2: “That every soldier, young and old would be sanctified through and through…and out of passion of their love in Christ, would be an undeniable force for God’s love in the world.” To ‘sanctify’ literally means to set apart for a special use or purpose. The Salvation Army believes that young and old alike can be sanctified – set apart for God. Lieutenant Colonel Pam Trigg

Pray that God will bring a sense of urgency for extending his Kingdom to each corps member and that they will be motivated to be personally involved in mission, and that God will continue to bless our community service and open doors just as He did in 2008. Also, that Cadets Greg and Lynne Turnbull (our cadets), will be affirmed in their calling as they approach their final year of training. Praise points: We thank God for His provision that, in so many ways, has been beyond words. He enabled the purchase of the adjoining land to be completed smoothly and provided the finances needed. He spoke to the hearts of the owners of a local indoor play centre, who sadly closed the doors of their business, but donated much of the indoor play equipment/tables/chairs/computer games/TV's to the Corps (we pray for God's blessing on their lives). Lives are being changed and the community impacted. God has blessed our new Friday night congregation "encounter" in so many ways and has answered so many prayers. He called one of our valued soldiers to officership and has opened the way for us to minister through chaplaincy at a local primary school. He is clearly setting things up for what we believe will be an awesome 2009 for the Corps. GOD IS GREAT!

When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves.” Matthew 5:43 Vision 2: “That every soldier, young and old would be sanctified through and through…and out of passion of their love in Christ, would be an undeniable force for God’s love in the world.” To ponder: What will The Salvation Army look like when every soldier is sanctified and passionate about bringing the love of Christ to their world? "In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.” Matthew 6:14

Vision 3: “That this love would be seen between each soldier to demonstrate God has sent his son into the world not to condemn it, but that the world through him might be saved…and by this would all people know that we are his followers and represent him.” ’Are these the ongoing words we as a Christian community embrace and ‘say’ to each other through acceptance, forgiveness, love, and kindness in our attitudes and actions? Women’s ministries: Pray that the good programs we have in place will be taken seriously. That our women (a large percentage of the total Army) will grow as a result of these programs and thus help change the church. Spiritual growth in the Territory: Pray that as we continue to experience a steady growth in numbers, that we will also see a steady spiritual growth in the Territory. Pray that the teachings undertaken will bear fruit.

Meditation

“When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there." Matthew 18:18

Vision 3: “That this love would be seen between each soldier to demonstrate God has sent his son into the world not to condemn it, but that the world through him might be saved…and by this would all people know that we are his followers and represent him.” Salvation and healing originate from the same root word. In fact, an early translator of the Bible used the word ‘Healing’ throughout scripture. Is this not ‘The Dream’? Meditation “God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves…and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” Romans 8:26

Vision 3: “That this love would be seen between each soldier to demonstrate God has sent his son into the world not to condemn it, but that the world through him might be saved…and by this would all people know that we are his followers and represent him.” To ponder: Personally, or in a small group, explore with a Bible concordance the references to ‘love’ from John’s gospel. Reflect on each passage and apply it to yourself. Lieutenant Colonel Carl Schmidtke

Week Commencing Sunday March 15 Cranbourne (Eastern Victoria)—Captains Peter and Karen Walker Praise God: Pray for:

For new people who have been coming to faith in Christ. Energy, vision and passion in fulfilling Christ's mission in our community. Our Companion Club team ministry as it continues to grow and have further influence in our community. Our youth and children's ministries as they endeavour to connect effectively with our community. Effective leadership development within the corps and for us to become more effective in growing disciples of Jesus.

Bairnsdale (Eastern Victoria)—Lieutenants Steven and Kim Haworth Prayer Points: For the Community Centre, Cafe staff and volunteers - that they would continue to provide a bridge between the corps and the community, that people's lives would be enriched as they give of themselves through this avenue of ministry. For the corps and those who call it their spiritual home, may it be a place where people can continue to invite their family and friends who may not know Jesus yet. For the young people of the corps - that the youth and children's ministries would continue to grow; also the possible employment of a children's worker to implement and facilitate this growth.

Week Commencing Sunday March 22 Zimbabwe Territory—Commissioners Stanslous and Janet Mutewera (Countries included in this territory: Botswana, Zimbabwe) In conjunction with our five-year Strategic Plan, the Zimbabwe Territory requests prayer support for the following: That the membership of The Salvation Army in Zimbabwe and Botswana would increase by 30% by 2012. That we would not only see growth numerically, but also in the spiritual development and maturity of our Salvationists. That we would increase our territorial financial base by 50% by 2012. That we would outline realistic strategies and deadlines to develop into a self-reliant territory. That every corps, centre and institution would be mission-focused and that we would have an integrated mission approach to all Salvation Army ministries. That emergency response teams would be established in all divisions by 2012. That we would develop a competency-based human resources management system. That we would have a territorial information technology infrastructure by 2012. That the economic and political instability in Zimbabwe would be resolved peacefully.

Overseas and Exchange Personnel Majors Geoff and Kalie Webb, Lahore—PAKISTAN Meditation

“Go after a life of love as if your life depended on it—because it does. Give yourselves to the gifts God gives you. Most of all, try to proclaim his truth…when you proclaim his truth in everyday speech, you're letting others in on the truth so that they can grow and be strong and experience his presence with you.” 1 Corinthians 14:1

Vision 4: ‘That our love would be seen through intentional and overt acts of mercy and justice, all the while in humility before God, not needing to publish our works, only doing them to glorify God.” The reign of God is at hand. Our role is to show that the world has indeed been saved. The Salvation Army and all its soldiers exist to embody the reign of God and to live out its reality. Simon Reeves

Pray for the effectiveness of the new Mission Board.

Carlton (Melbourne Central)—Captain Brian Crowden Salvo Care Line Telephone Counselling (Western Australia)—Major Louisa Timmer and team We need prayer for Christian volunteers - needing at least 50 to be well staffed; only have 13 at present. That Salvationists and other Christians will be willing to volunteer. At present, except for the manager, there are no Salvationists working on the line as staff or volunteers. Pray for the emotional health of the staff as the work can be stressful. That attempting to link regular callers into Corps, or other churches, will relieve their loneliness and dependency on the line for social interaction. Active caring versus passive caring, it is much easier to just listen than to try to actively work with them. That corps will be willing to accept those we refer to them - many are on the fringe of society, some have mental health issues, others have difficulty with social interaction.

Give thanks for many people around the world who support the work with their prayers and sponsorship. Pray for strength, wisdom and protection for officers and others in exposed and challenging appointments. Pray for the financial resources needed to maintain and extend the work. Pray that the dedicated work being done in many of the country's most needy communities may have a profound, transforming effect on the people, combating crime, trafficking and ignorance - giving the people real hope for the future.

Overseas and Exchange Personnel Majors Jim and Marion Weymouth, Training College—ZAMBIA

Meditation

“Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You'll need them throughout your life. God's Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.” Ephesians 6:13

Vision 4: “That our love would be seen through intentional and overt acts of mercy and justice, all the while in humility before God, not needing to publish our works, only doing them to glorify God.” How do we do that? We engage in intentional and overt acts of mercy and justice, not to save the world, not to please our egos, but because this is whom we have become by following Jesus. Mercy and justice become the air we breathe. Simon Reeves

Here at Bentley Corps we are privileged to see the Holy Spirit at work in the lives of a number of people who have had their first contact with the corps through our community outreach program. That there will be a sense of excitement in the Territory as God's people are being spiritually renewed. That decision will be guided by our faith-based values and mission effectiveness. That we will acknowledge that relationships and people are more important than buildings and programs. Meditation Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life. Philippians 4:6

Vision 4: “That our love would be seen through intentional and overt acts of mercy and justice, all the while in humility before God, not needing to publish our works, only doing them to glorify God.” “Jesus says, ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice’ and ‘blessed are the merciful’ (Matt 5:6-7). To hunger and thirst is to daily seek justice as we would food and drink. Doing justice is not one great thing we do once in our lives, or when we put on a uniform or when we clock on at our social centres, it is a normal, daily existence. It is doing small daily acts with great love.” Simon Reeves

Pray for our young people to respond to God's call to Salvation Army officership, with limited progress on this matter it continues to be a prayer priority. We thank God for the 10 cadets who entered training and are to be commissioned this year; six of these are from Haiti. We continue to pray for more candidates particularly from the English speaking areas of the Caribbean. We thank God for the degree of harmony and the unity that exists within the 15 countries of the Territory, as 'together we build tomorrow today'. We thank God for the greater degree of stability in Haiti. However, there is unrest and violence across the Caribbean in these days. It is a matter of earnest prayer that people will desire and work for peace in these lands. The Territorial Commander has called all Salvationists to pray constantly for peace. “My theme song is God's love and justice, and I'm singing it right to you, God. Meditation

“I call out at the top of my lungs, "God! Answer! I'll do whatever you say." I called to you, "Save me so I can carry out all your instructions." I was up before sunrise, crying for help, hoping for a word from you. I stayed awake all night, prayerfully pondering your promise. In your love, listen to me; in your justice, God, keep me alive.” Psalm 119:145

Vision 4: “That our love would be seen through intentional and overt acts of mercy and justice, all the while in humility before God, not needing to publish our works, only doing them to glorify God.” “While justice is pursued, we equally seek mercy. Mercy is what makes justice real. If we cannot offer mercy to our own family, friends, neighbours, and especially those who’ve hurt us, then we cannot rightly pursue justice. Thomas Merton described God as ‘Mercy within mercy within mercy.” Simon Reeves

Week Commencing Sunday April 19 Armadale (Western Australia)—Captain Michelle Myles Ballarat Community Church and Family Support Services (Western Victoria)—Captains Dean and Jenni Sutton Praise Points: The change of the corps name has resulted in unchurched people connecting with our worshipping community, and cemented the wonderful integration that has taken place over the past few years between the former Ballarat Corps and Ballarat Community Support Services. Thank God for the evidence of his working in people's lives; both in respect of coming to know Christ and growing in Spiritual maturity. Praise God for the way that 'Coffee Talk' has extended the engagement we have with people coming for assistance and for the appointment of a Prayer Coordinator to intentionally change culture both corporately and in relation to people's personal prayer life. Prayer Points: The development of a new vision for the next 3 years to ensure we build on the existing life cycle momentum. Pray for the effective and fruitful commencement of a 2nd worship service and the focus to keep both services missional; the appointment of an Assimilation/Discipleship Pathway Coordinator and the implementation of intentional processes and teams to ensure both these important areas aren't left up to chance.

Vision 4: “That our love would be seen through intentional and overt acts of mercy and justice, all the while in humility before God, not needing to publish our works, only doing them to glorify God.” “Each of us has the potential for mercy or no mercy, to work for justice or create injustice, to save a life or kill. This is the most frightening part of our humanity, but also the one that gives us the most hope. We are to do justice and seek mercy because of who we are, individually and as The Salvation Army.” Simon Reeves

Pray for the human trafficking problems, especially in Ecuador. Pray for the impulse of the Holy Spirit to go out in mission. Pray for greater resources, in order to enhance our programs and carry out our mission.

Overseas and Exchange Personnel Captain Kirsty McKenzie —ECUADOR, SOUTH AMERICA WEST TERRITORY Meditation “If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You'll get his help, and won't be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who "worry their prayers" are like wind-whipped waves. Don't think you're going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.” James 1:5 Vision 5: “That our mission would have such integrity that every expression of our ministry would be marked not so much by a red shield or even a crest, but by the love of God for people.” God’s love for people is unconditional; it is beyond measure. God loves with an aching heart; his very essence is love. Loving others should be a natural response to God’s love for us and we demonstrate this through acts of loving kindness and practical concern for one another’s being. Wilma Gallet

“Are you hurting? Pray. Do you feel great? Sing. Are you sick? Call the church leaders together to pray and anoint you with oil in the name of the Master. Believing-prayer will heal you and Jesus will put you on your feet, and if you've sinned, you'll be forgiven—healed inside and out.” James 5:13

Vision 5: “That our mission would have such integrity that every expression of our ministry would be marked not so much by a red shield or even a crest, but by the love of God for people.” Our mission and every expression of Salvation Army ministry and service, is to be a natural outpouring of this love. Giving out of a heart of love means setting aside prejudices and judgemental opinions. It means giving because the other person has a need and not expecting anything in return. Wilma Gallet

“Hallelujah! Thank God! Pray to him by name! Tell everyone you meet what he has done! Sing him songs, belt out hymns, translate his wonders into music! Honour his holy name with Hallelujahs, you who seek God. Live a happy life! Keep your eyes open for God, watch for his works; be alert for signs of his presence. Remember the world of wonders he has made.” Psalm 105:1

Vision 5: “That our mission would have such integrity that every expression of our ministry would be marked not so much by a red shield or even a crest, but by the love of God for people.” The Salvation Army is renowned for its ministry of service and professional social work. All of this must be driven by love for our neighbour. It’s out of this sense of care for our neighbour that we give and serve – not out of organisational or professional pride and/or because we want to grow and expand – but simply because there is a great depth of human need which only the love of God for people can fill. The benefit of having a strong heritage of service in Belgium. Respect for the uniform of The Salvation Army. The freedom for evangelisation. A good reputation and 'name' in public circles.

Challenges to The Salvation Army in Belgium include:

Lack of officer personnel. Issues related to Christian practice (such as the practice of Communion). Insufficient funding for evangelical programs. Having ageing buildings and lack of funding for their proper upkeep.

Overseas and Exchange Personnel Captains Ron and Ellen McMellon, Rural Chaplain, Sth Qld, Corps Officer, Roma Corps—EASTERN TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA.

Meditation

“Seek God while he's here to be found, pray to him while he's close at hand. Let the wicked abandon their way of life and their evil way of thinking. Let them come back to God, who is merciful, come back to our God, who is lavish with forgiveness.” Isaiah 55:6

Vision 5: “That our mission would have such integrity that every expression of our ministry would be marked not so much by a red shield or even a crest, but by the love of God for people.’” Our mission must be hallmarked by this love, it sets us apart and people should feel the difference whether they work for The Salvation Army, worship with us or come to us with needs. There are many people within our community who have struggles in life, who are confronted with daily challenges. All people regardless of their circumstances are deserving of unconditional love and respect. Wilma Gallet

Week Commencing Sunday May 31 Arndale (South Australia)—Majors Peter and Margaret Collins and Envoys Dale and Clare Merrett Kalgoorlie/Boulder (Western Australia)—Captain Lynn Jones Geraldton (Western Australia)—Captains Deidre and Ian Dearing Praise Points: Growth, both spiritually and numerically within the corps and our programs. Our children's programs are attracting new people each week, especially through Mainly Music. Our Drought Relief Worker is out in the community making a real difference to people’s lives. Our Sunday worship service has become so open to the Spirit’s leading that what was once a traditional one-hour meeting is nonexistent as we now live to praise God, no time constraints. Praise God! Prayer Points: More leaders for our children's ministries. Buildings; ours are now too small. Desire to amalgamate all of The Salvation Army services here in the one location; at the moment we operate from three different locations, which is creating problems for us all.

Doncaster (Eastern Victoria)—Majors Colin and Karen Elkington, Captain Dianne Gibbons Northern Victoria Division—Majors Graeme and Karyn Rigley and team Brayton Youth and Family Services (Northern Victoria)—Mark Rumble and team

Includes JPET, youth activities service, young offenders pilot program, strengthening families and sexual abuse prevention programs.

Please continue to uphold the workers and young people here at Brayton Youth and Family Services in Shepparton.

Week Commencing Sunday June 7 Denmark Territory—Colonels Erling and Singe Maelend Our Territorial focus was launched in September 2008 - Building Relationships - upwards to God, outwards to people:

Pray that there will be a helpful sense of understanding and ownership throughout the territory. Integrated Mission has become a primary factor in the Territorial Program in recent years. Pray that God will use the Integrated Mission concept to develop working and missional relationships and to introduce new people to God. Family Workshops. Many families, especially single parent families, who received practical help from the Army are now attending family workshops at various social and corps centres. Fellowship and friendship is the key here, but the Word is also preached in a low key, cringe-free way and people are responding. Pray for the development of these networks: that they might encourage new Christians, new Salvationists, new outreach, new expressions of Salvation Army worship and service. Cadets: Please pray for our 3 cadets who are in their second year of officer training in Oslo.

Overseas and Exchange Personnel Peter and Emma Weymouth, Chikankata Mission, Mazabuka—ZAMBIA

Meditation

“I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I'll listen. When you come looking for me, you'll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed." GOD's Decree. Jeremiah 29:11-13

Vision 5: “That our mission would have such integrity that every expression of our ministry would be marked not so much by a red shield or even a crest, but by the love of God for people.” We are commanded to ‘Love one another just as I have loved you’ – this is not an optional extra. When we serve from a heart of love we see the inner beauty in every individual. We see their inherent worth and the profound spark of the Divine in every created being. Wilma Gallet

Week Commencing Sunday June 7 Leongatha (Eastern Victoria)—Captains Martin and Heather Scrimshaw We are praying for a new building. We have a building in mind that would allow us to relocate the corps and ‘GippsCare’ into the one centre, pray for our finances. We thank God for the growth in the corps and the people that have come into a relationship with Jesus. We praise God for our connection groups and for those who are willing to get involved in Mainly Music and our Kid's Club, we also thank God for our Kid's church which has grown - we now have about 20-25 kids coming along. We continue to pray that people grow in their relationship with Jesus and that we are a corps that is welcoming for the person who is seeking.

Glenroy (Melbourne Central)—Major Geoff Ledger Kununurra Community Outreach Centre (Northern Territory)—Envoys Gillian and Stephen Lefmann Praise Points: Our open-air services to the "long grass" (itinerant drinking) people are well attended. God is working there. For continued good health of the officers. For God's provision for our needs in this place. Prayer Points: For the presence of The Salvation Army in this town. Extra energy during the "build-up" period when the temperatures before the Wet hover around 42 degrees for weeks on end. More people to attend our Sunday evening chapel services. More of our youth group to come to Christ. A special prayer that the officer’s youngest daughter will come back to Christ and bring her daughter with her.

Week Commencing Sunday June 14 Eastern Europe Territory—Commissioners Willem and Netty van der Harst (Countries included in this territory: Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation, Ukraine) Please Pray: For inspiration, honesty, and courage, as all Salvation Army Departments, Corps, and Social Service Units, apply the ‘Strategic Framework’ and the 3 strategic goals to the development and operation of their mission and ministries. For adequate resources to pursue the extension of The Salvation Army's mission in the 4 'New Horizon' corps plants in Kutaisi Georgia, Iasi and Craiova - Romania, and Dnepropetrovsk - Ukraine and Murmansk. For the Holy Spirit to build unity amongst the Salvationists of these five nations as the countries themselves operate as independent countries. For wisdom in planning, courage in implementation and adequate resources in hand to address the AIDS disaster that threatens to kill up to half the population of Russia alone by the year 2040. Praise God: For His continuing goodness and grace as souls are being saved, soldiers are being enrolled, the poor are ministered to and God's Army grows.

Meditation

“I'm praying not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me because of them and their witness about me. The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, so they might be one heart and mind with us. Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me. The same glory you gave me, I gave them, so they'll be as unified and together as we are—I in them and you in me.” John 17:20 Vision 5: ‘That our mission would have such integrity that every expression of our ministry would be marked not so much by a red shield or even a crest, but by the love of God for people.’ To ponder: There are many lonely and isolated people in every community. Corps can become active in providing a sense of community and belonging for people by acting out of a heart of love. For example: care for refugees, caring for people bereaved by suicide (see the Army’s new ‘Hope for Life’ web site), care for people who are economically disadvantaged. Wilma Gallet

Week Commencing Sunday June 14 Aberfoyle Park (South Australia)—Lieutenants Malcolm and Priah Dean Pray for: Our "Little Footprints" indoor playground and cafe that attracts mothers (and fathers) with pre-schoolers. It is open Monday to Saturday weekly and usually books out each day. Often parent and child have to queue up waiting for a vacancy. The corps is about to introduce occasional cafe church style meeting focusing on children and parents in an endeavor to introduce them to our corps fellowship. Please pray for the leaders and volunteers. We have few workers but big programs. Also pray for our officers as they assess the corps’ strengths and the community needs.

Devonport (Tasmania)—Captains Chris and Cherie Clarke Please Pray: That the links with social services to the corps will develop even further and that lives will be changed through them (including Parenting Partners, Break Free, Drug and Alcohol, Emergency Relief). For the growth of our youth and children’s ministries within the corps and for the development of leaders within the church.

Crossroads West—Adolescent Youth and Family Services (Western Australia)—Michelle Harmes and team Wills and Bequests—Rod Reeve and THQ and divisional teams Riverland Community Services and Shiralee House (South Australia)—Robert Cugley and team Supported accommodation for families and personal support program.

Week Commencing Sunday June 21 Finland and Estonia Territory—Colonels Andrè and Silvia Cox Pray for our Territorial ‘Roots’ congress. As we think back to the many blessings that resulted from our last Roots congress, pray for an even greater harvest in 2009! Pray that Salvationists in Finland and Estonia will understand their individual responsibility and Biblical mandate to tithe income in support of the spiritual ministry in each local corps setting. Pray particularly for the work among children and young people. That our corps will seek renewal and a new vision as they apply the concepts of integrated mission in their everyday setting. Pray that the Lord will open our eyes, give us a new love and a new sense of urgency to reach out to “lost souls”.

Overseas and Exchange Personnel Majors Michael and Annette Coleman —TAIWAN Meditation

“Don't burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don't quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.” Romans 12:11

Vision 6: “That every corps would embrace the gospel for everyone in their community, not discriminating by culture, language, social status, or age…and that the helping ministries would be woven into the fabric so that even under a nuclear microscope we could not distinguish between spiritual and social.” The instructions are simple: act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8). The implication is that a Christian life involves more than just a relationship with God; it also involves deep relationships with other people.’ Aaron Peterson

Week Commencing Sunday June 21 Hamilton with Welfare Services (Western Victoria)—Majors Barry and Heather Steer Prayer Points: We need a suitable leader and helpers to run a mid week kid's club. Pray that children and families of the children, will make solid links to the corps and come to know Jesus. Pray for a musician who can assist in providing music for worship. Pray for the purchase and renovations of our much-needed Thrift shop, that the shop will also become a means of outreach to people in the community. Pray that the men currently on the fringe of our corps will develop desire for spiritual growth and commitment. Praise Points: We praise God for a loyal and dedicated small team of local people. We praise God for new families that are being linked to the corps through our welfare program.

Meditation

“Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God's Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 Vision 6: “That every corps would embrace the gospel for everyone in their community, not discriminating by culture, language, social status, or age…and that the helping ministries would be woven into the fabric so that even under a nuclear microscope we could not distinguish between spiritual and social.” Jesus…spoke the gospel into people’s lives without discriminating. He proclaimed the good news as powerfully to the social elite - the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees and the occupying Roman forces - as he did to the social outcasts - women, the lame and criminals. Sin does not discriminate by culture, language, social status or age. Neither should our preaching of the good news. Aaron Peterson

Week Commencing Sunday June 28 Wonthaggi (Eastern Victoria)—Captains Simon and Deborah Smith Please Pray: For community outreach programs to address issues such as social isolation and loneliness, including a coffee morning and our community meal program. That people will not only have their physical needs met, but that they will come to faith through their contact with us. For leaders to come forward to assist with children's ministries. For continued growth in depth of people’s spirituality and continued growth in numbers.

Melton (Melbourne Central)—Captains Nicole and Glenn Stickland Moonee Ponds (Melbourne Central)—Envoys Don and Cynthia Stelling Northam with Community Centre (Western Australia)—Cadets Gareth and Alison MacDonald Fellowship Corps—Captain Donna Bryan The Salvation Army Fellowship Corps is a ministry for Salvationists and friends who are generally unable to attend a church or corps and be part of its fellowship. Pray for the members of this corps who often live in isolated areas, yet still find opportunity to witness to others. Pray for the Communiqué magazine, which contains a ‘worship meeting on paper’, that it will provide spiritual encouragement and nurture.

Psalm 23 The Lord is my constant companion. There is no need that he cannot fulfil. Whether his course for me points to the mountaintops of glorious ecstasy or to the valleys of human suffering, he is by my side, he is ever present with me. He is close beside me when I tread the dark streets of danger; and even when I flirt with death itself, he will not leave me. When the pain is severe, he is near to comfort. When the burden is heavy, he is there to lean upon. When depression darkens my soul, he touches me with eternal joy. When I feel empty and alone, he fills the aching vacuum with his power. My security is in his promise to be near to me always, and in the knowledge that he will never let me go. Book of Christian Prayer (Leslie Brant)
