B.Com & M.Com syllabus were restructured in November 2005 and November, 2003 respectively. The curriculum of both courses has been restructured as per the curriculum report published by the UGC and about 90 to 95% of the UGC curriculum report has been utilized for restructuring these courses. The faculty members of the department have been actively engaged in wide ranging research activities covering a large number of national and regional topics. In the field of industry the main focus of the research area was on the impact of industrialisation in the development of Himachal Pradesh, rural Industrialisation, and industrialisation in tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh. In the field of finance major research work has been done on security markets, banking, mutual fund etc. The various studies on marketing have also been conducted such as Brand loyalty, marketing of products, studies on consumer behavior etc. The individual teachers of the department are contributing a lot in research. Prof. Bal Krishan who has the specialisation in Finance have contributed substantially to research in the field of security markets He has written four books and guided twelve Ph.D students and more than twenty M.Phil students on the topics mainly focused on Finance. Prof. Bal Krishan and Prof. Des Raj Gupta have completed three major research projects financed by SSA H. P. Government and HRD, Government of India jointly with Dr. S.S. Narta and Dr. O.P. Verma. Prof. Des Raj Gupta has made significant contribution in teaching and research work. He has successfully guided five Ph.D studies mainly on Finance. He has also successfully guided M.Phil dissertation to about twenty-five students. He has published research papers and books. Dr. Vijay Kumar successfully guided Ph.D Degree to three students and ten other students are also perusing Ph.D particularly on Industrialisation, Banking, Corporate Restructuring, Foreign Trade etc. He has guided about twenty students in M.Phil successfully. He has also completed one major research project financed by IIHS, H.P University, Shimla. He has also published research papers and a

8 book on Industrialisation in Tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh. In the field of Finance Dr. S.S. Narta has also done a lot of research work. He has written five books sand has published 15 research papers. Dr. O.P. Verma is also guiding students on various research areas particularly banking and personnel Management. Dr. Kulbhushan Chandel who has specialization in Marketing and published number of research papers. During the last five years about 25 doctoral thesis of the department have been approved and awarded by the University. These thesis mainly deal the research work on, Banking, Industrialization, Security Markets, Indebtedness etc. A large number of M.Phil dissertations covering various research fields on the regional and national levels and many of them belong to the proposed thrust areas. They represent a rich repository of preliminary research that can be further developed by the scholars with help of SAP.

16. Participation of the department in the extension activity of the university. The teachers of the department take active interest in the extensions activities of the University. The faculty members of the department have been closely associated with teaching activity of different departments of the University. Teachers of the department are engaged in the teaching of the courses of Bachelor of Business administration, Master of computer applications, Master Business Administration, Master of Tourism Administration, Master of Business Economics, B.Tech. (IT) etc.

The student of the department are continually assessed by organising seminars, presentation quiz, assignment etc.

The department do not maintain any placement record of the students. Moreover, the students who complete their degree from the department also do not inform about their placement.

With the opening and globalisation of Indians economy, the financial sector in India is growing at a fast rate. The entry of the private sector in this field has increased the demands for professionals in order to meet the growing requirements of professionals in the financial sector of Indian economy. The department has made a proposal to start new courses such as Master of Financial Control, Diploma in Retail Management and Banking and Insurance and the same has been submitted to the UGC team visiting in the H.P. University for financial accommodations.
