«Crazy for Greece» ονομάζεται η παγκόσμια καμπάνια της Folli Follie –τις φωτογραφίες από το παρασκήνιο της οποίας εξασφάλισε το περιοδικό Greek Riviera–, που στόχο έχει να προβάλλει την Ελλάδα σε είκοσι τέεσερις χώρες σε όλο τον κόσμο. Με φόντο την ελληνική σημαία και τόπο φωτογράφισης και γυρισμάτων τις Σπέτσες, η Folli Follie αναδεικνύει τη μοναδικότητα του ελληνικού καλοκαιριού και καλεί τους πολίτες του κόσμου να επισκεφτούν την Ελλάδα, προκειμένου να κατανοήσουν τη διαδικασία μέσω της οποίας οι αρχαίοι κάτοικοι αυτού του τόπου επινόησαν τις βασικές έννοιες πάνω στις οποίες βασίζεται η σύγχρονη δημοκρατία. Η διεθνής καμπάνια, που περιλαμβάνει έντυπη καταχώριση καθώς και δημιουργικό video-clip, φιλοξενείται σε εφημερίδες και στους μεγαλύτερους τίτλους μόδας, προβάλλεται στο Internet και σε τηλεοπτικές εκπομπές, παρουσιάζεται σε billboards σε Ευρώπη, Ασία και Αμερική, επιβεβαιώνοντας με αυτό τον τρόπο ότι η Folli Follie δεν ξεχνά να προβάλει την ελληνικότητά της στο εξωτερικό, ειδικά αυτή την περίοδο που κρίνεται αναγκαίο. “Crazy for Greece” is a worldwide campaign by Folli Follie, whose goal is to feature Greece in twenty-four countries around the world. Greek Riviera magazine is pleased to present a behind the scenes chronicle of the photo shooting. With the Greek flag as the background, and photography and filming taking place on the island of Spetses, Folli Follie highlights the uniquness of the Greek summer and invites citizens of the world to visit Greece, in order to understand the process with which its ancient inhabitants invented the basic concepts forming the basis of modern democracy. The international campaign, which includes both print and video, is already underway in newspapers, fashion magazines, on the Internet and on television programmes, as well as billboards throughout Europe, Asia and America – an testament to Folli Follies’ dedication in promoting its “Greekness” abroad, particularly during these “hard” times.

Tο Poseidonion Grand Hotel με την Christine Smith πήραν την πρωτοβουλία να εκθέσουν έργα τέχνης στο πνεύμα της Regatta. Η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει υδατογραφίες της Λένας Κούτση, φωτορεαλιστικά έργα της Χρύσας Δελλαπόρτα, έργα της Μάρης Σερφιώτη, υποβρύχιες σκηνές της Ρούλας PappasΤσιώτα, μικρογραφίες κατασκευών της Βαρβάρας Σπυρούλη, καθώς και εκείνες της Μαρίνας Μαραβελάκη.

Poseidonion Grand Hotel took the initiative to exhibit artwork in the spirit of the Regatta along with Christine Smith. With six established artists on display, the eyes of the viewer can rest on the fresh watercolors of Lena Koutsi, the photorealistic paintings of Hrissa Delaporta and Mari Serfioti, the Roula Pappas - Tsiota’s underwater scenes and the artworks by the artists Barbara Spyrouli and Marina Maravelaki.

Μια έκθεση ζωγραφικής του ζωγράφου Umberto Bezzola στο Ηλιόκαστρο. / A painting exhibition of Umberto Bezzola at Iliokastro. Σε συνεργασία με τη Γαλλική Πρεσβεία Αθηνών, ο ζωγράφος Umberto Bezzola παρουσίασε έκθεση ζωγραφικής, που φιλοξενείται στο χώρο του γαλλικού εστιατορίου «Marivon» στο Ηλιόκαστρο. Τα έσοδα από την πώληση των έργων θα διατεθούν στο Γαλλικό Λύκειο Κρανιδίου. / In collaboration with the Embassy of France in Athens, Umberto Bezzola exhibited his paintings at “Marivon” French restaurant at Iliokastro. All proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the French High School at Kranidi.

Πώς ξεκινήσατε την ενασχόλησή σας με τις καταδύσεις; Είμαι δεύτερη γενιά. Έχω αναλάβει τη σχολή από τον πατέρα μου. Από οκτώ χρόνων ξεκίνησα να κάνω καταδύσεις και μόλις ενηλικιώθηκα, έγινα εκπαιδευτής της Ελληνικής Ομοσπονδίας – μέχρι πρότινος η μοναδική ομοσπονδία στην Ελλάδα που ήταν πιστοποιημένη. Στη συνέχεια, έγινα Master Scuba Diver Trainer της PADI, της Παγκόσμιας Ομοσπονδίας, και εκπαιδευτής της CMASS. Συνολικά από τα τριάντα δύο χρόνια ζωής, ασχολούμαι είκοσι δύο χρόνια με τις καταδύσεις. Τι σημαίνει η Κάππαρη για εσάς; Σημαίνει πολλά. Πρώτα απ’ όλα η Κάππαρη είναι όλη μου η ζωή, γιατί όλα τα καλοκαίρια μου, ακόμα και ως μαθητής ή ως φοιτητής, βοηθούσα τους γονείς μου. Έχω σπουδάσει οικονομικά-λογιστικά, αλλά τελικά με κέρδισε η θάλασσα. Τι είναι αυτό που σας ελκύει στις καταδύσεις; Το ό,τι η κάθε φορά είναι καινούργια φορά για μένα. When did you first become interested in diving? I am a secondgeneration diver and have taken over the diving school from my father. I have been diving since I was 8 years old and became an instructor for the Greek Divers Association as soon as I came of age. Until recently, the Greek Divers Association was the only certified association in Greece. I went on to become a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and CMAS instructor. PADI is the worldwide diver training organisation. I have been diving for 22 years – I am 32 years old. What does the island of Kappari mean to you? Kappari is

extremely important to me. First of all, Kappari is a large part of my life, as I used to help my parents every summer when I was in school and university. I studied economics and accounting, but my heart belongs to the sea. What do you like most about diving? The fact that every time I dive, it’s a new and different experience.

Τα τελευταία δεκαπέντε χρόνια το Πόρτο Χέλι είναι ένας από τους καλύτερους προορισμούς της Ελλάδας. Πράγματι, η περιοχή της Ερμιονίδας –ιδιαίτερα το Πόρτο Χέλι– τείνει να γίνει ένας από τους καλύτερους προορισμούς της Ελλάδας για εξοχική κατοικία, για Έλληνες και ξένους επενδυτές. Στην περιοχή έχουν επενδύσει βασιλικοί οίκοι – πρόσφατα ο διάδοχος της Ολλανδίας πραγματοποίησε μια αγορά στη περιοχή–, τα μεγαλύτερα εφοπλιστικά τζάκια, τόσο από την Ελλάδα όσο και από το εξωτερικό, προσφέροντας στην περιοχή περισσότερη αίγλη. Άλλωστε, η περιοχή δεν έγινε γνωστή τώρα. Από το 1962, αρχικά η οικογένεια Μαυρολέων, και στη συνέχεια η οικογένεια Νιάρχου, η οικογένεια Λιβανού, η Fortabat από την Αργεντινή, η εγγονή του τελευταίου Γερμανού κάιζερ εντυπωσιάστηκαν από την ομορφιά της περιοχής και έχτισαν σπίτια πρωτόγνωρα που εξακολουθούν να εντυπωσιάζουν τον επισκέπτη έως και σήμερα. Για ποιο λόγο διασημότητες από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό επιλέγουν την Ερμιονίδα; Καταρχάς, βρίσκεται μια ανάσα από την Αθήνα. Το σημαντικότερο, όμως, είναι ότι αποτελεί σταυροδρόμι σε μια σειρά από σημαντικούς αρχαιολογικούς και ιστορικούς προορισμούς, αλλά και προορισμούς αναψυχής. Σε απόσταση μιας ώρας το πολύ, μπορεί κάποιος να επισκεφθεί το Ναύπλιο, τις Μυκήνες την Τίρυνθα, την Επίδαυρο, αλλά και νησιά όπως τις Σπέτσες (μόλις 1,4 μίλια από το Πόρτο Χέλι) και την Ύδρα (4 μίλια αντίστοιχα). Η φυσική ομορφιά της περιοχής, μια ακτογραμμή με πολυάριθμες παραλίες, το φρέσκο ψάρι, όπως και τα τοπικά προϊόντα, με κυρίαρχο το εξαιρετικό παρθένο ελαιόλαδο αλλά και το ρόδι και το μανταρίνι από την Ερμιόνη, όπως και η φιλοξενία των ντόπιων κάνουν την περιοχή ελκυστική. Τι σημαίνει για την Ερμιονίδα η επένδυση σε αγορά παραθεριστικής κατοικίας ή ακινήτων γενικότερα; Η Ερμιονίδα έχει ωφεληθεί εξαιρετικά από τις επενδύσεις που έχουν πραγματοποιηθεί στην περιοχή. Δημιουργήθηκαν αρκετές νέες θέσεις εργασίας όχι μόνο για την κατασκευή των κατοικιών, αλλά και για τη συντήρησή τους, που είναι εξίσου σημαντικό. Υπάρχουν κατασκευές που διατηρούν από

δέκα πέντε έως είκοσι πέντε άτομα για τη συντήρηση ενός κτήματος. Αν ανάγουμε τα άτομα σε οικογένειες, αντιλαμβάνεστε ότι ένα μεγάλο κομμάτι του πληθυσμού της περιοχής ζει από αυτήν τη δουλειά. Κατά τη γνώμη σας, τι πρέπει να κάνει η Ερμιονίδα για να γίνει κορυφαίος τουριστικός και παραθεριστικός προορισμός; Η περιοχή μας, τη δεκαετία του ’70, γνώρισε μεγάλη τουριστική ανάπτυξη. Η συνέχεια ήταν διαφορετική, γιατί η Ermioνίδα έμεινε πίσω στον εκσυγχρονισμό των υποδομών της, συγκριτικά με άλλους προορισμούς στην Ελλάδα. Πιστεύω ότι τώρα είναι η κατάλληλη χρονική στιγμή για την εκ νέου ανάπτυξη του ποιοτικού τουρισμού στην περιοχή. Η εταιρεία Dolphin Capital Investors πίστεψε στις δυνατότητες της περιοχής. Ήδη σήμερα λειτουργεί το συγκρότημα Aman Resorts, η μεγαλύτερη ξενοδοχειακή επένδυση που γίνεται σήμερα στην Ελλάδα, ενώ είναι σε εξέλιξη οι προγραμματισμένες επενδύσεις της εταιρείας για την ανακατασκευή του ξενοδοχείου Giouli και την κατασκευή signature golf course από τον Jack Nicklaus στην περιοχή της Κοιλάδας. Αυτά τα έργα αναδεικνύουν την Ερμιονίδα σε νεοανερχόμενο προορισμό της Μεσογείου. Η τοπική κοινωνία θα πρέπει να στηρίξει ενέργειες ανάλογες με της Dolphin Capital Investors, ώστε να ολοκληρωθεί αρμονικά με τον τόπο το πρόγραμμά τους και έτσι να προσεγγίσει νέους επενδυτές που θα αναδεικνύουν συνεχώς την περιοχή. Πώς η εταιρεία σας έχει συμβάλει στην ανάπτυξη της περιοχής; Καταφέραμε όλα αυτά τα χρόνια, από το 1979 που η εταιρεία δραστηριοποιήθηκε για πρώτη φορά, να διαφημίσουμε την περιοχή, προσφέροντας εξειδικευμένες υπηρεσίες. Κατορθώσαμε να φέρουμε πλήθος επενδυτών να δουν πρώτα την περιοχή και αργότερα να επενδύσουν σε αυτή. Ένα πολύ μεγάλο μέρος από τα ακίνητα που έχουν διατεθεί στην περιοχή έχουν πουληθεί από την εταιρεία μας, ενώ αρκετά από τα πιο αξιόλογα σπίτια έχουν κατασκευαστεί από εμάς. Ποιο είναι το όραμα της Golden Land Goutos; To όραμα της εταιρείας δεν έχει αλλάξει από την ίδρυσή της. Θέλουμε να βοηθήσουμε, από τη δική μας πλευρά, την περιοχή να ενταχθεί στην αντζέντα με τους ανερχόμενους πολυτελείς προορισμούς παγκοσμίως. Στόχος μας ήταν και είναι η ανάπτυξη της περιοχής και είμαστε αρωγοί σε κάθε θετική προσπάθεια που γίνεται από οποιονδήποτε για την περιοχή. Στηρίξαμε με προσωπικά έξοδα την ολοκλήρωση των εγκαταστάσεων βιολογικού καθαρισμού στην Ερμιόνη. Άλλωστε, διαθέτουμε κάθε χρόνο ένα σεβαστό ποσό για τη διαφήμιση και την προώθηση της Ερμιονίδας.

Since 1962, the Mavroleon family, the Niarchou family, the Livanou family, Fortabat from Argentine and the granddaugther of the last German emperor have all been impressed by the beauty of the area and have built extraordinary houses which continue to impress visitors to this very day. Why do celebrities from Greece and abroad choose Ermionida? Firstly, it is near Athens. The most important thing, however, is that it is a crossroads for several important archaeological and historical destinations, and also leisure destinations. In under an hour, one can visit Nafplio, Mycenae, Tiryns, Epidavros and islands like Spetses, which is just 1.4 miles from Porto Heli and Hydra, which is 4 miles away. The natural beauty of the area, a coastline with countless beaches in addition to outstanding local products like extra virgin olive oil, pomegranates and mandarin oranges from Ermionida, and the hospitality of the locals, help to make the area very attractive to visitors. What is special about buying a holiday home or investing in property in Ermionida? Ermionida has benefited greatly from investments in the area. Many new jobs have been created, not only in construction of homes but also in maintenance, which is also very important. There are estates which support fifteen to twenty people in the maintenance field. If we look at these people in terms of families, we realise that a large proportion of the region’s population supports themselves in these jobs.

In your opinion, what does Ermionida need to do in order to become a leading tourism and holiday destination? Our area experienced terrific growth in the 70s. The years that followed were different because the area fell behind in the modernisation of its infrastructure compared with other areas in Greece. I believe that it is now the perfect time for the re-development of quality tourism in the area. Dolphin Capital Investors understands and believes in the potential of the region. It already operates Aman Resorts, the largest hotel investment in Greece today. The upcoming investments of the company include the reconstruction of the Giouli hotel and the development of a Jack Niklaus signature golf course in Kilada in Ermionida, which will help make it an up and coming destination in the Mediterranean. The local community should support initiatives such as those of Dolphin Capital Investors so as to ensure they are on schedule, and to attract new investors who will consistently promote the area. How has your company contributed to the development of the area into one of the most luxurious locations in Greece? We have managed, since 1979 when the company was founded, to advertise the region by offering specialised services. We have also attracted several investors to first come see the region and to later invest in it. Many properties sold in the area have been sold by our company and we have built several extraordinary houses. What are your company’s goals? What is the vision of the Golden Land Goutos? The company vision has not changed since it was founded. We want to help the region to join the roster of forthcoming luxury destinations worldwide. Our goal was and is the development of the region and we assist in every positive effort made by anyone in the area. We have financially supported the completion of sewage treatment facilities in Ermioni. In addition, we have a considerable advertising budget to promote Ermionida.

Τι μέρος της ζωής σας είναι οι Σπέτσες; Οι Σπέτσες είναι ο τόπος που συνειδητά έχουμε επιλέξει να μένουμε πλέον μόνιμα και οι δύο, οπότε είναι ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά κομμάτια της ζωής μας. Μας προσφέρει ηρεμία και γαλήνη κάτι που δύσκολα πλέον κάποιος μπορεί να βρει. Πώς αποφασίσατε να δώσετε το όνομα «Votsalo» στο μαγαζί σας; Θέλαμε το όνομα που θα δώσουμε στο μαγαζί με κάποιον τρόπο να συνδέεται με το νησί, αλλά ταυτόχρονα να είναι και κάτι απλό. Το βότσαλο, ως στοιχείο, υπάρχει παντού στο νησί... στα βοτσαλωτά σοκάκια του και τις παραλίες... και συνδυάζεται τέλεια με το γεμάτο απλότητα νησιώτικο στυλ, που έχουμε δώσει στο μαγαζί. Έτσι, μας έκανε «κλικ»... Είναι το πρώτο πράγμα που μας ήρθε στο μυαλό. Τι σημαίνει το «Votsalo» για εσάς; Είναι η αρχή μιας κοινής πορείας, το δεύτερο σπίτι μας, το παιδί μας... η παρέα μας! Όλα έχουν γίνει με πολύ μεράκι και αγάπη. Προσωπική εργασία δεν βάλαμε μόνο εμείς, αλλά και πολλοί καλοί φίλοι. Άλλωστε, αυτό είναι που θέλαμε να βγάλουμε προς τα έξω: την παρέα! Το «Votsalo» δεν είναι μόνο δικό μας, αλλά όλων! Καθένας μπορεί να έρθει να βρει το δικό του βότσαλο, το δικό του λόγο να αγαπήσει το μαγαζί!

What role does the island of Spetses play in your life? Both of us have consciously chosen to make Spetses our permanent residence; thus, it is one of the most important things in our lives. It offers us inner peace and tranquility, two rare commodities these days. How did you choose the name “Votsalo?”* We wanted a name which would link the bar to the island while also being simple. Pebbles abound on the island ... in the pebble-lined alleys and on the beaches ... and it suits the simple island

style of our bar. It just clicked ... And it was the first thing to come to mind. What does “Votsalo” mean to you? It is the beginning of a common journey, our second home, our child ... our friend! It was built with great care and love. We have done much of the work on our own and with the help of good friends. This is what we wanted to make out after all ... good company! “Votsalo” doesn’t belong only to us ... it belongs to everyone! “Children Playing on the Beach,” 1884, The National Gallery of Art, Washington The sweetness with which Cassatt depicts children is very touching. Cassatt, whose art combined persistence with a contemporary treatment of colour and light, is one of the most underrated modernists.

“Ask me no questions, and I’ll tell you no lies,” has always been the design team maxim. Hull shapes and keels are covered in “skirts” to keep them from prying eyes. The formula for designing a Cup yacht lets designers tinker with many variables: the yacht’s length, sail area and weight are three of the most basic ones. External factors will also play heavily: wind strength plus wave size and wave shape at the competition venue, for instance. A boat that is fast in Auckland could be a “dog” in Valencia. The grinding pedestals, linked to a gearing system resembling that of a bicycle, lift loads up to 20 tons, pulling in ropes and other rigging gear. The ropes are hitech to withstand these huge loads. The rigging that comes from the top of the mast to the back of the boat takes loads in excess of 17 tons.

Το δεύτερο μεγάλο ραντεβού των απανταχού afficionados του ναυταθλητισμού και των σκαφών εποχής, το 2ο Spetses Classic Yacht Race, πραγματοποιήθηκε από τις 21-24 Ιουνίου στο μπογάζι ανάμεσα στις Σπέτσες και το Πόρτο Χέλι, υπό την αιγίδα του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Ελλάδος και την υποστήριξη του Δήμου Σπετσών. Διπλάσια η συμμετοχή σε σχέση με τους πρώτους αγώνες, οι οποίοι πραγματοποιήθηκαν πέρυσι το φθινόπωρο και που φαίνεται πλέον ότι βρήκαν οριστικά τη θέση τους στο ημερολόγιο, ξεκινώντας τη μεγαλύτερη ημέρα του χρόνου και πρώτη ημέρα, επίσημα, του καλοκαιριού. Συμμετείχαν είκοσι ένα κλασικά σκάφη, τα οποία χωρίστηκαν σε τρεις κατηγορίες βάσει του έτους ναυπήγησης: Vintage (πριν από τo 1949), Classic (έως το 1975) και Spirit of Tradition (1975 έως σήμερα), αλλά και δεκαεπτά παραδοσιακά καΐκια και δώδεκα λατίνια, μια πρωτοτυπία αυτού του αγώνα, που έχει στόχο –εκτός από το ναυταθλητισμό και την τουριστική προώθηση της περιοχής– τη διάσωση των παραδοσιακών καρνάγιων του νησιού. The 2nd annual Spetses Classic Yacht Race, an annual event for water sports aficionados and classic yachts, took place between June 21st and 24th in the strait between Spetses and Porto Heli, under the auspices of the Yacht Club of Greece and with the support of the Municipality of Spetses. There were twice as many participants this year compared to the first race last autumn and the event seems to have found its place in the calendar, on the longest day of the year, the summer solstice. Twenty-one classic yachts, which were divided into three categories based on the year they were built, participated in the race: Vintage (pre 1949), Classic (to 1975) and Spirit of Tradition (1975 to 2012). Moreover, seventeen classic schooners and twelve lateens also took part. It was a very unique race that aimed, in addition to promoting tourism and water sports in the area, to save the traditional shipyards on the island, which are being persecuted by the State. The Plaza at the Poseidonion Grand Hotel was “full of the meaning something has” as sung by Dionysis Savvopoulos, who was also present at the closing ceremonies with his wife Aspa and her sister Ketty, wife of Dimitris Koutsolioutsos, owners of Folli Follie, which introduced the Regatta collectible watch. How were you involved with the whisky industry and more specifically with your specific task? Has there been any phase in your life when you said “this is what I want to do in my life” (professionally)? I grew up around a whisky distillery where my Father worked but it wasn’t until 1973 that I joined Chivas Brothers and so the story begins. I soon became involved in production at our bottling hall in Edinburgh, with a particular interest in package quality. From package quality it was a small step to spirit quality, which is controlled by the Blenders. This is when my nose was tested and found to have the attributes required for blending our Scotch whiskies, and in particular, Chivas Regal. Under the guidance of our Master Blender I learnt about the complex flavours in Scotch whisky and how our vast stocks of casks of the finest whiskies aged and matured from new spirit to 12, 18, 25 and even to over 40 years old. He also taught me the traditions and the art of blending Chivas Regal in the Chivas “house” style of smoothness, richness and harmony of flavours. In 1989 when he retired I became the Chivas Brothers Master Blender – the rest is history! There are no schools or universities to learn the art of blending; it is all about experience, time and most importantly, a passion for whisky. We believe it takes at least eight to ten years to become a Master Blender.

Which is the main malt within Chivas Regal? All blended Scotch whiskies, by legal definition, must contain both malt and grain whiskies. It is the selection of these many different whiskies, each for their own characters and flavours, that when blended together, produce the final taste experience that is unique to that blended Scotch. Each whisky selected has its own special role to play in the final blend and it is the skill of the Master Blender in selection that ensures the high quality and consistent taste experience of the blend year on year. Chivas Regal is a superlative blend of many different malt and grain whiskies, but most importantly at the heart of the blend is Strathisla Malt Scotch whisky, a very special and classic single malt from Speyside. A distillery uses malted barley, water and yeast to make its malt whisky, and in a similar way a yachts uses its mast, the sails and wind to travel. Strathisla is one of many traditional distilleries in Scotland and dates back to 1786, just like traditional yachts which were sailing the seas even before this date. Those traditions in distilleries and sailing yachts remain unchanged, but today, they are both assisted by modern technology. It is said that “the magic of a whisky has to do with the art of blending and thus, blended whisky is the king of all

whiskies.’’ What is your opinion? The magic of Scotch whisky is the vast array of complex flavours that are found in each and every different malt or grain Scotch whisky, and it is the Art of blending that brings all the flavours together to create incredible taste experiences. The skill of the Master Blender, in selecting the different high quality malt and grain whiskies, will ensure the consistent and superlative taste experience of the final blend. In my view Scotch whisky, whether Blended or a Single malt, are all “Kings” together. It is their varied characters and taste experiences that makes them different. One is not better than another; they all have their own individual appeal to the Scotch drinker. Chivas Regal with its easy-drinking style suits all situations and tastes. Please describe Chivas Regal style, as well its difference with the 18 year old and the 25 year old Chivas Regal 12 Year Old – with its rich distinctive style and heritage, is one of the world’s best-loved premium spirit brands and is enjoyed in more than 150 countries worldwide. The whisky has a radiant, warm amber colour and is an aromatic infusion of wild herbs, heather, honey and orchard fruits. It has a rich taste of honey and ripe apples with smooth vanilla, hazelnut and butterscotch notes. Chivas Regal 18 Gold Signature – created in 1997, this is a

unique blend of rare aged whiskies matured for a minimum of 18 years, hand-selected from Chivas Brothers’ inventory for their exceptional richness. I personally created Chivas Regal 18 gold signature, reflecting the acclaimed style and character of Chivas Regal, yet with its own distinctive personality. Chivas Regal 18 has the smoothness of velvet, rich dark chocolate and buttery toffee flavours that are encompassed by elegant floral notes and a wisp of sweet mellow smokiness. Chivas Regal 25 Year Old – pays homage to the first-ever Chivas Regal blend, which was shipped from Aberdeen to New York in 1909 to satisfy the palate of American high society. The pinnacle of the range, I recreated Chivas Regal 25 year old in 2007 using the same traditions and style as the legendary Charles Howard used for the original blend in 1909. This means that every single cask is hand-selected and individually nosed. Each of the Speyside malt and grain whiskies he selected has its own distinctive character. Among them is Strathisla single malt, the whisky at the heart of Chivas Regal. All have been blended together to create a perfectly balanced masterpiece of dazzling complexity. Chivas Regal 25 has an enticing fruitiness of sweet oranges and peaches, with a rich milk-chocolate fondant smoothness

and notes of marzipan followed by a luxuriously long finish. What is the best way to enjoy a Chivas? Does this also depend in the age of the whisky? At Chivas Brothers we always say the best way to drink whisky is the way you like it most. It is a personal preference. Chivas Regal fans drink it very differently depending what country they are in and how they feel – with ice, with water, neat, with mixers or whatever, there are no rules to your enjoyment of Chivas Regal. However, I would recommend the addition of a small amount of still bottled water to release the many delicious flavours hidden behind the alcohol. Drinking Scotch is a most enjoyable pastime, but it is most important to understand that drinking is for pleasure and friendship and it must be carried out responsibly. What better place in the world to enjoy a Chivas than on the Greek islands, looking across the sea at an incredible sunset with friends. Would you match whisky with a meal? And what kind of dishes would a Chivas Regal match with? The idea of matching whisky with food has recently grown in popularity with many whisky themed dinners taking place around the world. Both whiskies and food dishes have a wealth of different flavours and so it is natural that they work

together to present another dimension of enjoyment. The style of Chivas Regal with its smooth, rich flavours compliments many different dishes either at lunch or dinner. Chivas Regal 12yo – perfect with sea-food such as scallops or sea bass. Also excellent with chicken dishes. Chivas Regal 18yo – mouth-wateringly delicious with dark chocolate puddings and pies, but also ideal with steaks. Chivas Regal 25yo – relax towards the end of dinner with extra aged yellow cheese accompanied with dried raisins, sultanas and figs. We notice that Chivas range starts from 12yo whisky and older. Is there a specific reason for that? What does this mean for the commitment and the passion behind the brand? The strength of the Chivas Regal range is that every bottle carries the age statement of either 12 years old; 18 years old or 25 years old, legally guaranteeing that there is no whisky less than the stated age in that bottle. σχέση του ανθρώπου με το «γαλάζιο πλανήτη» κυριαρχεί στη θεματική της ζωγράφου Μαρίας Φιλοπούλου. Εύκολα, λοιπόν, θα υπέθετε κάποιος ότι η θερινή της κατοικία δεν θα μπορούσε παρά να βρίσκεται δίπλα στη θάλασσα. Η εικαστικός, η οποία χαίρει διεθνούς αναγνώρισης για τις εικαστικές μελέτες της αναφορικά με τη σχέση του ανθρώπου με το υδάτινο στοιχείο, έχει επιλέξει τη Βερβερόντα, λίγο έξω απο το Πόρτο Χέλι, για να ξεφεύγει απο την Αθήνα όπου κατοικεί, αλλά και από τις μητροπόλεις της Δύσης –κυρίως το Παρίσι, το Λονδίνο και τη Νέα Υόρκη– όπου εκθέτει έργα της. Το κτήμα στη Βερβερόντα είναι οικογενειακό και παραθαλάσσιο, φυτεμένο με πεύκα και ελιές από τον γεωπόνο πατέρα της. Εκεί, πριν από τέσσερα χρόνια, έκτισαν με την αδελφή της δύο ανεξάρτητες κατοικίες. Η σχέση της με το Πόρτο Χέλι κρατάει από την παιδική της ηλικία, αφού η μητέρα της, το γένος Θεοδώρου, κατάγεται απο το Κρανίδι. «Ο παππούς μου ήταν συμβολαιογράφος στο Κρανίδι και έτσι όλα τα καλοκαίρια ερχόμασταν στην περιοχή. Είχαμε ένα εξοχικό λίγο έξω απο το Πόρτο Χέλι, με θέα τη λίμνη της Βερβερόντας.» Εκεί κολυμπώντας στο «νησί της Έλλης», όπως ονομάζεται ένα ακρωτήρι στην πίσω πλευρά του χωριού, στην παραλία Κουνούπι ή στα Κυπαρίσσια, γεννήθηκε η αγάπη της Μαρίας Φιλοπούλου για τη θάλασσα. Στο Πόρτο Χέλι, επίσης, ένιωσε τα πρώτα σκιρτήματα για τη ζωγραφική, όταν σε ηλικία 14 χρόνων επισκέφθηκε μια έκθεση του Καραβούζη που είχε οργανωθεί στην περιοχή. Μερικά χρόνια αργότερα αυτά τα δύο ερεθίσματα θα καθόριζαν αφενός την επιλογή της να ασχοληθεί με τη ζωγραφική, αφετέρου το κυρίαρχο θέμα στα έργα της, το

The relationship between man and the “blue planet” is a dominant theme in the work of Maria Filopoulou. It would be easy for one to assume that her summer home would be situated by the sea with an endless view of deep blue water. The artist, who enjoys international acclaim for her visual studies depicting the relationship between man and water, has chosen Ververonta, just outside Porto Heli, as an escape from her permanent home in Athens and the big cities of the West, particularly Paris, London and New York – where her work is exhibited. The estate in Ververonta is family owned and by the sea, with many pine and olive trees planted by her father, who is an agriculturalist. “I go to Ververonta in the summer and enjoy a morning swim in front of the house, where the shore is rocky and I am lucky enough to be on my own. I like being alone – when I designed the house (modern and simple,) I wanted it to be a personal ‘fortress.’ I am not a ‘homebody;’ the opposite in fact – I enjoy walking and observing,” says Maria Filopoulou. She has been coming to Porto Heli since she was a child, as her mother, nee Theodorou, was born in Kranidi. “My grandfather was a notary in Kranidi and I have spent all my summers in the area. We had a summer home near Porto Heli with a view Ververonta Lake.” Maria fell in love with the sea while swimming at “Ellie’s Island,” the headland behind the village, at Kounoupi beach in Agios Emilianos and at Kyparissia in Ververonta. She also felt the first thrill of painting at Porto Heli, when at 14 years of age she went to a Karavouzis exhibition hosted in the area. Both these influences would later play a role in her decision

νερό. «Αρχικά θέλησα να ακολουθήσω σπουδές στην αρχιτεκτονική. Παρότι πάντοτε ζωγράφιζα, δεν είχα σκεφτεί να ασχοληθώ επισταμένως με τα εικαστικά. Ενόσω όμως σπούδαζα αρχιτεκτονικό σχέδιο, κάποιοι με παρότρυναν να γραφτώ σε κάποιο εικαστικό εργαστήριο. Τότε, συμπτωματικά, μια φίλη μου είχε γραφτεί στο εργαστήρι του Στέφου, και αποφάσισα, από περιέργεια, να εγγραφώ και εγώ. Στη συνέχεια, προέκυψε ο έρωτας για τη ζωγραφική.» Αυτός ο έρωτας, λοιπόν, θα την οδηγήσει το 1984 στο Παρίσι όπου σπουδάζει με τον Leonardo Cremonini. Η παρατήρηση της φύσης πάντοτε έλκυε τη νεαρή εικαστικό, αλλά η ζωή στο γκρίζο Παρίσι, την κατηύθυνε στην απεικόνιση της εσωτερικής ζωής της πόλης και έτσι στα πρώτα της έργα αναπαριστούσε εσωτερικά παριζιάνικων κατοικιών, αλλά και μια σειρά απο κλιμακοστάσια υπηρεσίας, τα οποία ήταν το θέμα της πρώτης ατομικής έκθεσής της το 1993, στην κραταιά γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη, με την οποία συνεργάζεται έκτοτε. Η επιστροφή της στην Ελλάδα τη φέρνει σε επαφή με κάτι που της είχε λείψει και που αγαπά ιδιαιτέρως, όπως άλλωστε τονίζει η ίδια: το Ελληνικό Φως. Το Ελληνικό Φως λειτουργεί σαν καταλύτης στην εικαστική της ματιά, που σύντομα αναζητεί την επιρροή του στη φύση, ξεκινώντας με θερμοκήπια στον Σκοινιά. Οι πικροδάφνες και οι φοίνικες σύντομα θα βγούν απο το θερμοκήπιο και θα μετουσιωθούν σε ελιές, άλλη σειρά έργων, ελιές από το κτήμα της στο Πόρτο Χέλι, ενώ τα απογεύματα αρχίζει να πηγαίνει με το ποδήλατο και ένα τελάρο «στα Κυπαρίσσια, όπου δεν υπήρχε κανείς τότε, και ζωγράφιζα». Το νερό την απασχολεί, τη μαγεύει και το κάνει μανιέρα και θεματολογία σε μια σειρά απο ακουαρέλες με θέμα το υδάτινο στοιχείο. Συν τω χρόνω, θα εμφανιστούν και οι κολυμβητές, μια άλλη σειρά έργων της με μοντέλα που ζωγραφίζει στα Κυπαρίσσια και στο Κουνούπι αρχικά και μετά σε όλη την Ελλάδα. Ενώ ασχολείται με την ενότητα των «Κολυμβητών», επισκέπτεται την αρχαία Ιεράπολη (Παμουκαλέ), στη Νότια Τουρκία. «Εκεί, σε μια παραλία, ανακαλύπτω μια αρχαία πισίνα βυθισμένη στο νερό και τους λουόμενους να κολυμπούν ανάμεσα σε αρχαία ερείπια. Πάντοτε μου άρεσαν οι αρχαιολογικοί τόποι, οι Αλιείς π.χ. στο Πόρτο Χέλι αλλά και σε άλλα μέρη της Ερμιονίδας, που, όπως διαβάζουμε στις περιηγήσεις του Παυσανία, έσφυζε απο ζωή στην αρχαιότητα.»

Observing nature had always appealed to the young artist, but life in a grey Paris, in a small apartment, led to her first works which depicted interior scenes in Parisian homes – perhaps an impulse stemming from the fact that she never studied architecture – and a series of servant staircases, the theme of her first exhibition in 1993, at the esteemed Zoumboulakis Gallery, which has exhibited her work ever since then. When she returned to Greece she would come in contact with something she had both missed and loved: the Greek Light. The Greek Light acted as a catalyst in her artistic observations, which soon sought influences in nature, starting with the greenhouses at Schinia. The oleanders and palm trees would soon give way to a new series of paintings of the olive trees in her Porto Heli estate; in the afternoons she would cycle with a canvas “to Kyparissia, which was deserted at the time, and paint.” She was fascinated by water and found it magical, and developed it into a technique and theme for a series of paintings with water as their dominant element. The increasing awareness of the harmful effects of prolonged exposure to the sun, would bring, in time, swimmers to Maria’s deserted beaches and swimmers would soon appear in her paintings, another series with models initially from Kyparissia and Kounoupi and later from all of Greece: from Patmos, Milos, Kavouri, where her studio is located, and more recently from the waterfalls in Samothraki. While in her “Swimmers” period, she would visit the ancient Hierapolis (Pamukkale), in southern Turkey. “At a beach in Turkey I discovered an ancient pool submerged in the water and the swimmers diving into the ancient ruins. I have always enjoyed archaeological sites and fishing, in Porto Heli and other parts of Ermionida, which were, according to Pausanias, full of life in ancient times. It was in Turkey that I met my ‘Swimmers’ in the beautiful waters, with oleanders all around and antiquities deep in the sea. I returned to the same place for five consecutive years and painted.” The transcendent visual poetry of this series, where the naked form “converses” with water, nature, and the history and creations of man earned rave reviews from the critics and drew the attention of major collectors to Filopoulou’s work, including the National Gallery. “I wanted the human element to harmoniously integrate into nature and to exude a sense of relaxation and happiness.” Those are the exact emotions that she experiences when in Porto Heli and around which she has designed her lifestyle and home there, a “visual spa” comprising water, nature and art. “Porto Heli has changed since I was a child – at that time there was neither a port nor many houses. What I love most about Porto Heli is that it is an intricate place, reminiscent of a piece of lace. You can always discover new beaches, where you can be all alone, even in the summer. In Porto Heli the waters are crystal clear and the energy is good.”

Η υπερβατική οπτική ποίηση αυτής της ενότητας όπου το γυμνό ανθρώπινο σώμα συνδιαλέγεται με το υδάτινο στοιχείο, τη φύση αλλά και την ιστορία του, προκάλεσε διθυραμβικές κριτικές και το ενδιαφέρον σημαντικών συλλεκτών για το έργο της Φιλοπούλου, ανάμεσά τους και η Εθνική Πινακοθήκη. «Ήθελα το ανθρώπινο στοιχείο να είναι αρμονικά ενταγμένο στη φύση και να αναδίδει αίσθηση χαλάρωσης και ευτυχίας.» Ακριβώς τα συναισθήματα τα οποία η ίδια βιώνει όταν βρίσκεται στο Πόρτο Χέλι και με άξονα τα οποία σχεδίασε το λάιφστάιλ της και την κατοικία της εκεί, ένα «εικαστικό σπα». «Το Πόρτο Χέλι έχει αλλάξει πολύ απο τα παιδικά μου χρόνια. Παρά ταύτα, το γεγονός ότι οι ιδιοκτησίες είναι πολύ μεγάλες και το δομημένο κομμάτι σε αυτές πολύ μικρό, με κάνει αισιόδοξη για το ότι η περιοχή θα διατηρήσει τη φυσική της ομορφιά. Αυτό που λατρεύω στο Πόρτο Χέλι είναι ότι πρόκειται για ένα δαντελωτό μέρος. Έτσι, ανακαλύπτεις συνέχεια παραλίες, όπου ακόμη το καλοκαίρι είσαι μόνος σου. Έχει καθαρά νερά και καλή ενέργεια.»

ο δρομολόγιο αυτής της κρουαζιέρας θα έδινε στους επιφανείς ταξιδιώτες την ευκαιρία να ανακαλύψουν τα θαύματα της αρχαίας Ελλάδας σε συνθήκες εξαιρετικής πολυτέλειας. Η κόμισσα των Παρισίων Isabelle μάς έχει προσφέρει μια υπέροχα ζωηρή ανάμνηση της κρουαζιέρας. Χάρη στις αναπολήσεις της μπορούμε να ξαναζήσουμε αυτές τις μοναδικές διακοπές μέχρι την πιο μικρή λεπτομέρεια: «Η βασίλισσα της Ελλάδας Φρειδερίκη είχε τη θαυμάσια ιδέα να καλέσει σε κρουαζιέρα με το “Αγαμέμνων” όλα τα νεαρά μέλη των βασιλικών οικογενειών της Ευρώπης. Συνειδητοποίησε ότι εξαιτίας των συνεπειών του πολέμου, πολλά από τα μέλη διαφορετικών βασιλικών οικογενειών που ήταν συγγενείς μεταξύ τους είχαν αποξενωθεί. Ένας καλός τρόπος για να γνωριστούν όλοι αυτοί οι νέοι, να εκτιμήσουν ο ένας τον άλλο και ίσως να παντρευτούν θα ήταν οι οικογενειακές διακοπές. Θα μπορούσα να παρομοιάσω αυτή την κίνηση με τη συγκρότηση μιας προχωρημένης Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Η συνάντηση είχε οριστεί στη Νάπολι, στις 21 Αυγούστου 1954. Κάποιοι από τους προσκεκλημένους πήγαν οδικώς, άλλοι με τρένο, ενώ κάποιοι ήδη βρίσκονταν στην Ιταλία, είτε σε διακοπές είτε επειδή ζούσαν εκεί. Thanks to her recollections, we can relieve this unique vacation, right down to the slightest details: “Queen Frederica of Greece had the marvelous idea of inviting all the young royals of Europe on a cruise aboard the ‘Agamemnon.’ She realized that, due to consequences of the war, relatives in many of the different royal families had become cut off from one another. A family vacation would be a good way for all these youngsters to get to know and appreciate one another, and perhaps to marry. It was like setting up a kind of precocious European Union. We were to meet in Naples on August 21, 1954. Some arrived by car, others by train and a number were already in Italy, either on vacation or because they lived there. The following morning at eight o’clock sharp we boarded the Agamemnon. What a condition there was! There were so many of us, about a hundred parents and children. In addition there were the members the members of the King and Queen of Greece’s retinue, the crew and the organization: a doctor, an inspector, a nurse and even a hairdresser and his assistant. [...]

[...] Στην Κρήτη επισκεφτήκαμε το Ηράκλειο και στη συνέχεια, σε απόσταση λίγων χιλιομέτρων, την Κνωσό με το μουσείο και το μεγαλοπρεπές παλάτι της· στη Θήρα διασχίσαμε την πόλη πάνω σε γαϊδουράκια· στον Πόρο είδαμε το ναό του Ποσειδώνα και στην Αθήνα την προσοχή μας τράβηξε το παλάτι στο Τατόι. Before we reached our first port of call, Corfu, the boat dropped anchor just off the coast and we were able to walk along the beach before laying out a big picnic on the sand. At the end of the afternoon we visited Achilleion before dining at Mon Repos, the summer residence of the Greek sovereigns. [...] In Crete, was visited Heraklion, then, a few kilometers from there, the town of Knossos with its museum and magnificent palace. On the island of Thira we rode through the town on donkeys. In Poros there was the Temple of Poseidon and in Athens our attention was drawn to the Palace of Tatoi. These monuments were all fascinating. I still marvel to think of the theater in Epidaurus, which is considered the most perfect in the ancient world with its matchless architecture and surprising acoustics. On the evening of our visit, they gave an open-air performance of ‘Hippolytus’ in our honor. It was truly wonderful. We were all sitting on the terraces with the stage down below us. Suddenly the Grand Marshal began to panic when he saw Greek peasants com-

Έτσι, μπορέσαμε να επισκεφτούμε τα μεγαλοπρεπή ερείπια της Αγοράς των Κομπεταλιαστών και να δούμε την εντυπωσιακή πλατεία του 7ου αιώνα π.Χ., που περιστοιχίζεται από μαρμάρινους λέοντες. Ήταν πραγματικά εξαιρετικό! Στη συνέχεια, με τον ξάδελφό μου, τον κόμη Toerring-Jettenbach, πήγαμε να δούμε το μέρος όπου γεννήθηκε ο Απόλλωνας. Σκαρφαλώσαμε τα απότομα μονοπάτια του φημισμένου λόφου της μυθολογίας στις 5.30 το πρωί, καθώς, σύμφωνα με το μύθο, ο θεός γεννήθηκε την αυγή. Αυτό που νιώσαμε εκεί ήταν μοναδικό. Ήταν πραγματικά όμορφα, αν και δυστυχώς διασώζονταν μόνο λίγα ερείπια. Ο Απόλλωνας υπήρξε θεός, θνητός ή απλώς ένα πνεύμα; Δεν θα μάθουμε ποτέ. Καθόλη τη διάρκεια του ταξιδιού, η βασίλισσα Φρειδερίκη ήταν μια φανταστική οικοδέσποινα. Φρόντιζε τους πάντες, αντιλαμβανόταν αμέσως την ύπαρξη όποιου προβλήματος ή αν κάποιος από εμάς αισθανόταν απομονωμένος. Πραγματικά, διαχειρίστηκε το όλο θέμα εξαιρετικά καλά. [...] Ύστερα από ταξίδι δεκατριών ημερών, επιστρέψαμε στο λιμάνι της Νάπολι.»

All through the voyage, Queen Frederica was a fantastic hostess. She took care of everyone, knew immediately when there was a problem, or if one of us was isolated. She really did manage the whole thing superlatively well. I especially remembered the Princess Marie Bonaparte, the wife of Prince George of Greece who, when we were visiting the island of Itea (sic), seeing the city of Delphi, started to recite Renan. I must say that her performance was truly splendid. I also got to know Juliana of Netherlands, who was always bright and full of enthusiasm for the games and water fights. She was a charming person, open and uncomplicated and always in tune with everyone, both young and old. [...] After a voyage of thirteen days, we came back to the harbor at Naples.”

Κατεβαίνοντας τους μαλακούς λόφους του Αγίου Αιμιλιανού, ξεπροβάλλει εμπρός μας ένα ολόκληρο χωριό που έχει ντυθεί με οργιώδη βλάστηση ελληνικής χλωρίδας. Το 2001, γνωστή ελληνική εφοπλιστική οικογένεια αποφάσισε να «ακουμπήσει» το ελληνικό της όνειρο σε αυτή την πανέμορφη γωνιά της Πελοποννήσου, με το να μετατρέψει ένα κτήμα πενήντα στρεμμάτων σε «παλιακό» χωριό. Ο γνωστός αρχιτέκτονας Δημήτρης Σφυρής, σε συνεργασία με την οικογένεια, έκτισε ένα νέο χωριό που το σκέπασε τεχνητά με την πατίνα του χρόνου, σαν να βρισκόταν εκεί πάντα. Με σημείο εκκίνησης την πλατεία κτίστηκαν περιμετρικά σπίτια για τα μέλη της οικογένειας, ξενώνες, ταβέρνα, μπαρ, υπαίθρια μπαρ, ανοικτό θέατρο ακρόασης κλασικής μουσικής, γήπεδα τένις, εκκλησία, πισίνα, γυμναστήρια και άπειροι βοηθητικοί χώροι. Όλα δημιουργήθηκαν με το σκεπτικό της αναβίωσης του ελληνικού πνεύματος, προσαρμοσμένου στις ανάγκες των ιδιοκτητών και με γνώμονα την παροχή υπηρεσιών που θα εξυπηρετούν τους υψηλά ιστάμενους καλεσμένους. Η χωροθέτηση των κτισμάτων βασίζεται στη θέα και το ανάγλυφο του εδάφους. Η θέα από το σημείο αυτό ξεκινά από τις ακτές της Ερμιονίδας και φτάνει μέχρι τα νησιά Δοκό, Ύδρα, Τρίκερι και αν έχει διαυγή ατμόσφαιρα, μέχρι την Παραπόλα.

On the gentle hills of Agios Emilianos, an entire village «dressed» in lush Greek flora suddenly appears. In 2001 a well-known Greek shipping family decided to transform a fifty thousand square metre expanse into an “old-style” village in this beautiful corner of the Peloponnese. Renowned architect Dimitris Sfyris, in collaboration with the family, built a village which, although brand new, looks as though it has been there for ever. Centered around the main square, houses for family members were built, to be followed by houses, a tavern, bar, outdoor bars, open-air classical music theatre, tennis courts, church, pool, gym and many auxiliary buildings. The village was created with a view to revive Greek culture, but has been adapted to the needs of the owners offering the best of services to its discerning guests. The buildings have been positioned in order to ensure the best views and in accordance with the terrain. The expansive visastarts at the coast of Ermonida and stretch all the way to the islands of Dokos, Hydra, Trikeri and and on clear days to Parapola. Ένα μικρό deck περιμένει τους λουόμενους για ηλιοθεραπεία. Τρία γυναικεία γλυπτά κοσμούν τη μικρή εξέδρα / A small deck awaits sunbathers. Three sculptures of women adorn the small podium

old bricks and pebbles were applied. The roofs were tiled, the doors were chosen from demolished houses and all new doors were specially treated to look old as were the lintels and door frames. The plasters were hand mixed in the traditional style (pulled and combed). The pergolas were dressed with tree branches or supported with museum replica beams. The end result is a village which seems to have been on this site for many many years. The landscape was designed by renowned French landscape architect Jean Mus, who selected natural Greek plants for the estate. Hundreds of olive trees, grape vines, lemon, cypress and pine trees, and oleanders were planted, interspersed with aromatic plants that do not require much water. All the slopes are covered in various shades of green as far as the eye can see and the aromas of rosemary, thyme, oregano and rosemary fill the air. Because of the family’s fondness for arts and culture, the estate is decorated with the exquisite works of famous sculptors, like a vast outdoor gallery with works by Natalia Mela, Lallane, Xavier Corbeiro and others adorn the gardens. Needless to say, that every village must also have animals: donkeys, chickens, dogs and cats all coexist harmoniously in complete freedom on the estate.

Για την επίτευξη του σκοπού χρησιμοποιήθηκαν υλικά που παραδοσιακά χρησιμοποιούνται στα χωριά: πέτρα, πλάκες, παλιά τούβλα, βοτσαλόστρωτα. Οι σκεπές έγιναν εμφανείς, οι πόρτες διαλέχτηκαν από κατεδαφίσεις –και όσες προστέθηκαν καινούργιες βάφτηκαν με ειδική επεξεργασία, ώστε να φαίνονται σαν παλιές–, τα υπέρθυρα και οι λαμπάδες των κουφωμάτων επίσης. Οι σοβάδες έγιναν χειροποίητοι και βάσει παραδοσιακών στυλ (τραβηχτοί, χτενιστοί).Οι πέργκολες ντύθηκαν με σχίζες δέντρων ή αλλού υποστυλώνονται με μουσειακά αντίγραφα δοκών. Το αποτέλεσμα ήταν σαν να υπήρχε το χωριό σε αυτήν τη θέση εδώ και πάρα πολλά χρόνια. Το εξωτερικό τοπίο επιμελήθηκε ο γνωστός Γάλλος αρχιτέκτονας τοπίου Jean Mus, ο οποίος επέλεξε φυτά από την ελληνική φύση να πλαισιώσουν το κτήμα. Φυτεύτηκαν εκατοντάδες ελιές, αμπελώνες, λεμονιές, πεύκα, κυπαρίσσια, πικροδάφνες και ενδιάμεσα όλα τα αρωματικά φυτά που δεν απαιτούν πολύ νερό. Ο επισκέπτης βλέπει τις πλαγιές να καλύπτουν όλη τη χρωματική γκάμα του πράσινου και συνάμα να ευωδιάζουν δεντρολίβανο, θυμάρι, ρίγανη, λεβάντα. Λόγω της αγάπης της οικογένειας προς τις τέχνες και τον πολιτισμό, το κτήμα κοσμείται από εξαιρετικά έργα διάσημων γλυπτών –της Ναταλίας Μελά, του Lallane, του Xavier Corbeiro κ.ά.– και μοιάζει με τεράστια υπαίθρια γκαλερί. Από ένα χωριό δεν θα μπορούσαν να λείψουν τα ζώα. Γαϊδουράκια, κοτούλες, σκύλοι, γάτες όλα ζουν εδώ αρμονικά και σε πλήρη ελευθερία.

ΧΡΥΣΗ ΑΚΤΗ CHRYSSI AKTI Βρίσκεται ακριβώς απέναντι από τις Σπέτσες, 4 χλμ. από το Πόρτο Χέλι, στον οικισμό Άγιος Αιμιλιανός στην Κόστα. Αμμώδης παραλία με ρηχά νερά. / Chryssi Akti is just opposite the island of Spetses, 4km from Porto Heli, at Agios Emilianos in Kosta. It is a sandy, shallow beach.

ΛΕΠΙΤΣΑ / LEPITSA Βρίσκεται στον οικισμό Κοιλάδες, 6 χλμ. από το Πόρτο Χέλι. Ένας μικρός κόλπος με λευκή άμμο και ρηχά πρασινογάλανα νερά. Στην παραλία υπάρχουν αρκετά πεύκα, που προσφέρουν φιλόξενα τη σκιά τους, ενώ οι φοίνικες δίνουν εξωτική νότα στο τοπίο. / Lepitsa is in Kilades, 6km from Porto Heli. It is on a small bay with white sand and blue-green water. There are many pine trees on the beach, providing a welcome shade; palm trees lend an exotic flavour to the landscape. ΜΠΙΣΤΙ / BISTI Μικρή παραλία στις παρυφές πευκόφυτου λόφου, στον οποίο βρίσκεται ο υπαίθριος αρχαιολογικός χώρος της ακρόπολης της Ερμιόνης. Το Μπίστι είναι ιδανικό για περπάτημα με θέα τη θάλασσα, αλλά και για δροσιστικές βουτιές στα καθαρά νερά του. / Bisti is a small beach in foot of a hill covered in pine trees, right where the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Ermioni is situated. It is ideal for walks along the shore and it is refreshing to swim in the cool clear water.

ΧΙΝΙΤΣΑ / CHINITSA Η Χινίτσα είναι στην ουσία δύο αμμώδεις παραλίες (τις οποίες χωρίζει μια μικροσκοπική χερσόνησος), που βρίσκονται απέναντι από το ομώνυμο νησάκι σε ένα χαριτωμένο κόλπο κοντά στο Πόρτο Χέλι. Το χρώμα της θάλασσας εντυπωσιάζει με τις σμαραγδένιες αποχρώσεις του. / Chinitsa is the name of two beautiful sandy beaches (separated by a tiny peninsula,) located opposite the islet also named Chinitsa, on a charming bay next to Porto Heli bay. The sea has impressive shades of emerald green and turquoise.

ΚΟΥΝΟΥΠΙ / KOUNOUPI Η παραλία Κουνούπι (20 χλμ. από την Ερμιόνη) βρίσκεται σε θαυμάσια παρθένα πευκόφυτη περιοχή, στην ανατολική ακτή της χερσονήσου του Αγίου Αιμιλιανού. Στο Ναύπλιο η ιστορία είναι παρούσα σε κάθε βήμα μας, όπου και αν στρέψουμε το βλέμμα μας: η Ακροναυπλία, το Παλαμήδι και το Μπούρτζι, τα ενετικά, τα οθωμανικά και τα νεοκλασικά κτίρια και τα μνημεία της πόλης, οι προσφυγικές γειτονιές και τα κατάλοιπα της βιομηχανικής ανάπτυξης του περασμένου αιώνα μάς αποκαλύπτουν το παρελθόν της πόλης και εικονογραφούν τις σημαντικότερες περιόδους της ελληνικής ιστορίας. Η «Νάπολη της Ανατολής», όπως το ονόμασαν οι Ενετοί θαλασσοκράτες, άπλωσε τις ρίζες της, με σεβασμό στην ιστορικότητά του και το σημερινό Ναύπλιο, πρώτη πρωτεύουσα της Ελλάδος το 1828, με την άφιξη του Καποδίστρια, εξακολουθεί να κοσμείται με όλα τα παραδοσιακά του στοιχεία, ανέγγιχτα από το χρόνο. At Nafplio, one is confronted with history with every step on every turn: Acronafplia, Palamidi and Bourtzi, the Venetian, Ottoman and neoclassical buildings, the refugee neighborhoods and the remnants of the industrial revolution of the last century reveal the city’s past and characterize the most significant periods in Greek history. Nafplio is a unique place: mystic, blessed, teeming with natural beauty and culture. world Nafplio offers; the narrow and wide streets, the large old squares and the new small squares, and, the Ottoman fountains which grace the Venetian, neoclassical and new buildings, all architectural jewels. Acronafplia is the Acropolis of Nafplio.The Ottomans called it Iç Kale, which translates to “inner fortress.” The fortress was built by the Franks, passed on to the Byzantines and then the Ottomans. Kapodistrias built a church and hospital. The fortress later became the “Prison of Theodore Kolokotronis,” who was imprisoned there after being convicted of organizing a rebellion against the monarchy. Ioannis Mavromicahlis, who was accused of conspiracy like the Great Kolokotronis, was imprisoned in the same fortress in 1830. The craggy Acronafplia peninsula, which has been inhabited since prehistoric times, affords visitors an outstanding panoramic view: the Old Town, the spectacular Bourtzi, the magical Gulf of Nafplio, the charming Argolic planes and the beautiful beaches of Arvanitia. Nafplio is the ideal base for discovering the surrounding area as it is just 30 kilometres from Epidaurus, 25 kilometres from Mycenae and 4 kilometres from the archaeological site of Tirynth. Η Ακροναυπλία είναι η ακρόπολη του Ναυπλίου. Οι Οθωμανοί την ονόμαζαν Ιτς Καλέ, που σημαίνει εσωτερικό φρούριο. Το φρούριο χτίστηκε από τους Φράγκους, πέρασε στα χέρια των Βυζαντινών και μετά των Οθωμανών. Στα καποδιστριακά χρόνια, χτίστηκαν μια εκκλησία και ένα νοσοκομείο. Αργότερα, το φρούριο έγινε «Φυλακή του Θ. Κολοκοτρώνη», ο οποίος οδηγήθηκε εκεί με την κατηγορία της συμμετοχής και δράσης σε οργάνωση εναντίον του καθεστώτος. Για συνωμοσία κατηγορήθηκε και ο Ιωάννης Μαυρομιχάλης, που ακολούθησε το 1830 την τύχη του Γέρου του Μοριά, φυλακισθείς στο ίδιο φρούριο. Ο Βράχος της Ακροναυπλίας, κατοικημένος από τους προϊστορικούς χρόνους, προσφέρει στον επισκέπτη μια πανοραμική και εξαίρετη θέα: την Παλαιά Πύλη, το μοναδικό Μπούρτζι, τη μαγευτική παρουσία του κόλπου του Ναυπλίου, τη γοητεία του αργολικού κάμπου και τις ομορφιές της παραλίας της Αρβανιτιάς. Το Ναύπλιο είναι το καλύτερο ορμητήριο για μια επίσκεψη στις γύρω περιοχές, αφού απέχει μόλις 30 χλμ. από την Επίδαυρο, 25 χλμ. από τις Μυκήνες και 4 χλμ. από τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Τίρυνθας. There are two types of visitors who come to “Mοurayo” on Spetses: those who are interested in the history of the building, which dates back to before the Greek Revolution when it functioned as an ammunition storage facility and the others ... Who are the others? When Xynos met Niarchos Όταν Σταύρος Νιάρχος αγόρασε τη Σπετσοπούλα, ζήτησε να εγκαταλείψουν το νησί όσοι έμεναν εκεί. Στην πραγματικότητα, βέβαια, ο μόνος κάτοικος στη Σπετσοπούλα ήταν ο Δημήτρης Πετρούτσης, ο επονομαζόμενος «Ξυνός». Όφειλε το προσωνύμιό του στο γεγονός πως έπινε ό,τι του έδιναν, ακόμα και το ξίδι! Ο «Ξυνός» ήταν, κατά τις διηγήσεις όσων τον γνώρισαν, καλός άνθρωπος και γλεντζές με έφεση στο τραγούδι. Όταν, λοιπόν, έμαθε την εντολή του Νιάρχου, ζήτησε να τον δει. Η συνάντηση έγινε και ο «Ξυνός» είπε στον Νιάρχο: «Ο ουρανός κι η θάλασσα / έχουν το ίδιο χρώμα, / ο Νιάρχος και ο “Ξυνός” / θα μπουν στο ίδιο χώμα». Μόλις άκουσε την κουβέντα ο Νιάρχος, έδωσε εντολή να τον αφήσουν να μείνει στη Σπετσοπούλα, δίνοντάς του μάλιστα μισθό. Έτσι, του έφτιαξαν ένα σπίτι, όπου του πήγαιναν φαγητό, γιατί ο «Ξυνός» είχε χάσει πια το φως του.

When Stavros Niarchos bought Spetsopoula, he asked the residents of the island to leave. In reality, the only resident of Spetsopoula was Dimitris Petroutsis, whose nickname was “Xynos.” He got this nickname because he would drink whatever was given to him, even vinegar (“xydi” in Greek.) “Xynos” was, according to those who knew him, a good man who had an aptitude for singing and liked to enjoy himself. When he heard of Niarchos’ request, he asked to see him. The meeting took place and “Xynos” said to Niarchos, “The sky and the sea / have the same hue, / the same soil awaits ‘Xynos’ /and Niarchos too.” As soon as Niarchos heard these words, he gave the order to allow “Xynos” to stay on Spetsopoula, even paying him a salary. A house was built for him and food was brought to him, as “Xynos” had gone blind.
