I also feel one of the greatest reasons misunderstandings occur when people communicate is that one person is Nonverbal Communication already trying to talk back or formulating their ideas in their head while someone is trying to communicate with them. Active listening means having to put aside one's own thoughts and feelings about a topic for a moment to allow another person to express themselves wholly. After this, the person that wants to speak next should take a moment to paraphrase what the other person has said, so the other person is confident they understand the point of their communication.
