Eightfold path: basic rules of ____behavior_____ and __belief_____ leading to an end of suffering.

Right Thought: believe in the Four Noble Truths

Right Speech: Avoid lies and gossip

Right Livelihood: Reject work that hurts others

Right Intent: Lean toward goodness and kindness

Right action: Do not steal from or hurt others

Right Effort: Prevent evil and do good.

Right Mindfulness: Control your feelings & thoughts

Right Concentration: Practice proper meditation.

The laws of the __Eightfold____ __Path______ represent the Middle Way. The Middle Way is a way to live life according to Buddhists beliefs. This way of life was meant to be neither too strict nor too easy. Buddha’s ideas spread into many countries (Tibet, China, Sri Lanka, Japan, Korea, Thailand & Vietnam.

Not all Buddhists could agree on their beliefs so it split into two major branches:  Theravada: followed Buddha’s teachings exactly  Mahayana: believed that other people could interpret the Buddha's teaching to reach nirvana.

Buddha concluded that FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS rule life Life is full of suffering. No one can escape it.

Way to end suffering is to stop desiring worldly things. Only then, will a person reach nirvana, a state of perfect peace.

People suffer because they desire worldly things.

Way to stop desiring things is to follow the Eightfold Path.
