Academy Newsletter Summer 2017. Welcome to summer at Mallorca Tutoring Academy. Our thoughts are now turning to the wonderful summer days that we have on this glorious island. Over the last few weeks we have dedicated time to the plans and preparations for our summer activities at the centre. We can especially welcome back Rosheen; she is determined to make this year the best yet!. Whilst enquiries and bookings have been fantastic since the Easter break, we do still have a few spaces remaining. If you are interested and have not yet made up your mind as to what activities your children should do then please do not delay and contact us soon. Remember we have numerous options for all age groups in an environment that is conducive to learning and having great fun. Many of our students have been working very hard recently as they took their final examinations. We have seen some wonderful results in previous years and we are hoping that this year will be no exception. We are eagerly awaiting our IGCSE, A level and recent Cambridge examination results. Due in August. At this time of year we say ‘goodbye’ to many of our students who have completed their secondary or tertiary education and are moving into new pastures. We are always sad to see them go but are delighted to have been part of their development. We believe it is important to recognise the growth in each individual student and always spend time reviewing the point from where the student commenced their tutoring programme, how they have developed and what improvements have been made. We have recently spent time with many parents giving feedback and making our recommendations for ongoing support. We will continue this throughout the summer, if you have not had your consultation yet please ask Caroline to book your appointment. Of course we are fast approaching the time of year when normal school life is over for at least 10 weeks, so many of you can look forward to relaxing and re-charging your batteries. Our island has a wealth of activities for children of all ages during the wonderful summer days. Sometimes it is difficult to know where to direct them best. Simple pleasures like enjoying the beach and water can often satisfy even the most demanding child. We are so fortunate we have these options. Often the view can be that school is constricting and summer is freedom. School is boring and summer is fun. As ever, at MTA we believe in getting the right balance. Swimming, sailing, horse riding, walking, biking are all educational activities in their own right. Blend these activities with learning through games, crafts, projects, reading and writing and for many students this is the perfect combination. We know that at our centre we can and will provide the educational stimulus that will ensure that brains do not shut down before school starts again in September.
Enjoy your holiday period, keep your mind active and be ready to return to school with confidence

Academy Newsletter Summer 2017.

Why Summer @ MTA 2017? Spring 2016. An effective camp provides the opportunity for children to hone in their life-skills and enhance their cognitive and behavioural development. It is well documented that whilst summer camp can be a power tool for summer learning-loss prevention, it also can benefit your child’s developmental growth. According to the Search Institute, children actually have seven developmental needs: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
Physical Activity Competence and Achievement Self-Definition Creative Self-Expression Positive Social Interactions Structure and Clear Limits Meaningful Participation
Summer camp can address each of these needs, and can do so in a nurturing, fun environment. So what makes the activities undertaken in these camps such an important part of ongoing brain development? Think back to your own childhood and chances are that you remember doing a creative craft project with your primary teacher or an interactive science experiment during your early school days more than you can recall many other topics covered while sitting passively in class. According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, children learn best by engaging in hands-on activities that encourage them to experience the world around them through their senses. In order to address these needs the key activities our MTA tutors encourage fall generally into four categories:
Exploration Critical thinking and problem solving. Knowledge and content. Learning and memory as the final important step.
Porque verano @ MTA 2017? Spring 2016.
