Carus Corporation formed the Carus Remediation Technologies (CRT) which offers products for in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), bioremediation (BIO), and in situ chemical reduction (ISCR). CRT continually evaluates our product offerings and works hard to bring you products that help to simplify science without sacrificing the high quality products or the excellent customer support that we are recognized for. RemOx® S and RemOx® L ISCO reagents (potassium and sodium permanganate) provide the remediation industry with the highest purity product. RemOx® is the trusted oxidant of choice for chlorinated ethane (and other contaminats) treatment since it is a single component that does not require activation or pH adjustment. RemOx SR is a solid paraffin wax matrix with ~80% potassium permanganate developed to meet a need for more passive treatment. CAP 18® and CAP 18 ME® for anaerobic bioremediation are unsaturated vegetable oil-based products that provide a long-term carbon source for anaerobic bioremediation. Economically, the CAP 18 products provide a much higher hydrogen yield per pound at a lower cost since are non-emulsified and sold and injected at a 100% concentration. The difference in the cost of hydrogen yield, coupled with the increased cost of injecting larger volumes of fluids, can make the emulsified oil applications significantly more expensive than a non-emulsified application. CRT can provide Solvay IXPER® 75C and 70C Calcium Peroxide products for aerobic bioremediation: high quality products that are cost competitive and offer a long-term oxygen source. CRT markets the NASA developed EZVI reduction product: an emulsion of micro-particle iron, surfactant, oil, and water that reductively dechlorinates halogenated hydrocarbons. It is a sustainable, green product that completely biodegrades in the subsurface after sequestering and destroying the contaminants. EZVI has the ability to mix with DNAPL making EZVI a “source remediation” technology.

Combined sciences Deltares is the expert institute for different water, subsurface and infrastructural  issues, covering and integrating both natural and social sciences. This combination of our different areas of expertise  often leads to innovative solutions.   Examples of our research topics are Soil and Water Quality, Urban Land and Water management, Spatial planning and Ecology, SmartSoils, Integrated Water Resources Management and Flood Risk Management. Land and soil are not only used for building or for growing crops: energy is stored in the subsurface and we more often use the subsurface space to construct. Deltares studies the impact of all these “disruptive” pressures. Our incentive is to create an optimal balance between environmental improvements, costs and public support. Expert services & working together We survey, predict and advise. We develop advanced computer models and put them into practice; we conduct measurements and develop new techniques in our own laboratories. In addition, we develop monitoring programs, indicators and assessment frameworks, to test compliance with national and European regulations. The essence of our work is the development, application and sharing of knowledge. We constantly extend our knowledge base via government research programs and contract research, forming consortia with universities and other research institutes. Knowledge is Deltares’ core business.

Field-Proven Technologies for the Remediation of Soil, Groundwater, and Sediment The Soil and Groundwater Remediation team provides a portfolio field-proven sustainable technologies that cause contaminant destruction on site in soil and groundwater via in situ or ex situ application. Our portfolio of technologies effect chemical oxidation or chemical reduction of organic contaminants causing mineralization. Synergistically contaminant biodegradation can be stimulated in soil and groundwater by addition of safe and cost-effective benign reagents such as oxygen, sulfate and plant derived carbohydrate. Remedial solution design can be supported to eliminate a broad range of recalcitrant organic pollutants and metals in soil, groundwater, and sediment.  Over the years, we have successfully treated millions of liters of groundwater, and more than ten million metric tons of soil impacted by hazardous contaminants on five continents around the globe. We work collaboratively with consultants, engineers, site owners, regulators and the academic community to recommend customized solutions for the unique requirements of each project. Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ Permoserstraße 15 04318 Leipzig Germany

Urbaser S.A [email protected] Tel: +34  91 412 20 00 Fax: +34  91 624 09 07 www.urbaser.es

Tel: +49 341 235 -1033 Fax +49 341 235 -451033 [email protected] www.ufz.de As an international competence centre for the environmental sciences, the UFZ investigates the complex interactions between mankind and nature under the influence of global change. In close cooperation with decision-makers and stakeholders, scientists at the UFZ develop system solutions to improve the management of complex environmental systems and to tackle environmental issues. For example, we work on the management of water resources, the impacts of land use change on human landscapes and biodiversity, the impacts of chemicals in the environment and on human health as well as adaptation strategies for climate change. Successful solutions require a solid scientific basis. But this is not sufficient. Environmental research, which is usually dominated by the natural sciences, has to become increasingly linked to the human, social and legal sciences. Environmental research must be guided by environmental issues and has to deal with reference to practice, complexity and uncertainty. This requires exchanging knowledge, developing a common understanding and communication, consolidating different competences and fields of expertise, integrating decision-makers and stakeholders from politics, the economy and the public – in short the highest level of integration possible. This is the challenge that we – the 1100 people working at the UFZ – face. It is our mission to suggest ways that ensure a balance between economic and societal development on the one hand and the long-term protection of our natural resource base on the other. The UFZ invites you to visit following projects at the exhibition: •

Soil exploration – Radon-technique for localization of subsurface mineral oil-contamination,

Soil microbial activity – Direct-Push probe for microbial insitu activity measurement,

IWRM – Integrated Water Resources Management,

IWAS – International Water Research Alliance Saxony,

TERENO-MED – Integrated Global Change observatory network in the Mediterranean region.
