To give you an idea, the entire United Kingdom will fit into Western Australia alone nearly 10 times and New Zealand fits 9 times into Western Australia! Western Australia is 1/3 the land area of Australia with 1/10th of the population and you can fit most of Europe into Australia with room to spare! The climate ranges from cool at the South to extremely hot in the North. WA also has a large agriculture base, especially wheat farming, along with sheep stations in the South West of WA and very large cattle stations in the North of the State. These offer many ranges of agriculture jobs, from seeding and Combine harvester operations, to large sheep farms in the mid and lower inland WA. Tractor driving at seeding and Header or Combine Harvesters along with truck driving at harvest time, plus there are usually some general farm - stock and fencing type work on offer. Work can depend upon the amount and timing of the rains. The Australian Continent The continent of Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere. It has a huge area of nearly 7 ¾ million square kilometres. (4.8 million sq miles) and is the world's sixth largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil and offers a vast range of employment opportunities, especially in rural areas.

The Wheat Belt: Farm sizes in WA can vary from a 1000 to over 20000 hectares (45,000 acres) The crops harvested are mainly cereals crops, such as Wheat, Barley, Oats and Canola etc, The area known as the 'Wheat Belt' where most of the grain is grown, extends inland from Geraldton, in an inland strip right the way down to Esperance in the States South.

Seeding and Harvest jobs: The seeding season in West Australia usually starts around April/May to June/July, depending on when the rains start after the dry summer. Tractor Operators for Air seeders Spray Boom Operators Truck Drivers Fertiliser Spreading Farmhands Cooks Tractors are operated 24 hours a day. 2 men on a 12 hour shift arrangement. (night & day) Harvest: Harvest commences with haymaking & swathing in October with Headers starting to operate at the end of October. Harvest is usually over by Christmas with some seasons & later Districts going into January. This varies according to the State & Season. Harvest positions include: Swathing (Windrowing). Working in Australia A valid work visa is required, go to The Department of Immigration website. New Zealanders do not require a work visa for Australia, your passport entry stamp serves as a work visa without time restrictions on working in Australia. Applicants must have a valid Drivers Licence, without a Drivers Licence, we cannot place you. You will be required to present your valid work visa and drivers licence to your Employer. Wages Rates vary from State to State. Seasonal work. The hourly rate varies from $18-$28. The vast majority of Staff are in the $20 - $25 range. Seasonal work - Western Australia offers the best Seasonal rates of pay. Seasonal workers are required in some instances to do general farm work waiting for weather etc. Workers Compensation You are covered by your Employers Workers Compensation should an accident occur while working. Travel Insurance/Medical is recommended before you leave home. Some countries have a recepical agreement with Australia, i.e. New Zealand. Please check this out and if required obtain your own private medical insurance before leaving home. Accommodation & Meals Accommodation is nearly always provided on Farms in all States of Australia that we place Staff to. Meals are provided by most of our Employers, especially in Western Australia. Accomodation & Meals are usually provided free of charge, particulary in Western Australia. Accommodation varies from living in with family, to sharing a house with other Staff, to single men's quarters. If you are employed by a Agricultural Contractor, accommodation can vary from on farms to Hotels and Motels when travelling.
