Job description Purpose of role To provide high quality management information and support to Hospice UK’s Director of Finance and Operations and project managers. To manage the day to day record keeping and accounting of the charity and the trading company to produce accurate and timely reports.
Key tasks and responsibilities 1. Line management Managing three staff responsible for the sales and purchase ledgers, income records, bank reconciliations, and providing management information to the fundraising team.

2. Management reporting Ensuring the efficient maintenance of the financial records of the charity and trading company. Produce timely, accurate and relevant monthly management accounts information of the charity, trading company and national professional associations, including commentary on significant areas and variances from budgets. Producing other reports and recommendations as appropriate. 3. Courses & conferences Reviewing and approving budgets for all courses and conferences organised by Hospice UK, monitoring performance and assisting the courses and conference team to manage the business unit in a commercial manner. 4. Controls and procedures Following established procedures and policies and, with the guidance of the Director of Finance and Operations, improving systems and controls surrounding all aspects of the charity’s financial management. Reconciliation of control accounts, inter-company account and regular review of nominal ledger, aged debtors and aged creditors. 5. Audit and year end In close cooperation with the Director of Finance and Operations, preparation of the year end statutory accounts and audit file of the charity and the trading subsidiary. Administration of the payment of Gift Aid and management charges from the trading company to the charity. Liaison with the charity’s external auditors. 6. Payroll Responsible for processing the payroll on a monthly basis. 7. VAT Produce and review the quarterly VAT return. Review partial exemption calculation 8. Budget Assist the finance director in preparing the annual budget. Work with budget holders to review performance against budget and monitor the overall organisations finances to ensure we are operating within the agreed budget 9. Support for non finance staff Providing financial support and training to budget holders and project managers.
Investigating with budget holders variances from budgets and analysing potential problems. Making appropriate recommendations and advising on the impact on the charity. 10. Support for Director of Finance and Operations To support the Director of Finance and Operations in all other financial management and administration matters including payments under PAYE and VAT administration. To deputise for the Director of Finance and Operations when necessary. 11. Other duties To utilise automated practices wherever possible to maximise efficiency and minimise administrative duplication. To maintain familiarity and understanding of developments within Hospice UK and the hospice movement. To provide cover for, and complement the work of, other finance staff. To attend the finance and risk committee and lead on items delegated by the committee as appropriate. Any other duties that may be reasonably requested, commensurate with ability and experience

£45,000 per annum
Probation period
The probationary period is six months
Notice period

Work Pattern
Full time, 35 hours per week

You will be auto enrolled into our pension scheme which is at 4%. Further contributions can be made to the scheme and Hospice UK will match contributions of up to 7% of your gross salary.
