Fourth Flatirons Food Film Festival adds more sizzle to schedule Final schedule adds new guest speakers, new programs to 2016 Festival Oct. 20-24 BOULDER, Colo. (October 4, 2016) – Tickets and passes for the fourth annual Flatirons Food Film Festival are now on sale at www.flatironsfoodfilmfest.org. In addition to legendary restaurant critic Jonathan Gold of the LA Times and Chef Hosea Rosenberg, Bravo TV’s Top Chef Season 5 winner and chef and owner of Blackbelly Market, the festival has added the following distinguished national and local speakers: ● Bryan Dayton, former president of the Colorado Bartenders’ Guild and co-owner of OAK at fourteenth, Acorn, and Brider restaurants, who will introduce a short film on Tokyo’s Bar High Five, ICE DIAMONDS AND COCKTAILS AT BAR HIGH FIVE, that is part of the festival’s tribute to the Munchies website and digital video channel from VICE dedicated to all things food on Friday, Oct. 21st. He will also create a 2016 festival signature cocktail. ● Chad Pettrone, Sustainability Director at Northeast Seafood Products, who will introduce a short film on oysters that is part of the festival’s tribute to Munchies on Friday, Oct. 21st. ● Hass Hassan, natural foods industry pioneer and original co-founder of Alfalfa's Markets, who will introduce FEAR NO FRUIT on Saturday, Oct. 22nd. ● Dustin Wilson, Master Sommelier and participant in both SOMM films, who will introduce SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE and participate in a Q&A session on Saturday, Oct. 22nd. ● Peter Svatek, Montreal-based director of THEATER OF LIFE, who will introduce his film, and participate in a Q&A session, and a panel discussion on food waste on Sunday, Oct. 23rd. ● Philip Taylor, founder of Mad Agriculture, whose first innovation is sustainable animal feed that aims to replace unsustainable feed ingredients like fish and soybeans, who will introduce JUST EAT IT and be part of a panel discussion on food waste on Sunday, Oct. 23rd.

Additional NEW special programs As a fun way of supporting the festival, select local restaurants will offer a “munchie,” alluding to the festival’s evening devoted to Munchies short films on Friday, Oct. 21 at eTown Hall. A munchie will be a small plate or appetizer that will be available from Oct. 10-24. Wild Standard, The Roadhouse Boulder Depot, and other select locally owned establishments will participate in the program. A full list of restaurants and their munchies will be posted to the Flatirons Food Film Festival’s website and social media. As part of its Wasted Sunday afternoon event on food waste on Sunday, Oct. 23, the festival has added a panel discussion on food waste, which will explore similarities and differences in approaching food waste in North America and Europe as well as the role of creativity and innovation in addressing this issue. The overall Wasted Sunday event will consist of screenings of two films on food waste, JUST EAT IT and THEATER OF LIFE, snacks that chefs Matthew Collier of Seeds Library Café and Joshua Pollack of Rosenberg Bagels and Delicatessen will prepare from food waste, and the panel discussion. THEATER OF LIFE just made its international premiere at the San Sebastian festival in Spain where it won the Tokyo Gohan Award for best culinary film. It will screen at the Flatirons Food Film Festival immediately after its US premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival. The festival is also collaborating with Chefs Collaborative and the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association on another event devoted to sustainability, “Taste the Wild: Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon Dinner” at Basta in Boulder on Monday Oct. 24 at 6pm. Bristol Bay sockeye salmon are wildly abundant and chefs Joshua Pollack of Rosenberg’s Bagels and Delicatessen, Kelly Whitaker of Basta, and Kyle Mendenhall of Arcana will each prepare special sockeye courses for this intimate multi-course family-style dinner. SOMM: INTO THE BOTTLE, Saturday, Oct. 22, 4pm, $9/$10 (Boulder Public Library, followed by a wine tasting for those 21+ from 6-7:15pm that is open also to ticket holders of the next movie, CITY OF GOLD)—a documentary in which some of the world’s most famous winemakers and sommeliers unravel what makes wine a compelling elixir.

THEATER OF LIFE, Sunday, Oct.23, 2pm, $9/$10 (CU-Boulder)—a documentary about “Refettorio Ambrosiano,” an extraordinary soup kitchen in Milan created by internationally known chef Massimo Bottura. Forty of the world's best chefs, including Ferran Adria, Rene Redzepi, Alain Ducasse, Daniel Humm and many others, donated their time cooking meals there as well. We will screen it the week after its US premiere.
