Overview This guide provides general information you need to use the solution “SAP Solution Manager 7.2 & Focused Solutions Demo System with SAP S/4HANA”. The purpose of this solution is to allow SAP customers and partners to evaluate and test all functional areas of SAP Solution Manager 7.2 (ST 720 SP05) including Focused Solutions (ST-OST 200 SP01). The solution consists of a preconfigured SAP Solution Manager 7.2 system and S/4HANA 1610 as a managed system.

The solution gives you access to your own copy of a preconfigured SAP Solution Manager 7.2 system. Additional configuration (such as Fiori Launchpad, Best Practices, demo data, etc.) or additional software components (such as managed system S/4HANA, Introscope Enterprise Manager, Adobe Document Services, Windows remote desktop, etc.) have been applied after the installation was performed. The solution will help you to jumpstart projects in the cloud, which require this kind of preconfigured system setup.

Scenario Description The following key value chains of SAP Solution Manager 7.2 are available with all their functionalities: • • • •

2 Accessing the Solution

Overview The solution consists of a frontend server and the backend systems (such as SAP Solution Manager and SAP S/4HANA). You can access your system either via frontend server using remote desktop (option 1) or from your local computer using your installed client tools (option 2). The solution can also be accessed on OS level. For more information, see Connecting to a Solution Instance.

Option 1: Connection via Frontend Server Connect to the frontend server using the information in the table below. You can also configure manually your Remote Desktop client. From there you can easily connect to your systems. Most connections are already preconfigured. For more information, how to connect to the Frontend Server, see Connecting to a Solution Instance. Name

Value

Description

IP Address

The IP address of your frontend server instance you created in SAP CAL.

User

Administrator

User for the Windows frontend server. Note: Only one user is allowed to logon at the front-end server at the same point in time.

Password

The initial master password of the system you provided in the SAP Cloud Appliance Library when creating the instance.

On the frontend server, you can find the following tools: • • •

MS Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox as a web frontend SAP Logon/SAP GUI with a preconfigured connection to your systems (SAP Solution Manager system A4H, SAP S/4HANA system S4H) SAP Dev Tools for Eclipse, which opens SAP HANA Studio with preconfigured connections to all SAP HANA databases

6

Option 2: Connection from Local Computer 2.3.1 Mapping local /etc/hosts file You can also connect from your local computer. For this you need to change some local network settings. Adapt your local /etc/hosts file to map the following hosts to the system’s network IP. For this, add the following entries: IP address

Host Names

vhcalhdbdba vhcalhdbdba.dummy.nodomain vhcala4hsmci vhcala4hsmci.dummy.nodomain vhcala4hsmcs vhcala4hsmcs.dummy.nodomain abapci abapci.dummy.nodomain # ABAP Stack A4H

vhcals4hci vhcals4hci.dummy.nodomain vhcals4hcs vhcals4hcs.dummy.nodomain vhcalhdbdb vhcalhdbdb.dummy.nodomain # ABAP Stack S4H

vhcalj2eci vhcalj2eci.dummy.nodomain vhcalj2ecs vhcalj2ecs.dummy.nodomain vhcalj2edb vhcalj2edb.dummy.nodomain # Java Stack S4H

If you work on our local computer, we recommend installing SAP Frontend (SAP GUI) and a web browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer) on your machine. If you need access to the database, you can install SAP HANA Studio.

2.3.2 Configure ";*.dummy.nodomain" for Web Browser Working with the might require changes in your web browser, in case there is a web proxy defined (if you are unsure or detect connectivity issues, please contact your network administrator): 1.

2.

If you are using Google Chrome as web browser, follow these steps: a. Logon to Chrome  Settings  Show Advanced Settings  Network  Change proxy settings  LAN Settings  Proxy Server  Advanced b. In the Exceptions, add ;*.dummy.nodomain directly at the end of the existing entry. c. Click OK. If you are using Internet Explorer as web browser, follow these steps: a. Logon to Internet Explorer  Internet Options  Connections  LAN Settings  Proxy Server  Advanced b. In the Exceptions, add ;*.dummy.nodomain direct at the end of the existing entry. c. Click OK.

3 Post-Activities after Instance Creation

Post-Activities after Instance Creation In general, the solution is completely configured and working. However, after the creation of an instance it might be necessary to do some instance specific configurations, such as applying licenses (see “Licenses”), maintaining S-users, etc. to get everything fully working for your personal system environment. For more information please check SAP note 2525135.

SAP Solution Manager without SAP S/4HANA When creating a new instance from SAP CAL solution it is possible to create a SAP Solution Manager only instance without the SAP S/4HANA managed system. This might cause some unexpected error messages or ratings in your SAP Solution Manager configuration, since RFC destinations do not find the managed system. For most demo cases, you can just ignore these error messages. But if you want to cleanup your SAP Solution Manager configuration from managed system SAP S/4 HANA you can check SAP note 2525211 more details.

4 Licenses

Running Solution as a Trial for a Free Period This solution can be used with a Free Trial License Agreement for the configured free period. You will be asked to agree to the Free Trial License Agreement during the instantiation steps. Once you create the solution instance, the SAP system will generate a temporary license key that is sufficient for exploration purpose. After the expiration of the pre-installed temporary license a valid license is required to keep using the solution instance. Note that you are not allowed to install license keys under the Free Trial License Agreement. You can continue the usage of the solution with the Product License Agreement any time prior to the end of the free period by unlocking it.

Running Solution with a Product License Key To use the instance created from this solution under your own SAP Product License Agreements, you should unlock the solution in SAP Cloud Appliance Library. As a prerequisite, you must own the required SAP Product licenses and need to purchase the SAP Cloud Appliance Library subscription package. For more information, see Unlocking Solutions.

License Key Installation Many functionalities in SAP Solution Manager rely on a valid installation number. Therefore, after unlocking the solution, you need to apply a valid license key to it. To check the Product and the Version for your solution, go to the SAP License Keys application: https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/licensekey For more information about how to request and install product license keys, see this blog.

5 Security Aspects

Be aware that creating your instances in the public zone of your cloud computing platform is convenient but less secure. Ensure that only port 22 (SSH) is opened when working with Linux-based solutions and port 3389 (RDP) when working with Windows based solutions. In addition, we also recommend that you limit the access to your instances by defining a specific IP range in the Access Points settings, using CIDR notation. The more complex but secure alternative is to set up a virtual private cloud (VPC) with VPN access, which is described in this tutorial on SCN. The list below describes the ports opened for the security group formed by the server components of your solution instance: To access back-end servers on the operating system (OS) level, use the following information: Protocol

Port

Description

SSH

22

Used for SSH connection to Linux-based servers

RDP

3389

Used for RDP connection to Windows based servers

You must change the initial user passwords provided by SAP when you log onto the system for the first time. Note that when using HANA based appliances, HANA systems are not installed individually but cloned from a template system. Because of this cloning process, the existing root keys are cloned. For more information, see this SAP Note 2134846 - HANA encryption key handling during system cloning. For more information about security vulnerabilities, see this community page.
