Gifted Identification Testing Overview School-Based Testing

Testing is available three times throughout the school year, for all existing kindergarten through 6th grade students who attend a DVUSD school. If your child is currently enrolled in (and attending) a DVSUD school, your child’s school can inform you of the exact test date(s). Testing will take place during the school day. Each school will determine the specific testing schedule they will use within the above-mentioned guidelines. There is no fee for school based testing on in-district students. If you would like your child tested, you need to notify the school's Gifted Specialist and your child's teacher. Please do not assume they will be automatically tested. District Office Testing

In addition to the school-based testing, testing is available at our district office in the spring and summer. Testing at the district office is primarily meant for students not currently enrolled in one of our district schools and will require a testing fee of $100. Students who are currently enrolled in a DVUSD school who do not test at their school, during the school year, can test at the district office for a fee of $50. To register for a test at the district office, please use the online sign-up below. Private Testing

Parents/Guardians are able to seek outside/private testing for gifted identification. If you feel that your child would benefit from outside, one-on-one testing, you may choose to have your child tested by a private, licensed psychologist. Children must be at least 5 years old, and currently be in or have completed Kindergarten, in order to participate in our school and district identification testing. DVUSD is not currently providing gifted identification testing for children for preschool, prekindergarten, or entry into Kindergarten. If you would like your child tested before the spring of their kindergarten year, you may look into having them tested privately by a licensed psychologist using a test approved by the state of Arizona. Parents are responsible for all costs associated with private testing. Information on Private Identification Testing (PDF) Academic Testing

This testing is for students applying for the Renaissance program who do not have academic data required for the application. (Tests that show current math and reading abilities/levels.) Students will take an SRI reading test to determine their reading/Lexile level and two short district math assessments. Students cannot do both the Academic and gifted testing on this date due to the length of the testing sessions. It is recommended that students test for gifted identification first, they then can come academic testing if needed. Academic testing takes place at the district office on April 7th. The cost is $50 and you can sign up electronically below.
