Sadly, we will not have time to completely watch DARWIN'S DANGEROUS IDEA (~ 2 hours). However, if you find time over break, I highly recommend that you watch it to enrich your understanding of the history leading up to Darwin's book "On the Origin of Species." Wed 1/21 - In class: Watch Bill Nye GM Foods. (24:57) While watching the film, you will make a copy of THIS DOCUMENT, fill it in and show it to me on your iPAD for credit when done. No homework. Thu 1/22 & Fri 1/23 - In class: Turn in/finish outstanding work. Read two of the following three articles: What's on Your Genes? Foul Play Twins don't share everything! After reading 2 of the 3 articles above, "make a copy" google doc to respond to this QUESTION: "Does DNA Determine Destiny?" You should write 1-2 paragraphs (CER style). 7-10 complete sentences. Do not "share." Do not "print." Just show me your finished work on the iPAD for credit. - No homework.
Mon 1/12 - In class: Group read 6.1 and then finish pages 5, 7-8 in G.G.P. Homework: Read 6.2 in book and study for closed notes POP quiz this week. For full credit you must write out the questions and answers in complete sentences or express each answer in a thick, complete sentence. Mon 11/10 - Cells Unit Test (100 points) - Open Notes, closed binder! Homework - Bring in 2 or more magazines (Nat Geo, Sports Ill, Food, Travel, etc...) on Wednesday 11/12 for a collage project on Biodiversity. The magazines can be old or new. They must be middle school appropriate. If you don't have any at home, check with libraries or trusted neighbors (with parent permission). Many people like to recycle their old magazines. Tue 11/11 - No school in honor of Veteran's Day. Reminder: Term 1 Extra Credit is due by Monday, Nov 17th. You must get your XC approved before submission.
Wed 11/12 - Biodiversity Collage Project Day 1. [BIO-COLL-PROJ-RUBRIC] Homework - Get your Cells Unit Test Signed by a parent and bring it back at our next meeting. Note - Extra Credit is due Monday, Nov 17th! Recall that it must be approved before you turn it in! Thu 11/13 & Fri 11/14 - Biodiversity Collage Project Day 2.
Mon 11/3 - In class - We will make a 7 x 7 Root Word Cross word puzzle. Then we will read about "Protists" Pgs 334-343. Complete the Section 3 Assessment on Pg 343 (finish for HW) Extra Credit Explained. Click on THIS XC TEMPLATE. * Extra Credit due by Monday, November 17th. Homework = Organize your science binder for the OPEN NOTES test on Monday, November 10th. Yes, this is a new date. Make sure that you have all of your labs, slides from lecture, film notes and guided readings. Tue 11/4 - In Class: Sorting Activity. Mini Lecture (Kingdom Protista). Start Kingdom Protista Coloring (We will finish this packet in class tomorrow). Homework - watch THIS VIDEO (5:06) and organize your science binder for Monday's TEST. Wed 11/5 - In Class: Watch BIODIVERSITY OF PROTISTS (20:01) and then finish Protist Coloring Packet.
Thu 11/6 & Fri 11/7 - Observing Protists LAB. Homework - Have your science binder organized for... Open Notes Test(100 points) new date = Monday, November 10th. This test will cover Cell Structure, Function, Processes and basic Taxonomy (Kingdoms).

HW - Make sure that you understand the general equation for Photosynthesis (reactants & products). Also, be sure to know which cell structure performs Photosynthesis. What color is that structure?
