BACKGROUND German funded project with 1600 beneficiaries Targeted areas: Kabul, Logar, Wardak, Balkh and Kunduz provinces Objectives: Assist farmers to increase cattle production Develop processing and marketing structures for dairy products Develop organizational structures for the management of the dairy schemes 4. 4. INCREASE CATTLE PRODUCTION Improvement of genetic potential Health Services Fodder Crop Activities Animal Feed production in AFG Improvement in cattle housing Training and capacity building 5. 5. Organizational Structure for the Dairy Unions 5 6. 6. RESULTS River of Milk (3 minute video) 7. 7. LESSONS LEARNED Decision making power of women increased from 35% to 66% The participatory approach encouraged community participation Establishment of the Milk Collecting Centers was a key facility Farmers were motivated to participate in the dairy business 8. 8.
