Course Overview The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing is designed for learners who work in or wish to pursue a career in hairdressing. The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing provides the necessary skills and knowledge that prove occupational competence as a junior stylist. This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required to provide hairdressing services for all hair types. The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing covers a range of skills and knowledge such as cutting, drying, styling, colouring and lightening, shampooing and adding hair. The course duration is at least 12 months. To achieve the City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing, learners must achieve a minimum of 64 credits overall. 55 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units, and a minimum of 9 credits must be achieved from the optional units. The mandatory units are: Style and Finish Hair Set and Dress Hair Cut Hair Using Basic Techniques Colour and Lighten Hair Advise and Consult with Clients Shampoo, Condition and Treat the Hair and Scalp Develop and Maintain Your Effectiveness at Work The optional units are: Temporarily Attach Hair to Enhance a Style Fulfil Salon Reception Duties Learners will need to undertake online tests to demonstrate their knowledge in their chosen units.

Entry Requirements To apply for the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship (City and Guilds) Hairdressing there are no mandatory entry requirements for this Apprenticeship framework. However Employers are looking to attract applicants who have a keen interest in Hairdressing and demonstrate a “can do" attitude and have at least basic numeracy and literacy skills on which the Apprenticeship will build. You will be invited to attend an Interview with the related Curriculum area to give advice and guidance about the job role and qualification. You will be required to undertake initial assessments in Maths and English. To be an apprentice you need to be working a minimum of 30 hours per week in the related occupation of your chosen apprenticeship and be at least 16 years old.
