Biography Harriett Jernigan earned her BA in creative writing from the University of Alabama and her PhD in German Studies at Stanford University. At USF, she principally teaches RHET 206, Writing for the Sciences. Harriett's interests include creative writing, second language acquisition (SLA), cognitive grammar (CG), and gender studies. She has published short stories as well as research articles on applications of CG in SLA and writing courses. She is currently examining the relationship between transculturation and malapropisms. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes relevant, student-centered, project-based instruction that stretches across the disciplines and builds community.
