I just bought this and I am super excited. The artwork on the cover is really badass. I also really loved the Heroes of the Orient book. I hope to put it into a game really soon.
Marc A Dec 7, 2017 9:49 am Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Hi Zach, Thank you so much for your kind words :) I wish you many fun adventures in the Orient!

Great product! Looks very professional and is very well constructed. I wish all official 5e books were as throughout as this one.
Marc A May 9, 2017 3:01 pm Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Thank you, Frederic. That means a lot :)

What's going on with the artwork? The content seems interesting but the artwork on the cover seems a little off putting to new female gamers.
Marc A Apr 6, 2017 1:33 pm Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Hi Phil, Nothing's going on with the artwork. It's a strong, empowered female kensai, bonding with her weapon after a long rest. I don't see why it would be off putting. I see a beautiful piece of art, nothing more.
Ashley K Apr 8, 2017 4:07 am Asia/Jakarta So why does she have to be half-naked to bond with a weapon? This art is neither "strong" or "empowered" it's just a woman with a weapon and side-boob intended to draw the eye of a male purchaser of this product. This same concept could have been done 200 different ways without the side-boob.

Hi Ashley, She doesn't have to be half-naked. And it could have been done many other ways, sure. I just don't see why it can't be this as well. I feel like the artist did an amazing job with this. Please don't presume to know my intentions though. It's prejudicial and rude, and I'd like to keep the tone respectful. But I'll try to explain: This is a small title that I made when Heroes of the Orient: Player's and DM's Companion became a platinum best seller. It's meant as a thank you to all those that have purchased it. And this title is pretty much unusable without the other title. Heroes of the Orient: Player's and DM's Companion is $ 9.99 and shows no skin at all on the cover. My first title, Epic Characters, is also a $ 9.99 platinum best seller. It also shows no skin. If I wanted to attract the eyes of males the way you describe, wouldn't I do it on the products that have a price tag, rather than the one that is free?...See more

I would have gone with the fact then you would be able to see her cool tate.
Marc A Apr 17, 2017 7:51 pm Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
That is a big part of the reason I find it beautiful, yes.
Robert L Oct 23, 2017 3:44 am Asia/Jakarta Respect your work, sir. Please don't succumb to the trolling vigilantes. I thought it was a lovely piece of art.
Matthew C Jan 25, 2018 12:26 am Asia/Jakarta Phil, thanks for pointing this out. I was about to buy Monsters of the Orient and Epic Players, but man yeah if the creator can't acknowledge or apologize to FEMALE players, then yeah I have no need to spend my money. As someone who helps plan gaming events at cons, I'm always looking for add ons for D&D, it curbs meta-gaming. I was excited to see asian inspired dragons. Part of the reason AL is so dominated men is because of this refusal to acknowledge how women feel or that our community can be toxic. I mean I know groups of girls who run campaigns, many. It's not like Critical Role hasn't cause a huge surge in girls wanting to play or anything.... I run a group that is 4 girls and 4 guys, it's because we listen to all of our players that our group is supper accepting. If someone feels marginalized, its your job as a DM to acknowledge that and reflect on your own line of thinking and practice. Thanks Marc for keeping it classy!

For the Ring of Fire spellfire incantation, do creatures take fire damage when you move closer to them?
Marc A Mar 30, 2017 11:56 am Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Hi there, It does indeed! "A creature takes the same damage when it enters the ring for the first time on a turn..." A turn, not just its turn. It doesn't take the damage if it starts its turn inside the fire though. Only when it enters on a turn or if it ends its turn there.

Can the Zerth Elocater add its bonus after the roll is made?
Marc A Mar 15, 2017 5:53 am Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
The intention is, that it can be added after the roll, but before the outcome is determined.
Mar 15, 2017 2:44 am Asia/Jakarta PURCHASER
Can the Spellfire Incanter really only use Legacy maneuvers? Based on the description, I would think they could also use Weave Maneuvers.
Mar 15, 2017 3:01 am Asia/Jakarta PURCHASER
Also, is the Spellfire Incanter not supposed to gain a Fighting Style?
Marc A Mar 15, 2017 5:49 am Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Hi there, The spellfire incanter is indeed supposed to have a fighting style. In the next update, they'll gain the Dueling fighting style at 1st level. They aren't intended to have Weave Maneuvers, however. Their connection to the Weave is through their spellfire teachings, which is based on fire and incantations. They deal damage with fire magic, but the remaining incantations are more defensive or utility based. However, it wouldn't diminish anything if a DM allowed a spellfire incanter to choose between Elemental Empowerment and Ki-Sight from among the Weave Maneuvers. If it were me I'd allow it, with Elemental Empowerment being restricted to the fire option. If you are playing a spellfire incanter in a campaign, I'd love to hear about the experience.

Will the Soulknife take inspiration from the Unearthed Arcana Mystic Soulknife?
Marc A Mar 14, 2017 5:36 pm Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
I do think they did an awesome job on the soulknife in particular. Being inspired by what they do with their UA stuff is unavoidable I think. Whether I'll try to adapt some of the elements they used for their soulknife into my own, however.. I don't think so. They're quite different, though they obviously have some things in common as well. Apart from the archetype differences, the chassis they are built into are also very different with the kensai being a martial class and the mystic being a caster. The Phantom Knife feature they made is just awesome, however. I sorta wish I had though of that :) I think I wouldn't consider adapting UA soulknife stuff into my own, unless the community here had some cool ideas on how to go about it, or if there was a clear demand for it. For now though, I'm content with letting them be two different interpretations of the same source material.

This is cool and all. I've downloaded this, and would like to purchase the main document after seeing this. But I am waiting until the updates to purchase it. The typos I hear about turn me off some. On that note, Mental Rebout as a typoe it in, with a 'there; that should be a 'the'. Once these are updated, I will toss money at the Heroes of the Orient book.
Marc A Mar 8, 2017 12:20 am Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Hi Thony, First of all, thank you very much for showing interest in my titles! Most typos have been eliminated with three major updates to HotO:Player's and DM's Companion over the past six months. 1.4 which is done "soon" also catches a few typos. HotO: Unearthed Kensai is getting a 1.1 soon as well. If you find any more typos, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Thony D Mar 9, 2017 6:04 am Asia/Jakarta PURCHASER
Ahhh, good to know. Once it's in that 1.1 and 1.4 phase are done, I will be purchasing, I believe.
Robert C Feb 10, 2017 4:49 am Asia/Jakarta PURCHASER
Why does the Spellfire Incanter have so little to start with? Al they get is Spellfire Blade which is neat but doesn't really do much. All the other Kensai archetypes seem to get a couple of abilities (Fighting Style and something). Just curious.
Marc A Feb 10, 2017 2:36 pm Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Hi Robert, A good question. I believe my initial goal was just to differentiate between them, but I don't have anything about it written in my notes. In the next update, the spellfire incanter will gain the dueling fighting style and the zerth elocator will gain proficiency with martial weapons.
Chris F Dec 13, 2016 1:56 am Asia/Jakarta PURCHASER
I've already purchased heroes of the Orient. Is this an additional supplement like Wizard's UA's or just an excerpt?
Marc A Dec 13, 2016 2:25 am Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
This is new material you won't find in Heroes of the Orient: Player's and DM's Companion. It contains three new archetypes for the kensai class and some new maneuvers for those archetypes.

Does the Zerth Elocater's Precognition ability have to be used used before the roll is made?
Nov 29, 2016 9:36 am Asia/Jakarta PURCHASER
Also, is the Scorn Earth ability supposed to be unlimited?
Marc A Nov 29, 2016 1:54 pm Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
Precognition is intended to be usable after a roll. Scorn Earth is indeed intended to be unlimited.

Does the Spellfire Blade replace the damage of the weapon?
Marc A Nov 29, 2016 6:32 am Asia/Jakarta CREATOR
That is the intention, yes.
