Upper School News Good News Our Upper School students have partnered with the Norfolk Lower School third grade in their expeditionary learning of bees. Students in our Makerspace class, led by Mrs. Monhollon, interviewed the younger students, where they showed off their new knowledge of Anthophila (bees) and helped draw different anatomical sections of the bee. The Makerspace students then took the drawings back to our Makerspace lab and rendered 3-D versions, teaching the younger ones about this process along the way. The “parts” of the bee created in the lab were offered to younger students when produced and all worked together to assemble the anatomy of the bee. It was another great way to build mentor relationships between our older and younger students and a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved! Exam Schedule The exam schedule was emailed on 12/14. Please notice that the study time before exams is not optional this year. Students must be in the exam room by 8:00 am for morning exams and 11:25 am for afternoon exams. All of NCS will dismiss at 2:00 pm from 1/16/18 to 1/19/18. Middle School Thank You Last week, on Wednesday evening, middle school families received a last minute plea to help the Salvation Army with adopting 100 Angel Tree tags that were returned unfilled. What happened as a result of that email was nothing short of a tiny Christmas miracle that came straight from the hearts of all of you. Donations poured in the next morning, and in less than 2 days our middle school alone raised nearly $3000 to help those in need. When we went to the Salvation Army to pick up the tags, only 25 were left. We completed the Salvation Army’s mission to have a gift for every child listed. After school on Friday, 10 NCS students shopped together to make sure that kids in need could feel God's blessing on Christmas morning. In addition, with the additional funds, we purchased stocking stuffers for many kids in need. We sincerely thank you. Your generosity and willingness to help those in need is humbling, and you are showing your children first hand what it truly means to be His Ambassadors. May God's blessings continue to shine upon your families during this Christmas season. Ambassador Store Christmas Shopping Hours Special Christmas shopping hours: Open Friday, December 15 from 10am-5pm. New ceramic coffee mug gift pack with honey, coffee or tea is a perfect winter gift for a teacher or family member. Purple & gold sports socks are great stocking stuffers. Or just make it a gift certificate. Call 757-233-8448 to shop by appointment between December 18-22. End of Year Charitable Giving The Advancement Office is available over the break to help with year-end charitable gifts. Contact Advancement Director Rick Nikkel at 757-233-8448 or [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]). Make a gift online at any time using this link (https://www.norfolkchristian.org/advancement/donation). Nicaragua Clothing Drive When we return from Christmas break, we will be collecting clothes to take to Nicaragua with us this summer. Please keep this in mind if you are planning to clean out your closets over the break. We can use summer clothes and long sleeve shirts and pants but not heavy winter garments such as sweatshirts and coats. Keep an eye out for the upcoming dates of our clothing drive. Seasons Greetings Norfolk Christian Schools wishes all of you a wonderful Christmas holiday full of family, fun, and worship of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Community Service Community Service is defined as a volunteer service for which a student meets the needs of another person, group, or organization outside of the student’s family. The student volunteer should not receive monetary payment or academic school credit for this service. NCS requires 20 hours of Community Service each school year from each high school student. Service hours may be applied to four categories: meeting the needs of a church, our school, a mission trip, or others. Hours must be documented with the form at the left under High School Policies.
