Assemble your identifying documents: proof of U.S. citizenship and valid identification. To prove your citizenship, provide a previously issued U.S. passport that is less than 15 years old or a certified copy of your birth certificate. Your driver's license or other government-issued ID card will serve as proof of identification, and adults with valid identification can verbally identify children under age 16.
Visit the Clerk-Recorder Department at the Orange County Passport Services Office to purchase two identical photos of yourself that meet U.S. passport requirements. Avoid wearing obstructive clothing or accessories the day of your photo.

If you wish to renew your passport, rather than obtain a new one, do so by mail if the passport is less than 15 years old and you were 16 years or older when you obtained it. You must send your renewal application, along with your passport, two identical pictures and your renewal fee to National Passport Processing, P.O. Box 13349, Philadelphia, PA 19101-3349. Print a passport application form DS-11 from the website of the U.S. Department of State. Either complete the form online, or print the application and complete it by hand. Print the application using black printer ink and one-sided sheets only.
Passport processing can take between four and six weeks. If you expect to leave the country prior to that time, you must request an expedited processing time and include an additional $60 with your processing fee. You can expect an expedited passport within three to four weeks.
