Introduction : The Human Body is a complex system whose parts all work together to keep the body healthy. You are going to learn how the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems work together to provide the body the fuel and energy needed to learn new things, play basketball and soccer, walk, talk, and do all the things necessary to live. Tasks : You are going to research three different body systems: 1. The Circulatory System 2. The Respiratory System 3. The Digestive System You will use the information that you learn during your research to create 3 different FLOWCHARTS . Reference materials are provided for your use in the classroom. Internet resources are posted on this page. You may use drawing paper & map pencils or Inspiration to make the flowchart. You will find specific instructions for each flow chart below.
You will also explain how the three systems work together. You may write a brief paragraph or draw or make a graphic organizer for your explanation.

THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM Flowchart - show the pathway of an apple from the time it enters the body to the time it leaves the body. Include the accessory digestive organs - those organs that food does not actually pass through, but are part of digestion nonetheless. Identify the function of each part of the system as part of the flowchart. Resources for Researching the Digestive System: You may use Science textbook, encyclopedias, other reference books or the Internet with information you need. Good links for each body system are provided in each section. Part 2 - show the pathway of a molecule of CO 2 from the time it is given off by a body cell during cellular respiration until the time it leaves the body. Identify the function of each part of the system as part of the flowchart. Resources for Researching the Respiratory System: You may use Science textbook, encyclopedias, other reference books or the Internet with information you need. Part 2 - show the pathway of the drop of blood from the time it picks up O 2 in the alveoli until it is used by a body cell. Identify the function of each part of the system as part of the flowchart. Resources for Researching the Circulatory System: You may use Science textbook, encyclopedias, other reference books or the Internet with information you need. Final Task : Write an explanation of how the systems work together. How do the digestive system and respiratory system work together? How do the digestive system and circulatory system work together? How do the respiratory system and circulatory system work together? Return to top
